19. As with any mafia game, you can vote for a player to get them eliminated, you can vote for a No Elimination, or you can not vote at all.

Snowy Owl - Bubo scandiacus

This bird species is also known variably as the 'Polar owl', the 'white owl' or the 'Arctic owl.' As this would suggest, it lives across the Arctic region, and they have white skin - although their skin often has black or brown marks, which are especially prominent in females of the species. This bird is nomadic, meaning it rarely settles in one space at a time. It can live about anywhere in the Arctic tundra, but it only breeds in the very cold and treeless tundra nearer to the North Pole. This is mostly because they like open spaces where they can see far distances. It is relatively large, compared to other owls, and has a very smooth head. Like many birds, they like to perch on telephone lines, fenceposts and other vantage points. They tend to sit on the ground to hunt, and when they fly it will usually be near the ground - they use their extraordinary vision to track down prey and quickly pounce. They prey on small mammals, especially lemmings which can be found in the tundra. They also eat many other species, including small birds and waterfowl. Since they live in the tundra, it's difficult for us to estimate their population size, but they are classified as 'vulnerable' by the IUCN and we are confident their population is on a significant downwards trend. This is because of human activity; partially climate change destroying their tundra habitats, and also because the species they prey on are declining in population and making it more difficult for them to find food. Although human development is not as common in the tundra, collisions with vehicles and other human infrastructure may also be causing many snowy owls to die. I hope this trend reverses soon, because they are very cute.

Common Wood Pigeon - Columba palumbus

This bird species is also known as simply the 'wood pigeon'. This bird can be spotted using the white lines on its wings. Its primary habitat is Europe, although it also lives in parts of Asia and North Africa. Their skin colour is gentle shades of grey and brown for the most part, but its bill is orange-red and its breast is almost lilac in colour. They build simple nests that may appear flimsy, but are actually stable and can often be used for years. This species is a large beneficiary of human civilisation, and will often live in parks, gardens, and other urban green spaces, while also appearing elsewhere in urban areas frequently. They also live in woodlands, especially on the edges of it. This bird is mostly a herbivore, with a varied diet of all plant pars - berries, leaves, seeds, buds and flowers. They also feed on common agricultural crops, like wheat, barley and corn - in large flocks, they can be quite the pest for farmers! Because they benefit from their interactions with humans, they are classified as 'Least Concern' by the IUCN, and their population is increasing. It's estimated there are around 50-75 million mature common wood pigeons alive right now.

Chihuahuan Raven - Corvus cryptoleucus

This bird can be identified by its entirely black feathers and long bill. It is native to Northern Mexico and the Southwest United States, and lives in arid and semi-arid habitats, such as sparsely wooded grassland or desert. However, these birds can also move into agricultural areas or landfills where they may find more plentiful food. It struggles to compete with other corvids on the American continent, such as the American crow and the common raven, so its habitats are where these species are less common or absent entirely. Like other corvids, this bird is an opportunistic omnivore. They use many methods to forage, such as walking on the ground, hunting from a perch or flying low. Their most common food source is insects like grasshoppers and beetles. They can also eat larger animals, like fish, amphibians and other birds. Of course, they also eat plants, especially fruits and grains. As part of a courting ritual, these ravens will touch bills with each other! This species is classified as LC (Least Concern) by the IUCN, and population sizes are thought to be roughly stable.

Red-billed quelea - Quelea quelea

This bird has a white belly, and black, grey and white feathers. As the name would suggest, the most distinctive feature of this bird is its bright red bill. It is notable for being the most abundant wild bird on the planet (the most abundant bird full-stop is the domesticated chicken). They live in large groups - also referred to as 'super-colonies' - and they will often all raid cultivated land at the same time. The average red-billed quelea eats 10g of grain every day, and there can be millions in a single colony. To counter the destruction of crops, farmers use a chemical called Fenthion in places the species is known to roost or breed. It lives on the southern part of the African continent, mostly in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa. However, they can also be found in many sub-Saharan African countries, like Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia. It is predated on by some larger birds, such as falcons, herons and raptors. Its own diet consists of seeds (especially from grasses and grains) and insects such as caterpillars and termites. Of course, as it thrives in the anthropomorphic era, this bird is rated as Least Concern by the IUCN.

European turtle dove - Streptopelia turtur

The european turtle dove is largely brown with a pink tinge. Its plummage is black and caramel brown. This bird lives in forests, steppe biomes and semi-arid areas. It eats an assortment of seeds from various weeds and grains, and is preyed upon by other birds and also snakes. This is a migratory bird; counterintuitively, it can be seen from Svalbard to China to South Africa! Unfortunately, since humans are exploiting the forests in which these birds often live, population size is decreasing. Therefore, this bird is rated as 'VN' or vulnerable by the IUCN. In European Russia, the population size of this dove dropped over 90% since 1980! Doves are traditionally supposed to represent peace, but I don't think this bird looks like the traditional depiction of a dove at all. Maybe that means it's not peaceful?

Emperor penguin - Aptenodytes forsteri

Adult emperor penguins are black and white, with a yellow tinge around their necks. Chicks of the species have a gray colour. This bird lives on the coast and the nearshore, with the largest populations being in the Ross Sea and the Wendell Sea around Antarctica. While they only really reside in Antarctica, vagrant populations can be found in areas around the Southern Ocean, such as New Zealand and the Falkland Islands. This bird feeds on a variety of fish, especially the Antarctic silverfish and krill. They don't really have any predators, but emperor penguin chicks can be predated on by larger sea creatures if left unattended, like sealions and killer whales. The emperor penguin is significantly decreasing in population size as a trend, and is rated as NT (Near Threatened) by the IUCN. The main threat to emperor penguins is climate change threatening the icy habitats of Antarctica which it lives in. It was first rated this way in 2012, having been rated as Least Concern in 2009. The IUCN also describes this penguin species as "a fundamental element of the human relationship with Antarctica" which I think is accurate.

Herring gull - Larus argentatus

Herring gulls are mostly white and light gray in colour, and they have pink legs. They can be found along coastlines, around lakes and reservoirs, and even in fields and rubbish tips. This bird can be found throughout Northern Europe, and to some extent in Southwest Europe. It will feed on a wide variety of animals, as it is an opportunist. It likes to eat crabs in particular, but will also eat human food - either in rubbish tips, or right off our plates if we're eating outside. The species is rated as LC (Least Concern) by the IUCN due to its relative success and wide distribution. However, the population size of the herring gull is decreasing. Interestingly, despite evolving to only live and breed on the coast, an increasing number of herring gulls now live inland, likely due to human civilisation facilitating them.

Eurasian sparrowhawk - Accipiter nisus

The Eurasian sparrowhawk is mostly caramel brown in colour, with brown and gray feathers. The colour of this species can be pretty variable, though. Their eyes are starkly bright yellow. This small bird is a surprisingly skilled predator, and eats other small birds such as sparrows, tits and finches. Females of this species are about 25% larger than the males. To impress the female, a male sparrowhawk will do a 'rollercoaster flight' in which it flies in complex patterns to demonstrate its agility and reflexes. Its habitat is woodland, and it builds nests in the canopy of the forest. While it prefers dense forests, it can live in almost any forest, and even cities or suburbs. As the name would suggest, it can be found in the continents of Europe and Asia, from the UK to Japan. According to the IUCN, the species is rated as 'LC' or Least Concern, owing to the lack of any evidence for declining population and the existence of about 1 million individuals of this species.

Rainbow lorikeet - Trichoglossus haematodus

The rainbow lorikeet is easily identifiable due to its colourful plumage. It has a blue head and belly, an orange breast, and green wings. Its diet mostly consists of flowers of trees and shrubs. This bird lives in coastal Australia, specifically in the northern and eastern regions. Its habitat is woodland and rainforest, but it can also live in urban areas if they have enough trees. It is rated as 'LC' or Least Concern by the IUCN, since it has a pretty high population size and a large range. The population size does appear to be decreasing, but the trend is rather slow. They are known for being the easiest lorikeet to keep as a pet, and like other verities of parrot, they are able to talk - even without their owner specifically teaching them to!

Bald eagle - Haliaeetus leucocephalus

The bald eagle is identifiable by its dark brown feathers, white head, yellow beak and formidable posture. It's actually a sea eagle, but can be found inland near to rivers and lakes. This bird isn't actually bald, but appeared as such to whoever name it due to the striking contrast of its white head with the rest of its body. They have a varied, albeit mostly carnivorous, diet - they like to eat fish, but will often eat on other animals like smaller birds, snakes, and crabs. In 1782, this bird was declared the American national bird, but since then its population has declined harshly, mostly due to human activity. These birds were actually hunted for sport, and American officials would often put bounties upon them. However, nowadays the population size is increasing, and the bird is rated as 'LC' or Least Concern by the IUCN.

Mandarin duck - Aix galericulata

The mandarin duck is colourful. Male mandarin ducks have orange plumes on their cheek and pale orange sides, with red beaks and green stripes on its head. The female mandarin duck has a grey head and brown backs. These birds are quite shy, despite their eye-catching nature. They often hid in shade spots and only form small flocks, and they usually nest within holes in trees. This bird is native to the northeast of Asia, including in China, Japan and Korea, but it has been introduced to the UK and mostly resides in wetlands in Southeast England there.

Orange breasted falcon - Falco deiroleucus

The orange breasted falcon is, intuitively, recognisable by its bright orange breast, its striking yellow and black eyes and dark brown wings. However, it looks very similar to another species called the bat falcon. The best way to distinguish between the two is that the orange breasted falcon has more orange above the stripe on its chest. It's a bird of prey and a very agile flier - its eyesight is eight times better than ours.. Its habitat is Latin America - it can be found sparsely from Guatemala to Uruguay, and is probably most present in Peru and Bolivia. It is rated as Near Threatened by the IUCN. Since it is sparsely populated, and our understanding of South American ecology isn't always the best, we know little about this species - but given how the rate of deforestation is affecting similar species, we can make an educated guess they're not doing very well.

Little owl - Athene noctua

The little owl can be identified by their small size relative to other animals, their brown feathers with white spots, and their piercing yellow glare. This bird is native to Eurasia, from France to China, but it was first introduced into the UK by humans in the 1800s. It has similarly been introduced to New Zealand, but not Australia for whatever reason. For the most part, it eats small birds and small mammals, but it can also eat worms. It is monogamous and will often stay with a single partner for most of its life. Due to its large range, it is rated LC by the IUCN. Its population trend appears to be stable.

I think my feeling personally is that tracker isn't strong enough for me to pair it with ninja without a watcher. Generally I would not want to design a setup where mafia power roles are designed around countering specific town roles which aren't strong. Tracker is a role where the strength depends a lot on the game size but I don't think it's very strong at 13p.

It's not wrong to consider the tracker since other mods might view things differently, just my personal take

also, if people are willing to give feedback; was the flavour on the vote counts good to have? Like, did anyone read it, or would it have been better to just have slightly quicker vote counts? This is something I was experimenting with in this game. My instinct is to say people didn't read it and it might be more of an unnecessary distraction in normals, but idk how accurate that is.
