Some games give us puzzles to solve. Some give us an escape from life's grind. Some give us a sandbox for solving our real world problems. Some are metaphors for our past, present and future. Some allow us to see childhood friends again, and renew memories of relatives, loved ones, and beloved pets who are no longer with us. Some throw images into our defenseless minds that scare the hoolies out of us: bad memories, and things that just plain scare us.

We embark on an dream adventure. Not all of us will wake up. Not all of us will want to wake up. But, dream we shall until the dreaming ends for good or for ill.

Setup Specific Rules (These are important!)

One member of the
Dream Voyagers
is selected to be the
Dreamer
during Pregame, and their identity is not revealed. The
Dreamer
is the ultimate arbiter of which Dream will take place during the night. Due to various circumstances, such as night kills, other players may become Dreamer as the game progresses.
At the start of each
Moonrise
phase, 6 dream titles will be revealed.
This setup features 2 additional phases.
Moonrise
occurs first, before the day phase and lasts at least 24 hours, and as long as needed to select the Night cycle's dream.
Twilight
occurs after the Elimination has been posted, and last 6 hours.
During the Moonrise phase players may begin voting for 3 unique Dreams by sending a PM to the Mods. Players can change their votes as often as they wish. Votes inside the thread can be posted, but the mods will not keep count, nor will any vote in the game thread count towards the result.Ties will be resolved by a non-random mechanic known only to the
Bad Dreams
.
The game will remain unlocked during the first 24 hours of the
Moonrise
phase and players can continue discussing the merits of the various dreams and voting/changing their votes for their top 3 Dream preferences. At the same time, the
Bad Dreams
will confer and secretly come up with a discard priority. After 24 hours, the game thread will be locked and the
Bad Dreams'
highest priority among the top 3 voted dreams will be discarded. The vote tallies and final two Dreams will be posted in the Game thread.
The
Dreamer
privately chooses which of the final two dreams to reveal, and picks the Night's dream. The chosen Dream will be revealed by the Mods. If the the Dream the
Dreamer
revealed isn't chosen, then both dreams will be revealed. This ends the
Moonrise
phase and Day begins.
Discarded Dreams cannot become one of the 6 dreams on a later
Moonrise
phase. Any dream that is discarded will be "flipped" showing the exact effects it would have had.
Unchosen Dreams that aren't revealed or discarded can show up again on future
Moonrise
phases.
There is at least one ability in the game that will modify dream choices.
Dreams can affect the night phase, day phase, or both.
Dreams may also grant power roles to players. Unless specified, these may be held onto or used the same cycle.
Dreams with global effects will not affect more than one cycle.
All permanent private topics have day and night talk enabled at all times unless temporary
Dream
or role mechanics restrict talking done in PTs.
Dreamers
beware! The
Bad Dreams
are looking for you. The
Bad Dreams
have at least one ability that will actively hunt the identity of the
Dreamer
. You very much do not want this to occur.
You may not be out of the game when you die. Players will not be added to the spectator thread while that possibility exists. Instead you will receive a private thread for your musings and speculations about the game. If you have a role to play after death, this private thread may become part of it.

General Rules (These are also important!)

Site Rules are in effect. Please familiarize yourself and follow them.
We don’t tolerate ad hom wars. If your posting is merely insulting a player without providing game content, you can expect a strike from us. Three strikes, you’re out. We are fairly lenient about this, but posting “Fuck you” over and over again is simply not acceptable. Severe issues will be reported to the list mod(s) via our super sekrit chat room we totally have with the hive.
If we say it violates these rules, it does. You can take it up with us postgame if you wish.
Play towards your win condition. Gambits are fine, directly harming your own team is not.
Once an elimination is reached, you may continue discussion until we lock the thread. No votes or unvotes will count after an elimination has been achieved.
An elimination is achieved as a majority of players voting for somebody. Half is not a majority.
Do not quote or pretend to quote any information you get from us via PM. This includes posting your role card verbatim. Paraphrasing is fine, as are role claims naturally.
Do not talk about this game anywhere else, or with anyone else.
Do not discuss ongoing games in this thread. This includes games on sites other than mafiascum. This also includes using [redacted] as that loophole does not fly here.
We are usually rather lenient upon activity. This game is an exception. Post every 48 hours. Failure to do so will earn you a prod. Respond to your prod within 24 hours, or face replacement. Three prods is also a force replacement.
If you need to replace out of this game, send us a private message about it. Once you have sent that PM you are out of the game, unless you change your mind and we agree to it. Do NOT post that you want to be replaced, or that you have asked to be replaced in the game thread.
Claiming scum by yourself is fine. Claiming scum with another player is an instant modkill. Don't do it.
We do not require unvotes. Your vote will be counted so long as you bold it or use the vote tag. Shorthand names are fine so long as it’s clear who the vote is for.
If you have a question, please PM us. If a question is something that should be answered publicly, we will make a post addressing it without naming who asked it.
If our vote count is wrong, you can PM us or post in the thread (use the bold tag and "@MOD") about it.
We do not fix tags or edit posts where you might make a formatting mistake, even if you ask us to. There is ONE exception. If you accidentally misgender someone you can ask for it to be corrected after the game is over.
We reserve the right to add to these rules or modify them, but only when we post notifying all players in the game of the change.
Loophole abuse is all fun and games until we modkill you. Don’t try it.
Blue

is our color. You are welcome to use any other color of the rainbow.
Encryption, text hiding, and the like are silly. Don’t do it.
Extensions will be granted at 48 hours per replacement, up to a total duration of 4 days max per game phase.
Do not use temporary information to convey messages. This includes your signature and your avatar, but is not limited to these things.
While putting your vote or unvote on its own line is helpful, it is not necessary and any attempts to game voting formatting will be dealt with as an attempt to cheat. If we think it was a vote, it was a vote.
A modkill will always punish the faction modkilled more as far as timing goes. All modkills will be done after consultation with the listmods. Modkills may or may not end the day. Modkilled players will be changed to a neutral survivor, meaning they lose the game instantly.
In the event of site downtime lasting more than 3 hours; time will be added to the deadline to compensate at a 1 to 1 ratio.
All factional decisions must be agreed upon by all living members of that faction.

For transparency:

The mod error that occurred was the announcement of the discarded dream. That was an example I (Cabd) had provided and that was mistakenly taken as directions to add to the opening Moonrise post. The resolution of this error will be as follows:

1: The "I lost my job and had to go back to my first job: Pizza Delivery." dream is fully removed from the setup and will be left unknown forever.
2: A new sixth dream will be randomly selected from the pool of all dreams and inserted into the list of

Moonrise

dreams for this phase instead.
3: 1 hour will be added to the deadline to compensate for this error.
4: For clarity, the discard from the

Bad Dreams

faction occurs once the votes have been tallied for the end of the

Moonrise

phase and there are three dreams remaining.

Players may discuss their guess as to what the discarded dream was/did, but not any other aspect of this error. Thank you!

Temporary Phase-Specific Rules

The first vote count (other than the day-opening one) will occur once 100 content posts have been made in this game day phase.
Posts that are ONLY votes with no other content do not count towards this total of 100 posts.
Images, tags other than the vote tag (or bold tags for marking your vote), and other content count as content, and make a post count towards the 100 total.
Once this vote count has been posted, each player is allowed one additional post with content. We will track the usage of this with a section in the vote counts for easy viewing.
After that, all players are limited to ONLY posting votes. Each vote must be for a living player slot (or no elimination); any attempts to vote for non-players to pass content along will be treated as a violation of the post restriction.
Players who break the restriction on content posting will have negative effects applied to them. Players who continue to break these rules will have disastrous effects applied to them. You absolutely do NOT want these to happen to you.
Once the elimination flip or lack thereof is posted, the thread will proceed immediately to Twilight. During Twilight, all remaining players may post freely.
All questions to the mod should be done via PM, not via in-thread bold tags, during this phase.

The Revivify spell isn't much, but it's way cheaper than Resurrection!

You're on your way to see your great-grandparents. You remember exactly where they live. You park on the street because the house doesn't have a driveway. It looks older and more dilapidated than you remember.

There is no doorbell. So you knock.

Nothing.

You knock again.

Nothing,

So you get out your keys. One is a huge skeleton key. That's the one.

You unlock the door. It creaks horrendously as you open it.

"Hey! Gran, Pops! I'm here!"

The only reply is rustling drapes from the wind.

"Gran? Pops?"

More wind.

You walk through the hallways toward the back of the house. Maybe they're in the kitchen. But they aren't. Why aren't they home?

The house is really cold. And the lights are all off. The light switches don't work.

You decide to go upstairs and check around.

At the top of the stairs you hear noises, maybe from a bedroom. You start checking rooms, and going up and down hallways. The house seems unfamiliar, but you're convinced this is exactly how you remember it from childhood.

Another hallway. And another.

You look back and everything looks unfamiliar now even though you just walked through it.

You try to trace your way back to the top of the stairs, but you go deeper and deeper into a multitude of rooms. In each room the decor is stranger than the last.

This has to be a dream.

You will yourself to wake up, but it doesn't work. You just keep wandering, lost, in this improbably huge house.

And you remember. Your great grandparents have been dead for a long time.

The dreamer becomes a tree stump after death and is allowed one post per each day and night phase after their death. If the dreamer is Mafia, after death they instead retain the ability to post in the Mafia PT.

Some people actually like math. It doesn't add up.

The dreamer passes out a 6 player modulo parity cop to the player of their choice. The results are "Even" (0, 2, 4, 6 of one alignment) or "Odd" (1, 3, 5 of one alignment) The receiving player can use it the night they receive it if they wish. If fewer than 6 players are alive, then the parity cop is [number of living players] modulo. The results will still be Even or Odd.

A dark cloud, coruscating with terrifying energy discharges,approached on a tangent, from the dark side of Earth, threatening...something. The shadow encompassed the entire orb.

If we had a body, we could protect the orb. But we don't.

We were afraid. We are afraid.

What was it?

An illusion?

It was real.

But there was no real. No Earth. No dream.

I've drafted a post with all the actions that happened in each phase. Cabd needs to review it. Even after two sets of eyeballs we may have missed something. But, I'm sure they'll come to light in discussion.

We're going to save the unused dreams for a possible third game design. We'd need to do a lot of tweaking, but they'll be useful to get started with. Other than unseen dreams, I think everything is or will be made public in our next big post.
