Thwick looks at the elf and appears to be on the verge of saying something. Before he can do so, though, he notices an opening in the chaos as the dog's attention is divided between Del and Nathaniel. The opportunity is too good to pass up and he fires an arrow into the creature's haunches.
Beyond the fresh carcass of the slain dog is another death dog, but this one appears to have been dead for a while. A whimper draws your attention to a litter of death dog puppies, a dozen heads trying to nurse on the dead carcass in the back.
The elf ignores the thrown scroll and looks at the ground, pained. The poor creature was dead before he could even get a chance to try to help it. For a moment, he is angry with himself for his failure.
Of course, it was probably trying to protect its family and distraught over the loss of its mate. But humans and their ilk do not care for such things, he thinks, the target of his anger changing. He is not surprised that his comrades ignored his request; this only reinforces what he already thought about people.
He steps forward to ensure no harm will come to the puppies. He wonders whether they will survive without their parents. should i roll something to see if i know this?
"Had this happened naturally," he says, at first to no one in particular, "I would say that the fate of the pups is none of my concern, as such is the way of things. But now... I am unsure."
Then he glares at the party. "But I will not allow any of you to hurt them more than you already have. You are more deserving of the name of 'beast' than these creatures."
You know the pups will not survive without their parents.
Del shakes his head. "This beast was attacking caravaners. Even if it was to feed a family, what of the lives lost that this monster took? No, I will not pity it in death."
“I was trying to figure out a way to capture the parent but it was killed too quickly!
That said these puppies will not survive on their own and their bite is as dangerous as any plague all species ever encountered! So even if they survive they will become new threats to our species and the cycle will keep repeating”.
"Humans and the like have left nature too far behind and so become weak and foolish. If they do not know well enough to keep away from lands where they will be hunted by stronger creatures, it is they who are to blame for what they get."
He turns on Cael. "So you would butcher them because you see your species as better than theirs? Are any of us "intelligent" species so special that we deserve to fear no predator or danger? Your societies are a perversion of the natural order."
do I know how death dogs treat the young of other death dogs, and whether death dogs are common anywhere nearby?
Second, I never said we are the better species but between the survival of their species and mine, make no mistake, i will choose mine. I’m not the suicidal type.
But maybe we can do something about to save the doggies while not putting in danger the lives of traders in the future.”
Cael performs a history check on the puppies to find out the rarity of their species and where their natural habitat usually is.

make a nature check
Cael tries to recall information about the death dog but can only note that desert is one of their habitats. There may be more out there in the desert, there may not.
Del: "These things are going to grow up to be monsters that terrorize people! Best we leave them alone to die or put them out of their misery. Or have you no pity for the dead adventurer we found in the other room? Sure goblins were picking at him but there were bitemarks from a dog as well. He's not the only one. If you look around the room, you see bones sticking out half-buried in the ground. Surely you people jest!"
The death dog puppies are emaciated and weak from malnutrition. Even if you got them to another nursing death dog they would be fighting healthy death dog pups for resources and would be unlikely to survive. You have no idea how prevalent other death dogs are in the area.
well I'm out of ideas and struggling to figure out how to RP my way out of this without getting violent with the party
Can my character think of any other solutions???
