He bent over his back trying to explain how lynching Jake was the optimal play, but it was a mechanical 1v1. You could take his post and replace "Jake" with jjh and the same arguments would apply.
His intent was to clearly buy a little more time. There's the appeal to jjh to play townier as well.

Perhaps, but would scum be that obvious at defending their buddy?

Definitely. Hard defenders of scum should generally be lynched; otherwise you give scum leeway to protect their buddies.
