Both of those are also definitions of "wake", or at least in the same general category.

This is why Codenames is such an awesome game; there are so many ways to interpret things.

Okay so I know we're not really getting anywhere with this but personally I'm not happy to make the guess here because I know nothing about the clue

I don't feel like it's phoenix because there could've been other clues used to get phoenix and whale and eagle all together (like saying animal, chances are we'd put those 3 above spider)

But yeah if anyone else wants to make a guess then be my guest

Germany was the bomb.

I thought about flight clues, but I knew I had to find a way to link Boom to our other words in way that didn't risk setting off Germany- I thought about something like ARTILLERY to hit Boom/Cover/March, but the World War connection was too big a risk. Other clues about the sky could have roped in telescope, but then Skyscraper was in the way. In the end I had to hope that somebody would get "Has a team in the same league as the Supersonics / Is a sports team like the Supersonics" for Phoenix and Eagle.

Mortar and Rockets have the same problem, I think. Grenade ... no. Dynamite hits Cover, but not March ...

Explosion hits Boom and Phoenix ... maybe Jet if we're feeling morbid, but possibly also Skyscraper and Force.

Maybe Fire 4? Backfire, covering fire / taking cover when under fire, Phoenix is obvious ... Boom's not too much of a stretch for that. Skyscraper's the only risk I can think of for that one?
