It depends. Normal guidelines say that traitors die when getting killed by mafia.

I prefer the "traitors are recruited by mafia" variant more, because that's a more interesting NK dynamic tbh. Mafia now have to decide if they're gonna shoot to kill townies, or shoot to find their friend and recruit them.
