I'm starting on judging officially. There's still 18 minutes, but I'd like to finish this round as quickly as I can. :)

Okay before I announce results. I just want to say that you ALL blew me away this round. Like wow there's just so much talent MS has that it fills my heart. I'm in awe and so inspired by all of you. Thank you all for putting your efforts and energies into participating in this contest.

Unfortunately, one person did not submit this round, and as such is being automatically eliminated. I do wish this person the best and think they are awesome and am very sad to see them go because I like to challenge myself and others to constantly be better on a daily basis, but unfortunately I think this round just got to everyone a bit.

That means everyone who submitted is moving on to Round 3!!! Congratulations to all.

The winner this round was very difficult to pick as there were many phenomenal entries and it came down to the slimmest of margins to decide who I thought won it. If I could give out co-winners this round, honestly? I probably would because two performances just blew me away. But I have to go with what I heard and what I know, so there was one performance I thought that was just...free of all flaws.

Congratulations to
toolenduso
on winning this round.

Here are the full results:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

So the winner now has 24 hours to choose the next theme for Round 3. A reminder the following theme options remain:

-Music in Animation
-Eurovision
-Gender Bender (Sing a song by someone of a gender you do not identify with, please see me if you have concerns/questions about this)
-70s
-Non-Animated Movie Hits
-Country

Good luck with your choice and feel free to post it publicly or privately.

I just want to re-iterate that honestly you all slayed this round and it was incredibly difficult to judge. Can't wait to see what you all come up with next. Tentatively the deadline for the next round will be Friday at 4pm PDT/7pm EDT.

ahhhh thank you so much!

I actually just saw Hamilton for the first time recently so I had to spend most of the submission period just learning the song, but I'm happy I picked it because, well, it's super fun, and also as it happens it's like perfectly within my range. I was definitely trying to channel Jonathan Groff, but I discovered during recording that it's very hard for me to scrub the emo inflections from my voice.

I'm excited to hear everyone's entries!

Uhhhhhhh I'm torn between a couple categories let me think about it

Congratulations to toolenduso! Listening to these now, and holy shit, the competition is steep. You guys did an amazing job.

Malkon, the shakiness in the middle is where you can tell the lack of oxygen was starting to catch up with me and I was holding on for dear life. Maybe trying to do Angelica, Eliza,
and
Alexander at the same was a bit over-ambitious. :D

Definitely glad I didn't also go Hamilton because the two Hamilton songs here nailed it.

Mina, satisfied is the other jam of my heart but I could not make three people work!

Also, safer is From first date, which is musical over the course of one date/evening. And everyone should listen to 'dogfight' the musical.

Glad we didn't accidentally double up! We probably could have just done Angelica's parts and left in a lot of awkward silences (or found a karaoke track with the other voices in there), but where's the fun in that? It's not like I need to breathe to live or anything!

Yeah, I thought that that was against the 'noone else sing with you' rule - Malkon, what would've been your judgement?

I mean I was low-key waiting for four 'on my owns' from Les mis ;) we'll listen to everything tomorrow, I'm excited for satisfied! It really fits my 'doing the right thing but it doesn't mean I'm happy about it' jam.

I actually made trial recordings of on my own, satisfied, and music of the night! lol

mina and tool both captured their characters really well, I think. I'm not super familiar with some of the other musicals so I couldn't say on those. let me know if anyone wants specific feedback from me - this is probably the one category I'd feel comfortable talking about

Ahaha I have one of 'tell me on a Sunday' with no backing track..maybe I should record satisfied and we should all share it all for Lols...
I'm taking it as a sign of personal growth that 'on my own' doesn't speak to me in the same way it did when I was 16!

just finished listening to everyone's and I'm super impressed by all your recordings!

also in hindsight, I think Hello from Book of Mormon would have been a perfect Haschel song

I mean for me the intent of this contest is to hear your own voice solo.

I suppose I could accept a duet from two people who are participating in this contest at some point and then just judge you individually, I just feel in a duet you get fewer moments to stand out and let me fairly judge what you can actually do.

I'd probably prefer the alternative of doing multiple recorded layers such as what Haschel does since I know it's his voice on each layer.

I had a couple of Dear Evan Hansen songs in contention Malkon, but there were one or two notes in each of them that I couldn't hit consistently. I decided I'd rather be Safer than sorry. :P
Excited to listen to things tomorrow. Congrats toolenduso!

On My Own was my go-to audition song (along with I Dreamed a Dream--cliched, I know!) for over a decade, but luckily I grew out of it in time for me not to subject you to it. (I "considered" singing Defying Gravity in that it crossed my mind and I immediately went, "lmao NO.")

Why don't we just make a bonus round in which everyone sings "Satisfied"?

And if people are offering specific notes, I'd be interested in feedback on the technical side. My entire shtick as a singer is having a good tone but no technique.
