?QUESTIONS? (for noobs)
This is just an idea. If you have any questions about mafia, post them here and experienced players will hopefully check this and answer them.Last edited by bunsofsteel on Sun Oct 05, 2003 2:14 pm, edited 2 times in total.like a fat kid on cake.

lolQuailman wrote:I'm a cop in Mini Mafia 58. I just found a Mafia, but it's only day two, so I don't know if I should announce it. What do you think?
I say, stop posting things like that outside the thread, because eventough it's a joke, it's still againts the rules.
Next time make it "I am a cop in mini 123" or something along those lines
now for my question:
wat is better for a normal mini, I 3 person mafia or 2 2 person mafia?-

1 3, because with four evil and two killing groups, there's the possibility of a bizarre situation like what almost happened in Mini 28, where the town knew enough about evil to lynch one a day and such but still couldn't win (Because the evil never killed each other, no kills were blocked by the doctors, and the vigi died Night 1).-

IMHO, having more than one Mafia family in a mini is too much. Having more than one killing party at all is likely to be too much unless you give the Town some pretty powerful roles. For example, in Asylum Mafia I had a 3-man Mafia with a GF, a SK with a kill restriction, and 8 pro-Town roles. 5 of the 8 had useful Night abilities, and 3 were just Townies with posting restrictions (to make it interesting for them and to give people something to speculate on). Hindsight tells me that, even with the powerful Town roles, the scum had a distinct advantage, and it's no surprise that they won (the GF was the last man standing in a 3-player endgame). This in no way takes anything away from the job the Scum did playing the game, of course (all three played very well), but the setup gave them an advantage.
Another great example is the Test Game run by Antrax on the test board. The endgame was two scum from two different groups and a Townie who couldn't win. Antrax is a great mod, but I don't think that game was balanced at all. *shrug* YMMV, of course.
Anyway, the point of all that is that I don't believe it's ever a good idea to have more than 25% scum in a game, and certainly not 33% (as 4 scum would be).
I'm currently modding two games ("Rumours" and "Shrek Mafia), and when they're done I'll be happy to send out the Excel spreadsheet detailing the setups, if anyone's interested.The point of the journey is not to arrive...-

Well, as much aversion as there is to random roles, I still feel they have a place in the game, and I could see this being a good time for one.
Maybe they have a list of things they can try to invent each nigt:
Advanced medical equipment for docs, fingerprint analysis for cops, better firearms for vigilantes, etc.
and each of these, if they succeed (i.e. if they roll high enough on a dice or something), will increase the potency of someone else in the game. For example, if the inventor succeeds in inventing advanced medical equipment, the doc could prtect two people each night.
Or maybe the inventor could use the inventions himself.

i thought of a name for that one, eventhough it has been invented already:mole wrote: The ability to send information to other players on one night? (HUGE boon to the town, need to restrict it heavily)
telegraph. but the person that uses it has to pay for it, and can only afford, lets say, 50 characters.-

That sounds kind of fun, but I think much less would be much better. Say 5 characters or something...where a character is anything you can get on the keyboard through PM. That allows for the possibility of hilarious miscommunications.
Inventor to Player A: PBISK
Player A thinks to himslef, ahhh...PolarBoy's The Serial Killer.
Inventor thinks to himself, ahhh...I finally got it off my chest that Penguins Be In Serious Kaniptions.
Hilarity ensues.

I like the 5-character idea much better... I mean, what good is it limiting it to 20? You can write "Stewie mafia" and still have 8 characters left over. STWMF is much more fun. The most I'd make it would be 7.Anyhoo, why is it suspicious that I get confused with a mattress?

A variable that would be quite interesting is that the message has a bigger limit, but has to be in morse code, so if the limit is 21 characters, the person has to write
-. -. --.- .. -. -. --
I don't know what that was, but something along those lines. Or to make it easier on people that don't know morse code and making the ability more fair, you could have letter values, like in one of those crossword games, but backwards, so the most commonlt used letters have a higher value, and the player has a limited total letter value. Also, you can have restricted letters, or letter comvinations, so people can't say things like
STW=SK
Because "W" and "SK" are restricted. The player will then have to write:
ST=SEK
but whoever recieves the message will have a hard time figuring out what SEK means-

So wait, SK would be worth more points than SEK? Either you're mistaken or the system you're imagining is entirely too complicated.MUNSCM Delegate for the United Kingdom

no, SK would be completly restricted, so 'SK' can't be in the message. the player sending the message has to choose other ways of saying what s/he is trying to say without using the restricted letter or letter convinations.PolarBoy wrote:So wait, SK would be worth more points than SEK?
