Newbie 1966: Mafia Chat

Hi. I’m the opposite of you. This is is my 2nd ever game, and I’ve been mafia in both of them.

Sounds good. Some things that I learnt from my last game:
Don't put anyone to L-1 in the Early Game without extremely good reasons. I did this, and people were suspicious of me the entire game - read the dead chat.
Don't scum read everyone - it may seem counter-intuitive to say some people are town, but this is a good idea. It makes you seem like town, and you can always kill them in the night later.
Read every post - in my last game, me, being in a idiot, somehow didn't read the post in which someone claimed tracker. As a result, I didn't kill them in the night, allowing them to confirm two others as town. This was extremely unhelpful, as there weren't many players left.
We don't have to town read each other - we can scumread each other, and sometimes we may have to if one of us messes up. What we should do if that happens is try to provide an argument for why we should vote someone else instead anyway.

Nothing else comes to mind at the moment, but I hope this is a little help.

My only idea is about Jocus Avornum. In the last game, he was aggressive the entire time, despite being town. We could mention his aggressiveness and scumread him for it (assuming he does the same thing). However, he does now have a meta, which may just make us seem suspicious, especially since I did it last game.

Yeah, sorry. I just saw the sample PMs. It is interesting about the double mason setup though. I suppose that even thought the mafia can’t roleblock them, masons can’t do anything during the night either. They have a large disadvantage, knowing the alignment of only one other player, and not having anyway to obtain more information. The mafia, however, know everybody’s alignments.
An interesting scenario.

Yes, I think that should work well. If he plays like last game, the town won’t like him. He’ll vote people without any real justifications. I mean, he was right about me, but that’s not the point. I don’t think we should specifically keep his scumreads alive though, it sounds too suspicious.

Do you think? I’ve only used a computer for mafia scum once. That’s why I don’t have a profile picture (I’ll try to get one soon Thespio).

Btw, try not to defend people, at least this early in the game. I know you know everybody’s alignment, but nobody else does, and you don’t have any particularly good reasons to “suspect” Jake is town. It should be fine this once though.

I know I said don’t put anyone to L-1 in the early game, but I think this time should be fine. There are lots of reasons to think Jake is scum, and I think I gave a nice argument for why I voted him and not you. This may cause a wagon to start on me though,

I agree you should definitely roleblock ETL. Also, I think Moonchild is the right target. She had the post about how she thought she should be looking for PRs, and I think her inexperience would have made her focus on finding mafia, but because she was the doctor, she would be looking for people to defend.
We are in a great position here.

I mean, I could probably still win unless I was investigated, but that isn’t as dramatic.

No, it’s not your fault. I was fully expecting either Dunstraal or Menalque to be lynched. If there was a way to lynch me, that would be better, for I can’t rolecop. But alas, it does appear you will fall. I hope you enjoyed the little that was your first scum game.

But remember - you’re not dead yet. You still have time to sow discontent, to confuse and backstab, to go out in one final explosion. So remember, Yimmy - the game isn’t over until you finish it.

I don’t think we roleblock Dunstraal though. I’m not convinced he’s the doctor. I think we should keep with the original plan of roleblocking ETL (I think it was him who claimed cop), and kill either Dunstraal or Arkias.

So, Jake was vanilla, as we suspected. However, I still don’t think we should attempt to kill ETL. Let’s look at the options:

Roleblocking ETL and killing the suspected doctor:

We definitely kill someone, and prevent ETL using his ability. In addition, the doctor may or may not be eliminated. If he

is

eliminated, we can kill ETL tomorrow night, otherwise we can try kill the doctor again.

Roleblocking the suspected doctor and killing ETL:

If we roleblock the incorrect doctor, ETL isn’t killed because the doctor will have protected him, making it a waste of a night kill. In addition, ETL is able to use his night ability.

Conclusion:

The better option is to kill the suspected doctor and roleblock ETL.

Therefore, I suggest you (Yimmy) begin by Roleblocking ETL. Then, we should discuss who we think the doctor is. We have 48 hours, so we have time to do this.

No, I still think we should take the safe route. I think it was quite obvious Dunstraal was fakeclaiming. Look at how he quotes him being asked to say it before hand. He gets asked to say he’s doctor, and he

just happens

to be the one with doctor? I don’t think so. The Safeway route is definitely to kill Dunstraal or Arkias and roleblock ETL.

Another reason Dunstraal may have lied about being cop and not been cc’ed: who’s going to counter-claim Doctor? It’s basically saying, “no, don’t kill Dunn! Kill me instead!”. It’s better for the doctor to stay hidden, confusing the mafia.

I’ll change it in the morning if you convince me. I’m still not convinced Dunstraal is the doctor, and even if he was, it makes more sense to kill Dunstraal than ETL.

Yeah, it’s an even worse idea if you do it. You have the roleblock ability. Claim VT, and then perhaps comment on how RC and Menalque seemed to be allied from the start, and how Menalque said RC would have been NKed if he was mafia. But what if they’re both mafia, and that’s why they seem to agree so much?
