@all where were you going when you had to explain mafia
I was going home from Colombia to the UK, but my flight stopped in Miami and because of stupid airport rules you can't transfer through, you have to leave and then go back in passing through security a second time
got "randomly" selected for further screening and I had a copy of Avalon in my luggage that the agent asked me about. I tried to explain but she didn't really get it so I went into greater length about mafia and informed minority/uninformed majority games as a genre

xyzzy and I were driving through the Canada-U.S. border at Lewiston, New York, and the agent asked us how we met each other (online), where online we met each other (gaming forum), and what kind of gaming (uhh). There was a moment where I definitely debated whether or not to explain with the Mafia theme, which would sound sketchy to someone who might not have had that experience in summer camp, or with the Werewolves theme, which was safer but also the inferior theme. We ended up explaining Werewolves using the uninformed majority/informed minority angle. Agent asked more questions about how long we knew each other and the people we were meeting, and we were sent on our way.
I was coming back from China visiting my sister and I brought home a werewolf game. It had some unique and slightly sketchy art and I could tell he was confused so I quickly explained the game.

Across the border to Juárez. They were suspicious with the drug war going on over there and all, so I had to explain it was a party game I was bringing to a friend's house and I wasn't planning on killing people in real life
what's up fam. this was a risky nice because I've only made like... approximately half of one post on site in the last couple months (listen, life gets in the way of posting on forums sometimes), but lucky for you, I got those email notifications for PMs turned on. anyway, this one is easy: I'll just outright confirm that
Equinox had to explain Mafia to a border control agent.
if memory serves, it was Mina who proposed just calling it Werewolf in the discord server. as for the other four questions... honestly, your guess is as good as mine.
