Actually I’m kind of warming up to the idea that “supersonics” is maybe just meant to represent
a
sports team as opposed to a particular sport, and that eagle might be our word (referring to the Eagles).
I also want to bring back xofelf’s suggestion of March for March Madness, I think it has potential.
Again, phoenix is not the actual name of a team so I still don’t think it’s phoenix. It’d be equivalent to saying “it must be Berlin because Berlin has a basketball team.”
Supersonics: old name of an NBA team.
EAGLEs: current name of an NFL team.
Bit on the shaky side, but honestly no shakier than any of the other basketball clues. They at least share "sports team name" as a common link; common links are always a good way to clue.
MARCH is too far out, I think. That goes from "Former NBA team name" to "current NCAA tournament reference."
Were they NBA? For some reason I thought they were NCAA. I take back the suggestion of March then. I really don't know.

This also is probably a stretch, but I just thought that maybe sonic also refers to the hedgehog, who’s known for being fast and whose games are about running. So maybe “lap”?
If HEDGEHOG were on the board, I might be willing to go with it. Or TAIL(s), maybe. But it'd have to be a pretty direct connection to Sonic. Ignoring both the Super and the plural is risky for stretches.
Supersonics -> Sonic the Hedgehog -> runs fast -> other people who run fast run laps? Sonic's fast, but I don't think he does much track and field.
Thinking about things from a meta perspective. We got a 2 clue when our opponents are ahead 2-4, and both connections were pretty obvious. Best case for this round is 5-4 us, with opponents in control. Given that world, does our codemaster give us a 2 clue if we were totally wrong about all of our #3 picks? Especially given that our codemaster was totally willing to open things with a 4.
I think it’s more likely to be a basketball word than a sports team word so I’m also more comfortable with board. Let’s see where that puts us and we can always guess Eagle after (it’d be next round, anyway).
Knowing how Haschel gives clues, I feel like he'd have given a larger clue if we hadn't said words he was aiming for with his first, and that at worst maybe we'd hit neutral, but certainly not assassin.
I'm fine to roll the dice on board.

Hmmm, I don't think it's eagle as it is without as s.
Not sonic either because that would be cheating giving clues with one-half of a word. (I think we can't give clues like cat-dog and hint both cat and dog)
And if we don't want pheonix,
I am thinking BOARD?
