How am I supposed to know it is a holiday if you guys don't tell me? It is not like I didn't say two weeks in advance what where the plans were for the voting period >_>

I didn't know. But then I am all the way down in NZ. Also means that (90% of the time) I'm on the server when no one else is.
Spoiler: Screenshots
The mountain.
The staircase, all the way from the ground to the top.
I have quite a view from my house.
and it is
quite
a drop.
The house itself is a bit of a let down.
But home sweet home.
I even have a Nether Portal.
The clouds do obscure the view a bit though.

Edit: As a note: I added a fair deal of glass to the nether zone after our [My+Rhinox]
encounter
with a Ghast, involving lots of the netherrack around my portal igniting/blowing up, the portal even went out. Briefly. The glass will prevent future Ghast attacks around my portal.

Hey anyone interested in doing a cooperative / succession type of thing?
Like, someone starts by going out into some random place in the world bringing nothing with them, do stuff for some number of day/night cycles (maybe 6? 2hrs of gameplay if no beds are used, 1 hour if building days only), then place all gathered supplies and equipment into chests, and then the next person takes over for their turn of day/night cycles. We could post screenshots of the progress in this thread, and keep cycling through all of us until people start to get bored with it.
(I got the idea from the Civ 5 succession game in mish mash, thought it would be fun to do with minecraft)
DonJosh -- Notch has released an ¨official¨ (pre-release) version of 1.8. He doesn´t care about the leaking that much.
Converting the world from 1.7 to 1.8 will not be that bad. The limit between the old and new chunks will have some annoying weird walls, but some people may find them ¨alluring¨.
Villages are funny. Abandoned mineshafts are really alluring - long, reveal a lot of minerals. I heard some amazing things about abandoned underground fortresses (libraries! and more!) but haven´t found one yet myself. Endermen are cute. Running is okay. New blocks YAY YAY!
That said, it has a few game stopping bugs:
- Nether with tree leaves seem to crash the game (I have not verified it myself)
- furnaces turning on or off crash the game. I have tried dozens of different video settings, but it is consistent (changing the video setting also crashes the game). I´d wait for the ¨official¨ 1.8 before converting the server.
There is an ocean on the other side of those two spires - I just have to build the channel.
Also, I found a mod the fixes the furnace problem. Although jeb´s tweet says that they are currently fixing the pre-18 release, and then will release the official 18.
Exploring abandoned mineshafts can be scary. So many corners for skeletons and creepers to hide! Worse yet (or better yet) is when a long mineshaft ends in a underground ravina full of lava at the bottom!
