He is a newbie. The wording of this and the fact that he was a mess of posts then posted this nicely and left it means he is town. Were he scum there would have been some more trying to cover himself as newbies do. Were he an experienced player not in his first game then it would be null. It is a preliminary read but I am fair sure he is town.Mr Nobody wrote:Sorry, I have a tendancy to over-explain myself.Don't @ me.-

I made a bandwagon to try to get things going, you later on added that you "tried to make a small bandwagon" in attempts to make your vote seem more legitimate.Mr Nobody wrote:

@Esp- I'm not really sure. It might be slightly newb that he admitted to an OMGUS but the fact that he admitte to trying to start a bandwagon is rubbing me the wrong way...
What's the normal strategy for dealing with lurkers?
And as for lurkers, there's two different kinds.
Lurker 1:
Just doesn't go online period, never posts in games, probably hasn't seen what's been happening lately in the game thread. I don't find this one vote worthy.
Lurker 2:
Signs on to MF multiple times without posting material, and may even post material into other games. I don't like it when people do this, but I also don't think it's worth a lynch. Maybe a few votes to get pressure on the person, but definitelynota lynch.MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDERMURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER-

oooooo. Ok this is one thing I was timid about teaching. I have had many idscussions about the true reasons why RVS works so well. I have always held the opinion that RVS is designed to build pressure so that information can come out at a good and healthy rate. How does this happen? Pressure. In a mature small game it is not weird to see someone at L-1 during RVS because of this very reason. I actually applaud a newbie that isn't scared to starta bandwagon so long as they also know when one isn't warranted.Rioku243 wrote:@STDD- It was at Mr.Nobody.

There's never a clear point where RVS is over. Different people come out of it at different stages. So, one person could be really suspicious of somebody and put in a proper vote for them, while at the same time another person could still feel like there is such a lack of information that it is okay to still be throwing random votes around everywhere.RandomMaster wrote:Is RVS over? I'm never really sure when it is...
Anyway, I'm not seeing anything that's particularly screaming out Mafia or screaming out Good from anybody at the moment.
mallowgeno, get an avatar.

Lurking post for Lurkers.
1. There is a difference between active lurking and inactive lurking
2. There are two forms of inactive lurking. Purposeful and Flaking.
3. Flaking is when you don't post because you are not around. You have no interest in the game and should be replaced out.
4. Purposeful Inactive Lurking: When you are not posting at all on purpose. Not scummy but definantly anti-town. Is a null tell.
5. Active Lurking aka Lurking in Plain Sight: When you are posting in threas. You have a normal post rate and you are pretending to contribute to the game. However most long posts will be full of either IIoA or WIFOM. May not even try and post content and will post just to avoid the prod. This is scummy but there are possible town motivations for it, especially amongst newbies.
(IIoA = Information Instead of Analysis, Someone is narrating instead of scum/town hunting)(WIFOM = Wine In Front Of Me, If you don't know what this is look it up in the wiki. The amount of discussions about WIFOM that I have seen in Newbie games is astounding so lets just leave that one for now unless it becomes inportant to look into it furthur.)
Anyway. There are many types of lurkers. The best bet is to get on their backs if they aren't flaking otherwise leave it up to the mod.
Ok now to adress some more game related things. @ Mr.N: Yeah he did start one but the execution of it was different and as such you got the tick of approval while he didn't.
@RM: Eh we are kinda in kinda out. As trendall said there is no set time. When one can make a coherent case it is usually safe to say we are out of it.
I'll have a look back over the last couple of pages and I might change votes in a sec. Until then be happy with my educational post of the day.Don't @ me.-

After rereading all 2 pages of this thread, I'm not really feeling My Mr. Nobody vote so UNVOTE: Mr. Nobody.
However, I am feeling like I should VOTE: Trendall.
He starts off the thread with no vote. I'm assuming because he doesn't really want to draw suspicion to himself. When he's called out on his lack of random vote by RandomMaster, he comes up with a one line excuse.
Then we don't hear anything from him until he decides to try and explain RVS and tell people to get avatars, yet again with the excuse that there's not enough evidence yet. I'm thinking he's trying not to draw attention to himself.-

1) By being completely different from everybody else and not putting a random vote in now, I was probably drawing more attention to myself, albeit unintentionally. It just never occurred to me at the time that someone might see it as suspicious, so looking back now I probably should have just thrown a random vote in, but whatever. Plus, I did throw in a vote for mallowgeno eventually.Rioku243 wrote:1) He starts off the thread with no vote. I'm assuming because he doesn't really want to draw suspicion to himself.

2) RandomMaster pointed out that I'd not put a random vote in. I gave him a reason for that. That reason happened to be a short one. I'm not sure what I was expected to say there, but I can't think of any legitimate response to that that would have required reams and reams of explanation.
3) I didn't post for a while because of some stuff that happened irl, not because I'm hiding anything. I know I can't prove that or anything, but in this game, people's posting frequency is obviously going to be affected by stuff in real life from time to time. And, I'm sorry, but we're on page 2, I think there is very little to go by right now. Give it time, and I'll start forming arguments against people, but I'm not one for taking an insignificant event, like someone not putting in a random vote, and blowing it out of proportion.-

1) You did vote for mallow but I saw it as an out to try and find someone to vote because you realized how suspicious it was to not vote.
2) It just seemed like another way to cover yourself from looking too suspicious. You really couldn't just point and pick a name? That seems a little hard to believe. Or maybe you just didn't want anyone to criticize you for your vote? That seems likely.
3) I'll retract this point. Real life didn't even occur to me as I was typing that. I apologize. But
really seems like your trying to act like your participating while posting nothing of real content at all. Maybe this is how you really feel at the moment but I think it's scummy.Trendall:Anyway, I'm not seeing anything that's particularly screaming mafia, or screaming out Good from anybody at the moment-

I didn't realise there was like a code of etiquette to the RVS. I thought it was just a matter of some people putting in random votes at the start of the game to get conversation going, and nothing more. I've seen games on this site before where people have flat out refused to vote right at the start, because they simply 'don't like RVS'. I mean, sure, I could have just gone 'Vote Rioku' or something right at the start, and nobody would have thought anything of it, but it pretty much didn't occur to me because I didn't realise that the RVS is such serious business to some people. If I were a mafia person, I probably would have paid more attention and tried to blend in more, but because I've got nothing to hide at the moment, I really wasn't thinking about it that much.Rioku243 wrote:1) You did vote for mallow but I saw it as an out to try and find someone to vote because you realized how suspicious it was to not vote.

For what it's worth, I did the exact same thing in the last game I was in. I didn't put in a random vote until a good couple of posts in, and nobody called me out on it. As for supposedly not posting content, again, that's not me trying to detract attention from myself, but I was just merely pointing out my opinion on the game at the moment. Just because it's a fairly bland and neutral opinion doesn't mean that it's not a real one.
And don't worry about apologising, I wasn't offended or anything-

1.) You saw it as an out? He did it much later. If he was was trying to use it as an out, he would've done it in his explaining post, or a post earlier than the one he voted in.Rioku243 wrote:1) You did vote for mallow but I saw it as an out to try and find someone to vote because you realized how suspicious it was to not vote.

2.) Many people don't participate in RVS. It's nothing strange, nor do I see it as a scum tell.
3.) He was stating is views on the game so far...? :\MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDERMURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER MURMAIDER
