A. General Rules

1.

Above all, this is a game – have fun and don't take things too personally. Positivity is +EV!

2.

Keep in mind that there are rules with higher authority than mine, and those are the site rules. Be sure to follow them as well.

3.

As a corollary to the above, I remind you to not discuss events in other ongoing games in this one, and not to use replacements, infractions/bans, or concessions as ammo to manipulate the game. All of this holds true even on any outside communication this particular setup may allow.

4

. As fabulous as being an alien foxcat thing is, I’m as prone to making mistakes as any human. If you believe I have made an error in moderation, feel free to send me a PM and tell me what you think is wrong. Some mistakes are minor and can be corrected, but other mistakes may not be correctable. These will stand as final to be discussed at the end of the game.

5.

Be courteous to your fellow players. This is just a game, and any blatant personal attacks on another player will not be tolerated. Remember that everyone just wants to have fun!

6.

Once you are dead, you are

dead

. No posting in the topic after you are dead. This means no bah posts, as much as I want to have fun at your expense by forcing you to write bizarre ones.

B. The Day Phase

1

. Days in this game shall use

Player-Pool-Dependent Deadlines.

All votes shall be submitted by surrounding the name of the player you are voting for in vote tags

, e.g VOTE: Kaiveran. You may also vote No Lynch in the same way, (e.g VOTE: No Lynch). Using abbreviations of names is acceptable, but I must be able to tell who you are voting for. If it’s not clear, I will not count it.

3.

I may allow votes to be made using formatting that mimics vote tags closely, if for some reason you find yourself unable or unwilling to use it. But the best way to get me to count your vote is to use the tags, really.

4.

Use unvote tags (like UNVOTE: ) to retract your vote. You do not need to unvote for a vote change to be counted, or specify the player you are unvoting – simply unvote and change votes at your discretion.

An instant lynch will occur

if and only if

an absolute majority (>50%) of all votes are in for a given candidate.

6.

At a deadline, lynch can occur with a lower number of votes, defined as

at least

25% of all votes. If there is not a majority by the deadline, then the person with the highest number of votes above the quota will be lynched and night will begin. In the case of a tie vote above the quota, one of the candidates will be selected at random to be lynched. If no person has a number of votes at or above the quota, there will be no lynch.

7.

The day ends either at a deadline or when I say it does. If a (no-)lynch technically occurs, all alive players including the lynchee may converse until I lock the thread and confirm the lynch (or lack thereof).

C. The Night Phase

1.

All nights will have a deadline of 72 hours,

unless

all living players

PM me their assent to end Night early

. In any case, all active power roles must send me a PM with their choices during this time.

2.

If a night action is not sent in during this time, the action will be forfeit if it is optional, or randomized if it is required (and I

only

treat actions as required if they are specified as such in the setup.)

3.

If I receive multiple night choice PMs from someone, only the latest one will be counted.

language, with no funny business such as invisible, encrypted, coded, or illegibly small text. If you believe you have encountered such a message in a player's post, please point it out to me via PM and I shall handle the situation.

Unless it is explicitly stated in your role PM or this specific setup’s rules/mechanics that you can do so, do not communicate with anyone outside this thread. Even then, only communicate when your role PM states you can.

4.

Do not

ever

quote any communication you have with me, the moderator of the game. In most cases, paraphrasing things I have sent you (such as a role PM) is okay, but under NO circumstance may any information be directly quoted, screenshotted, etc. (Basically, anything that can be construed to

prove

those communications took place.) If you are unsure if something is legal, feel free to ask me via PM. Please note that quoting mod information is considered

cheating,

and is subject to the cheating penalties below.

5.

I reserve modkills for serious or repeat offenders of the rules, and will use my judgment to administer them. Modkills may come with additional punishing conditions, but

only

if the action that led to the modkill is deemed as cheating, which I define as giving a faction unfair advantage over the other. IF AND ONLY IF a player is modkilled for cheating:

• A modkill on Town will end a Day phase, but a Night phase will be allowed to continue.
  
• A modkill on Mafia in a standard game will end a Night phase, but allow a Day phase to continue.
  
• A modkill on a member of one Scumteam in a game with multiple anti-town factions will NOT end the Night, but rather deny that team a factional kill for the night.

Under NO OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES shall a modkill count as a lynch, or any factional kill.

6

. If you pretend or fake breaking any of these rules, it shall carry the same consequences as actually breaking the rules. For example, if you think you can “quote” a Scum PM as town and prove that you are really town by not getting modkilled, then you’re sadly mistaken; you will still be modkilled.

7.

Last but not least,

the mod(s) here possess the only full knowledge of the game and have the only authority to end it

. So for your own good,

please

refrain from revealing possible endgames before they are officially revealed.

What you

think

is happening might not be what is actually happening; if you reveal your team/role/other stuff and the game happens to continue, you may have just screwed over your team, and if you come in after you are dead/replaced and congratulate players on their “win”, you could risk getting banned. So be patient and wait for that sweet rainbow text.

E. Keep It Together!

1.

Activity management starts with you! If everyone focuses on staying active themselves, then they'll be no room to flake! If you will be unable to participate for a period 3 days or longer, please note a V/LA in the thread or PM me saying so, and I will put you down in the VCs/updates. Please note that I reserve the right to force-replace you if I think your absence will disrupt the game at any point. Such replacements will be alignment- and role-agnostic.

2.

If a player has not posted for a certain amount of time, they will receive a prod. This time period shall be either

(rounded to the nearest whole number), where D is the number of real life days within the deadline; whichever is smaller. If the prod is not picked up within the same amount of time, the player will be force-replaced.

3.

You may be prodded a maximum of

Otay, now for balance discussion.

CHANGES I THINK ARE PRETTY OBVIOUS AND NON-NEGOTIABLE:

• The game needs a proper Night 0 phase for confirmation and power choices.
  Also, the number of confirmations shouldn't be publicized until said phase ends. Doing otherwise opens the door for people to angleshoot alignments based on timing, which isn't good; scum are at an inherent disadvantage in such a situation.
  
• There should be mutual knowledge between the Traitor and mainscum.
  This game alone is probably the strongest case for why. There's always gonna be revealing mechanics in a ++ setup, but Traitor/Defector as they stand are way too likely to be a keystone for their team due to the unique associatives they create – making them a liability instead of the help they were intended to be.

CHANGES I'M PRETTY SURE OF:

• A Max Power scumteam should be {RB/RC} + GF-equivalent + Ninja-equivalent instead of current.
  I understand that scum probably need a boost if their side has 0 Ts, but Roleblocker
  and
  Role Cop seems OTT.

THINGS I NEED HELP FIXING:

• The Roleblocker/Role Cop choice doesn't seem to really be a choice; RB wins the day.
  As discussed in the Mafia thread, Roleblocker looks objectively superior, as in a multiball setup not only are you able to nullify claimed roles, but also possibly the opposing kill. This is borne out in offsite runs of this game too; in all the ones I was able to dig up I don't think I ever saw a Role Cop choice. Not sure could replace it to make for a legitimate option, though...my first thought is Watcher, but I'd like to hear your ideas too.
  
• The GF/Ninja equity also looks skewed a little, by the simple fact that C has more numbers than I.
  This could be cheaply "fixed" by making C and I both cover 15, but that would make D cover 20, and it seems a little weird to have protective roles have the greatest chances. If Watcher turns out to be a viable alternative to Role Cop, this could be a non-issue, but again, not sure of that choice.
  
• Inter-Scum Balancing will also have to be tweaked, in a manner that highly depends on the solutions to the above.

I didn't play this game but just wanted to offer setup advice in terms of purely setup advice. This is coming from setup review/hosting/gameplay experience along with past game observations onsite.

1. Some ideas for the above:
-What about an rb+rc hybrid role? This role would be able to rb OR rc the target in 1 night
-What about a multitasking rb+rc role? This role would be able rb AND rc the target in 1 night
-What about x-shot rb or x-shot rc?

2. I do think you have a point in rb being stronger than rc.
3. As for the point of a Watcher, I think it really depends on what the rest of your setup roles are, and what your setup goals are. For instance, would your setup be focused on having wifom with the theme of neighborhoods and pt cops. Or maybe your setup themes are something else, then you would have to brainstorm if a Watcher fits into there.

My setup goals are really nothing extravagant. It's really a sort of "Nearly Normal" setup, with only a couple of roles that don't fit into those rules, just in a multiball ++ format. So the combo roles you suggest kinda don't fit with that. As for Watcher, it's a common enough scum PR, with a similar case of multiple utility as Roleblocker, that I think it would fit nicely.

If you're considering a two-way traitor, maybe just make them another goon because that's basically just a goon who couldn't find the scum pt (I think it's a bit too far outside the range of what a traitor is to be worth being a traitor)

I wouldn't do mutual knowledge. Traitor is one of my favorite roles & I think mutual knowledge changes the role in ways that defeat its purpose. Like, part of what makes traitor an interesting role is that it becomes a liability or help depending on how players approach the game, which puts extra focus on day play.

Yeah, it seems like the baseline play/mechanics of Traitor means it's really not well-suited to my purposes at all. These responses are making me think that

adding an extra Goon to the weaker team, in exchange for making said team White Flag, could be a viable alternative
