Pretty sure this is supposed to be directly up your alley.
In post 44, Vulture wrote:Is it better for scum to have two people in the coalition or one in and one out? I can see sides of both but depending on what scum are good at as scum it might not mean a lot to talk this out.
It is better for scum to have exactly one person in the Coalition. It improves the chance of a sweep; after the first scum vote the paths are equivalent.
Mechanics in this game are pretty straightforward and not worth lingering on imo.

Yes, we vote in a (wrong) coalition. The only other strategy worth discussing is voting outside of it in the ~hopes~ that we hit scum outside and clear everyone else outside. This is not a good idea at all.
I am again confused where you are going with this and would ask for a concrete starting suggestion for any sort of setup breakage.

I wasn't a fan of Cheeky's posting but she's trying to put out content. I contrast that to Vulture, who instead of giving hasty alignment speculation lingered aimlessly on mechanics.
I already have this hydra as a townlean though, not because of Cheeky but because of Gamma.
Gamma has been tilted out of his mind lately by people not efforting as scum/a rapidfire town getting ahead early. He's learned to play significantly faster paced accordingly in order to avoid this. Here he was content to pop in and leave it to Cheeky; in contrast scumGamma has been of this bizarre mindset that he's the one carrying every game even when he gets flipped Day 1/2 like clockwork.

I don't really have a read on Vulture, curious as to why Implosion has them as town (I don't think GL's reasoning there is bad, it's an interesting mistake)

In post 89, implosion wrote:My logic on VultureTown is basically the earnestness with which they seem interested in reasoning out the bet way to do setup things. In particular the second line of 61 feels like something scum who wants to be in the coalition would be reticent to say. I don't really mind the setup spec for its own sake particularly since they dropped it now.
I think this is so straightforward to fake, in contrast to GuiltyLion, and I already want to dayvig you for it.
"earnestness in reasoning out the setup" is awful.

Implosion's read is literally "they seem nice enough talking about mech" when I strongly, STRONGLY doubt that is something he's learned to put as a +town behavior playing since 2012.
Iverson wrote:Implosion is oldschool and sees scum focus on mech like clockwork and he should be shot on sight.
This is, not true? I generally don't consider almost anything like "focusing on mech" to be alignment-indicative outside of context, and I think the context of the tone in which Vulture did it is townish.
Scum might focus on mechanics sometimes but it was page three and and Vulture had already said they were going to drop it at that point.

This is a drastic mischaracterization. In fact I pointed out the second line of 61 which is specifically not being like, especially "nice". The "scorched earth" rhetoric is something I think scum would be reticent to say because scum naturally will want to get into the coalition (so as to not automatically lose) and would probably have an instinct to not want to literally burn it down afterward.
This is a lot of words to say "it's the way they discussed mech", ie. tonal, with the only concrete thing to point to (voting in a false coalition) relaying the most blatant optimal play as though the slot is inhabited by a 3rd grader.
Bonus: Why do you think my read will flip? You have never played with me as town, and I tunneled you both games I was scum across multiple days (Once you were my partner, once you were town)

In post 122, The Coalition wrote:Gamma's scumgame has actually evolved a lot in the past couple months, what may have caught them in the past won't catch them anymore. But him pointing this out himself in response to a townread on him is something that I wouldn't assign to his scumrange
My point on Gamma actually utilizes the lessons he learned as scum to hypothesize why he wouldn't defer the start. ie. It is utilizing that evolution, not denying it

Tackling your question directly: It isn't much of a commitment on Implosion's part, and the benefit is the basic veneer of scum hunting that is expected of you. I don't put much weight on disagreeing with Shelby factoring in to begin with, and it is often useful to voice opposition early for TvT scenarios.
While I think the weight you put on the Shelby push explains the focus on cost/benefit, I think on a larger scale you are putting way too much stock into scum not giving townreads without immediate concrete reason to do so. Early game they generally are just trying to fit in and hunt like everyone else.

I have outed two townreads-one with extended justification, the other denied it by meta-elsewhere while you townread implosion for not being a potato and tunnel GuiltyLion for incoherent nonsense.
If implosion is town all you have to do is get out of the way.

I'm not Vulture but scum that are so overly aggressive/arrogant are far and few in between on MS. Much more common on places like EM, ex. Players like the banned Transcend
