Places where animals would be feels like too much of a stretch when there's two very obvious ones and a third closely enough related. I feel like AIR fare and TRAIN fare are pretty obvious. Other than that a fare is something that can be CHECKed, maybe also CAPped? I'm having a bit of difficulty in that I keep thinking of 'fair' words which I know isn't valid - but it's NM and rules are more like guidelines anyway?

Definitely agreed on AIR and TRAIN. I'd put TRAIN slightly above AIR, but wouldn't argue against going the other direction. I don't see anything else that really screams out "PICK ME!" right now.
CHECK is a bit of a stretch, but it's one I'd thought of as well. CAP is also a stretch, and one I did not think of.
HOTEL is another stretch - at least as a place of business that takes money.
Do ski lifts normally charge fares? If so, ALPS comes into play (as a stretch).
I think use of a ski-lift is based on having a ski pass to get on the slopes in the first place, but I have no personal experience.
My really out there one itching my brain is TIME fare, but I'm not sure if it's a phrase I've heard once and forgotten, my brain getting confused with time share, or just something that sounds like it could be right to me that I've never actually come across. Definitely not one I'd want to go with over anything else
Yeah, AIR and TRAIN I agree on. I have the opposite preference from Farren's order, but I don't mind using his order, too. Of the stretches proposed so far, I'm most in favor of HOTEL, though I swear the amount of money you're charged for a stay has a different term. If we were looking for any "fair" words, I'd expect Not_Mafia to use that spelling and not make us rely on homophones, but if he does expect us to consider homophones, then STATE comes to mind. Not hot on anything else right now, unfortunately
