I didn't want to have to add this but
I think it's possible the loss and then the 5-year time skip was necessary, yes they could have beaten Thanos then and there but I think by letting a new generation of heroes start to develop they made it so the future was safe. The continuation of this is spoilers for Far From Home so I'll let people respond and if I need to continue I will

Starlord’s writing and that moment was earned character wise and storywise.

Batman vs Superman was just bad writing for that spot.

Flawed characters does not = flawed writing.

This is also a point, you should write your story around your characters, not the reverse, do that and you end up like the last bits of the Game of Thrones show

This is a really weird take that I think makes a lot of assumptions about masculinity and the way it’s tied up in hero narratives

It has nothing to do with gender and/or masculinity dude.
Whatever gender someone is doesn't matter. Have your emotions, just don't let them ruin heroic plans.
When heroes can't control their emotions, people die.

I’m not talking about gender tho, I’m talking specifically about the way that hero narratives get framed. As in, it’s often that the strong, masculine presence is framed as good and part of that is not feeling emotions or letting them guide decisions. And that’s an active choice that is being made in these stories, to frame those emotion based choices as negative.

Why does strength = not being guided by enotion in fiction.

You say it's not about gender but then you talk about masculinity. You can be strong and have strong emotions. Just don't let them sway you so hard that you end up hurting other people. Use your emotional drive to do good things and help the world. Not fuck up killing Thanos.
Having emotions isn't bad. I feel like you keep thinking I'm saying this. People who can't think logically when their emotions rise up and let those emotions cloud their judgment are weak in my opinion. I don't want to see weak heroes OR villains.
Being guided by emotions isn't the same as letting those emotions 100% dictate your decisions.

Really sad DEB survived the night, there literally is no reason to think that slot is town. Gamma is still almost certainly scum. My other scum reads are kinda all over the place right now, though I think my town reads are generally similar. Also have a decent to large project right now so probably won't be posting for a little bit.

ALSO, Star lord being powerful but immature is literally his defining characteristic, like its what the second movie was about. They built the plot around the characters, at least in that instance (Dr.Strange stopped having a character in that film).
