The evolution of our modern digit 6 appears rather simple when compared with the other digits. The modern 6 can be traced back to the Brahmi numerals of India, which are first known from the Edicts of Ashoka circa 250 BCE.[26][27][28][29] It was written in one stroke like a cursive lowercase e rotated 90 degrees clockwise. Gradually, the upper part of the stroke (above the central squiggle) became more curved, while the lower part of the stroke (below the central squiggle) became straighter. I'm happy to talk about the setup design for this one (or the other) if people want. It basically started with the announcing roles, with the idea being that all of those roles give interesting info to the person being targeted regardless of whether they're town or scum (e.g. Hopkirk and Oka getting targeted by the neapolitan told them both that they needed to fakeclaim real roles).

The announcing vanilla cop was not intended to be negative utility. Announcing, as I see it, isn't really negative utility in isolation, at least; you're informing someone that a role exists, but that's not a super exploitable piece of information. If you hit scum then you're telling them what they need to claim but that's not

negative utility

, it just means that you're forcing something they might not have wanted to do.

Part of the point of the role in this setup was to potentially synergize with the neapolitan; if the neap gets a not-a-VT result and the vanilla cop gets a vanilla result, then the scum is put in a nothing-i-can-claim-saves-me situation, though this would only work on the two goons.

I think the scumteam did a few things that were very impressive in this game. First off was pulling off the fakeclaim obviously; it kind of makes sense in the setup with symmetry with the announcing neapolitan being gated, the issue from a design perspective being that vanilla cop doesn't really need to be gated in that way. Hopkirk managing to find a fake breadcrumb out of whole cloth and present it believably was impressive. Second was associatives; I feel like scum did an unusually good job making associatives really muddy. I definitely don't envy luca or bell having to replace in with the context of the first game, though obviously as I said I am very grateful to both of them.

By "between" you mean what was the idea of this one compared to the last one? It was basically an entirely different setup if so. The idea of the first one was large number of info roles that can maybe piece together something useful if they combine knowledge but with some of them belonging to scum.

The first setup had more iterations, this one I came up shortly after the first game got cancelled and it only needed like two changes (the neapolitan was originally ungated and the mafia activated bulletproof was originally some kind of mailman).

The first setup was actually originally conceived as a mini when I thought I'd be moderating a mini normal and changed to a large at some point, and the visitor was originally part of that mini. I'm not sure if I'm gonna release that thread but here's at least a tidbit from it where I'm talking about the compulsive visitor:

Would have the effect of making the town roles more potentially useful, adding in more play around claiming and counterclaiming, giving scum a modicum of negative utility over not being able to pick their killer fully the first couple nights, and giving scum a bit of ability to speculate about the setup or try to pull off a coordinated fakeclaim with the tracker if they're feeling spicy.
