IMPERIAL INTRIGUE

Image

Spoiler: Opening Flavor
The
Beran
sat on the Burning Throne, face hard and scowling, posture rigid and straight, as usual. The Throne Room was dark - lamps down, shutters drawn - lit only by the bright glow of the Throne itself. The great doors cracked open and a shadowed figure entered; Garen Sturmengard raised a hand to his chin and glared at the man as he crossed the room to the base of the Throne's elevated platform. "A number of emissaries demand audience,
mein herr
," said the steward, halting with a stamp of his foot and bowing his slightly in respect.

"Who?" asked the
Beran
, narrowing his eyes.

"Most refuse to identify their benefactors,
herr
, citing fear for their safety. All demand
private
audience."

"If they deign to grace me with their presence without showing common courtesy then they shall receive no preferential treatment from me," the
Beran
growled, his scowl hardening. "Light the lamps, send them in."

"Which ones,
mein herr
?"

"All of them. They'll settle their disputes like men or they won't be settled at all."

Welcome to my first Large Theme game. I hope and plan to have a lot of fun with this, so just sit back, relax, and follow the damn rules, and we'll be alright.

Rules

1. Votes must be bolded in this format:
Vote: Wraith

2. Days will have a deadline of three weeks. Deadline can be extended under special circumstances
-----2a. Deadline will be shortened at my discretion as the game progresses
3. Factions CAN daytalk
4. Do not under any circumstances communicate with another player(s) outside the game thread.
5. Please do not quote the role PM
-----5a. Please ask permission before quoting any PM from the mod.
6. Absolutely no invisible, small, or otherwise unreadable text. Spoiler tags are allowed as long as the nature of their contents are clearly labeled.
7. You will be prodded after failing to post in 72 hours. If you require a third prod at any point in the game you will instead be replaced. Inform in-thread of any upcoming V/LA in bold:
V/LA Sunday to Saturday

-----7a. If you join to my game and flake without posting or requesting replacement you will be blacklisted.
8. “Bah” posts are allowed, and should not include any kind of game-related information. However, lynched players may continue to talk during Twlight.
9. Twilight occurs after the hammer and before the lynch scene. You may continue to talk but any new votes/unvotes will not be counted.
-----9a. "No Lynch" occurs when HALF of the remaining players vote for it.
10.
Blue
is my color, don’t use it.
-----10a. Uncolored
Italics
will be used in flavor. Only the opening flavor will be spoilered.
11. I modkill at my discretion, with or without warnings depending on the offense. If you think something will test my rules (or patience), ask me first, or don’t do it at all. Modkills will end the day and turn the killed player into a Neutral Survivor.
12. If I make a mistake in some way, point it out via:
@mod: You made a mistake

13. I reserve the right to add to or change the rules at my discretion. There are no loopholes, and I enforce ex post facto.
14. Don't be afraid to have fun. Despite the wording of these rules I am not a ruthless dictator and the vast majority of players are not trolls. Good luck!
-----14a. To be more specific: Please Be Civil
15. On Activity Requirements and Replacements: Players will be prodded upon request or if they go 72 hours without any sort of activity. A player will receive two prods before being force-replaced. Replacements will be recruited via the mini normal queue topic or if a player contacts me via PM and requests to be the first priority for replacing someone. If a player does not respond to a prod at all within 72 hours that player will be replaced regardless of number of prods.
-----15a. I have had serious activity problems in the past. I will tighten activity requirements as I see fit.
16. I have certain house rules regarding roles:
-----17a. Serial Killers are immune to Cop investigations in Large games
-----17b. PGOs are killed if they are targeted by a nightkill, but they do kill their attacker
-----17c. People are informed if they are roleblocked in a normal game
17. Play to win. I don't care if someone you hate is in your faction, if you throw the game to spite someone you will be modkilled and blacklisted.
18. Flavor will play a heavy part of my contribution in this game. Remember that any public flavor that I write willl have NO BEARING on the alignments of players mentioned. I will attempt to put flavorized recaps of game events into each votecount, and flavor will open and end each day. Flavor will work its way into official PMs as well, and if it makes sense flavor-wise players who are killed during the night will be informed as to who murdered them (PMs about questions to me will not be flavored). After flips the names of players (which will be bracketed in flavor) will be replaced by the names of their characters if I have the time to do so.

Day One

The great doors to the Throne Room were thrown open, and twenty-four men and women marched inside. The
Beran
stood and briefly gave them the Imperial salute. Most returned it, bowing slightly as well - others did not. "What is the meaning of this?" demanded
[JDGA]
, spreading his arms wide. "We requested a private audience, not a mob debate!"

"Many of you are so arrogant as to
demand
things of me. I may be only of a minor klan but I am still
Beran
, and here, now, my word is law. I will not be talked down to like one of your servants," Sturmengard rumbled. "You did not
request
audience, you demanded it. So did the rest of you. And so you will all have the audience you demanded...together."

A cacophony of voices erupted, drowning out all other sounds within the hall. Under the cover of the chaos, a steward slipped through the crowd of delegates and approached the
Beran
, saluting and handing him a message. Reading it, Sturmengard's expression turned grim. "SILENCE!" he bellowed, holding up a hand. Almost immediately the hall suddenly obeyed his command. "The legion commanders have dispatched me messages from all across the
Relm
. There are armies stirring in the north, west, and east, all claiming to be fighting for the rightful heir to the throne!"

"Well they're all dirty liars!" interrupted
[vezokpiraka]
. Many others shouted in agreement. The
Beran
growled and raised his hand again, scowling at them.

"As I was saying," he continued. "They all claim the Iron Crown, and march on the city to take it by force if necessary." He clenched his fist and crumpled the letter. "I suspect the nobles are behind this," he growled, narrowing his eyes and staring at each delegate in turn. "Some of you must represent these traitors, yet you refuse to identify yourselves. Very well. By majority vote of your peers, you will be found and exiled from the
Relm
, at best. At worst, you will be executed." The
Beran
settled himself on the Burning Throne. "Begin."

Spoiler: Flavor
"Death to traitors!" yelled
[SleepyKrew]
, shaping his fingers into the shape of a gun and aiming at
[Otolia]
. The crowd instantly flew into an uproar. Fingers pointed at
[SleepyKrew]
and
[David Xanatos]
. "I am of House Keiger!"
[SleepKrew]
continued. "House Argelev seeks to overthrow their own rule! Declare yourselves and show your true allegiances!" he continued, grinning like a fool.

"Slander! How dare you accuse the honorable House Argelev of treason!"
[David Xanatos]
responded. The arguments of the crowd once again descended into unintelligible screaming.

"Ha! It was all part of my cunning plan to out the traitors!"
[SleepyKrew]
pointed his finger at
[David Xanatos]
accusingly. "Here is a
traitor
,
Herr Beran
!"

"Liar! Traitor!"
[David Xanatos]
seemed on the verge of launching himself at
[SleepyKrew]
.

"You're all idiots," groaned
[Otolia]
. "And that was some jest. That looked like a real weapon in the low light! House Delmar will expose you for what you are, traitor!"

"I agree that they are all idiots," said
[gandalf5166]
, "But I believe
[David Xanatos]
's loyalty is unquestionable."

"It's obvious, you fools,"
[Magua]
cut in, "
[David Xanatos] is a traitor. Such an overreaction to a simple jest. And [/i][Otolia]
must be a loyalist. Nevertheless, I must say that I believe the loyalties of
[SleepyKrew]
and
[JDGA]
to be up in the air..."

The
Beran
sat silent on the Burning Throne, expression unreadable.

For those unfamiliar with my style of votecounts: Any slashed out names are PREVIOUS VOTES, in chronological order.

And for the record: "Loyalist" and "Allied with House Argelev" and the like are synonymous with Town. Loyalist is also the name for VT. Imagine that.

Also sorry David, but I use American spellings :P

I've decided to spoiler the flavor because I think the bright blue-black contrast looks bad.

@David Xanatos: That is correct. For example, "Town Roleblocker" would here be called "Loyalist Roleblocker"

You're right, I should have clarified that in the original post. I will modify that to reflect it.

Spoiler: Flavor
As factions began to form within the crowd over whether to banish
[David Xanatos]
or
[SleepyKrew]
, new voices began to find their way above the din of argument. "David should not be lynched," said
[gandalf5166]
, "I think he is related to secrets I might know. Secret secrets that I cannot share with the Loyalists."

"Traitor!" yelled
[vezokpiraka]
jutting a finger at
[gandalf5166]
accusingly. "I don't think your loyalties are sound! This is a dire situation, and nothing should be kept secret!"

"No, shut up," said
[MacDougall]
, "I think everyone's wrong about this. There's got to be rightful heirs, fake heirs, loyal nobles, traitor nobles, and unknown third parties involved here."

[AGar]
sighed, rubbing his face with the palm of his hand. "Once again, I have to come in to right the wrong opinions," he groaned. "
[David Xanatos]
is obviously lying, he overreacted to
[SleepyKrew]
's obvious gambit."

"Okay, everyone needs to stop, take a breather," interrupted
[gandalf5166]
. "People should stop claiming their klan allegiances, it only serves to confuse people. And most of you will be lying anyways."

"
[David Xanatos]
is loyal to the Crown. Anyone who vote for his banishment is a traitor, fools," cut in
[whispersilk]
, who had long been silent.

"Hmm..." grunted
[StrangerCoug]
, scratching his chin. "Something about
[David Xanatos]
seems off, but I can't quite place it.
[Otolia]
is a fool. But
[Shinki] is a devious, opportunistic manipulator." Even though alternative opinions began arising at more delegates spoke up, the warring factions advocating banishment of either [/i][David]
or
[SleepyKrew]
continued to argue.

"You're such a stupid
scheisser
,
[David]
! Because of you,
[kdowns]
revealed the forces he had at his disposal!"
[SleepyKrew]
shouted, furious.

"No, I think I just had a moment of stupidity," muttered
[kdowns]
, barely audible. "Nothing we need to wor-"

"What more do I need to say to convince you, you idiot!"
[David Xanatos]
yelled. "I AM MORAN ARGELEV, RIGHTFUL HEIR TO THE THRONE."

[SleepyKrew]
huffed in digust and rolled his eyes. "You and a couple hundred others. Why should we believe you?"

"You know what? I think I have a good idea," interrupted
[samantha97]
. "We get rid of
[SleepyKrew]
. It's win-win."
[SleepyKrew]
and
[samantha97]
promptly engaged in a heated exchange of opinions, broken only when
[SleepyKrew]
threw up his hands in concession.

"Okay, FINE! Is this what you want?" he shouted. "I'm the commander of the entire Sky Fleet! And if you want to provoke our wrath, I dare you to try!"

The
Beran
sat on the Burning Throne, silently chuckling to himself as he watched the entertaining display.

The theme's time period would be something like the 1920s. The Great War is pretty much WWI. Technology is more advanced in some areas, less advanced in others.

Spoiler: Daykill
[SleepyKrew]
called over a steward, who promptly responded and approached him. "I need you to get my aide," he said to the steward. The man gave him a puzzled look. "Sir, the
Beran
has given express orders that this court is a closed session," the steward said. Sighing heavily in frustration,
[SleepyKrew]
pulled a small pistol from his uniform. "I said, 'bring me my aide.'" The steward nodded and walked back to the double doors, followed by
[SleepyKrew]
, pistol concealed but ready. The steward beckoned out the door to another and asked him to fetch the aide. A few minutes later, he entered, hefting a large, boxy radio set on his back.

"
Herr
?" he asked, giving a brief Imperial salute.

"Get me the flagship,"
[SleepyKrew]
growled. The aide dialed up the frequency and handed him the mouthpiece. "Captain? You have the intelligence report? Good. Where did
[samantha97]
come from to attend this conference? Mos Morrell? Yes, she's a traitor, and her benefactors are traitors as well. Bomb their forces into oblivion. Don't question it!"
[SleepyKrew]
hung up the mouthpiece and beckoned for his aide to leave. He gave the steward a scowl before he rejoined the crowd, narrowing his eyes and shaking his head, putting a finger to his lips.

Anoria

Columns of black-uniformed soldiers, bearing the sigil of House Morrell, marched along the beaten highway towards Mos Anor. Riding a horse and attended by an entourage at its head, Domarch Arvek Morrell studied the reports brought to him by aides, detailing troop movements from Burgundy, Tyrannia, and Ralland. "
Herr
, have you decided yet?" asked an aide.

"There are many claimants, of course. But I hold more stock in this Moran. I believe his forces are moving from Tyrannia. We must ally with any loyalists in Mos Anor and seeks to hold back the oncoming forces from north and east," Morrell replied. A short column of armored motorcars coughed as they rumbled by.

"Can we trust Morvanus?"

Morrell looked up from the report. "I have never doubted Terran's loyalty in the past, but-" Something in the sky caught his eye.

The skyships appeared as if from nowhere, huge grey frames sillouetted black against the evening sky. The phoenix of the Imperium was emblazoned in red upon their sides. Even as dozens began to blot out the setting sun, more dozens began to appear. And more. And more. Morrell's jaw dropped. "That's the
entire
Sky Fleet," he sputtered. "What's Sturmengard playing at?"

"Perhaps they're here to help us?" his aide suggested.

"Sturmengard would never dispatch the entire Fleet from Orogoth. It's too dangerous. No, there's something else going-"

Without warning, the black blobs above became engulfed in orange-red flares of flame. The ground shook before they even heard the deafening thunder of a thousand guns. The column scattered before the barrage - the vast majority of the soldiers of House Morrell were vaporized beneath the unstoppable force of the Sky Fleet.

The Throne Room

The double-doors flew open and a frantic steward rushed across the hall, heavy footsteps reverberating loudly off the walls. Approaching the
Beran
, panting, the steward handed him a slip of paper. Reading it, the
Beran
's expression quickly turned from somber to fury. He stood from the Throne and glared at the crowd. "THIS," he bellowed, crumpling and shaking the slip of paper above his head, "is a wire from Mos Anor. Arvek Morrell's forces were marching south to defend this city." He cleared his throat. "The entire Sky Fleet appeared out of nowhere and annihilated his forces. It is unknown if Morrell himself survived. What I want to know is: WHO AUTHORIZED THIS?!"

The entire hall remained silent.

Hmmm, what I might do for votecount flavor in the future is alternate between what I've been doing (dramaticizing in-game events) and random setting elaboration (ie bios, brief histories, whatever)

Hey, I'm done elaborating on that subject. I can say the House Argelev is the Town, but I can't mod-confirm the alignments of players, and that's pretty much what you're asking me to do.

Okay this is starting to get ridiculous.

You guys are not going to find out who is what alignment from the flavor. I've either left it totally ambiguous or am outright lying about certain elements to keep roles secret. Do not take this as me being a bastard mod and lying to you about your own roles, I'm just saying that this flavor speculation is getting out of hand and will not solve anything.

If the speculation continues on the scale it's on now then I will move from "ambiguous" to "deliberately deceptive" in my mod flavor, and/or ban paraphrasing of role PM flavor altogether.

"What

. "I am the commander of the Third Legion, and we are loyal to the rightful heir."

[vezokpiraka]
snorted. "That can't be true. You yourself claimed you aren't a Loyalist, same as this so-called 'heir,'" he said. "We should execute these lying frauds and be done with it."

"I agree," said
[Empking]
. "This is obviously a Western plot to usurp the throne."

"What the

are you
scheissers
smoking?" asked
[David Xanatos]
, scowling. "Why would I need to confirm my loyalties TO MYSELF?"

"I'm with
[David]
on this one," agreed
[Otolia]
, nodding. "You're up to something,
[vezokpiraka]
."

"
Farfeck
,"
[gandalf5166]
cursed. "He has a damn point. If you're not a Loyalist,
you're
up to something."

"Bah," said
[Empking]
, throwing up his hands in resignation. "This sort of silly speculation about personal motives is just what our true enemies want: us squabbling amongst ourselves. I'm going to go with who I really think is a traitor instead of a hunch based on a technicality."

"Agreed. This is foolish, especially those accusing
[vezokpiraka]
," said
[Magua]
. "
[vezokpiraka]
is acting as he always has: foolishly. And any votes for him are foolish votes."

"What about
[Otolia?]
," asked
[Empking]
. "He claimed to be from Mos Forvar. He's obviously a traitor."

"Okay, first you go after
[monk]
for no reason, then you come after me?"
[Otolia]
shouted. "
Farfeck
. You're a traitor." The crowd was splitting into two different factions once again.

Sitting above them on the Burning Throne, the
Beran
chuckled quietly to himself.

Spoiler: Background
Avalon: Political Geography

The continent of Avalon has been at the center of World events for thousands of years, being the seat of advanced civilization, culture, and technological advancement. The political geography of Avalon today has its roots in the First Empire of the Duran, which exterminated many of Avalon's ancient ethnic groups and tribes while preserving or ignoring others, ultimately resulting in the formation of the nations that have endured to this day. The Duranic Imperium covers the vast majority of central Avalon, stretching form the Avalon Sea and Varannian Penninsula in the south to the Black Sea in the north, practically splitting the continent into two halves. In the West lies the Republic of Jukara, a representative democracy that has conflicted with the Duran for thousands of years, the roots of said conflict stem from ethnic wars and exterminations during the days of the First Empire, as well as major religious differences. Southwest of Jukara is the Confederation of Arkania, second-largest nation in the world and oldest representative democracy on the planet. Controlling vast amounts of land and even larger stockpiles of valuable natural resources, the isolationist Arkanians are the Imperium's fiercest economic competition (though they prefer to stay out of world affairs, until they interfere with their economic prosperity). West of Jukara, across the Bay of Benneria, lies the island nation of the same name, boasting the longest-lasting, unbroken monarchial line. Defeated in the Great War, both Jukara and Benneria have been wracked by economic depression and internal strife between socialist and nationalist political and paramilitary organizations. Arkania has not been as affected as her former allies, but is still plagued by the inevitable economic misfortunes that always follow defeat in such a long and brutal war.

In the East lies the Terran Empire, largest nation in the world. Though the Terrans possess strong ethnic and cultural ties to the Duran, the two nations have long been bitter enemies, with centuries of wars between them over the disputed border territories of Ralland and Terralon. Also defeated in the Great War, the Terran Empire has been split into many warring factions in an outright civil war, with socialists, nationalists, and royalists engaging in a battle royale for total control of the vast country. To the North, across the Black Sea, are various smaller, less powerful nation-states, the most notable of which is the Duranic ally of Starkain. A tough and gregarious people, the Starkish are descended from a race of marauders and raiders that terrorized the continent in the dark times after the fall of the First Empire, and are notorious for switching sides at a moment's notice. To the South, across the Avalon Sea, lies the continent of Troplica, the northern half of which is dominated by the endless Sand Seas. It is inhabited by smaller Malarite nation-states, although the penninsula in the northwestern region of the continent is home to the Antethian Empire, a steadfast and reliable ally of the Imperium.

No doubt many elements of this report may confuse the average reader. What is socialism? Nationalism? The Great War? Malarites? Duro-Jukaran religious differences? All will be explained in future reports.

Empking
has been lynched.

Spoiler: Lynch Scene
"This is insane," said
[Empking]
, looking at each of many faces glaring at him. His expression betrayed no panic. "You have this all wrong. I'm from IMI."

"What?" asked
[David Xanatos]
.

"Imperial Military Intelligence. I've been tasked by my superiors with investigating and rooting out the traitors in our midst,"
[Empking]
elaborated.

"
Farfeck
," cursed
[SleepyKrew]
. "Either you're lying or you're corrupt."

"Why would I lie at this point? You're all going to line me up against the wall and shoot me anyways!"
[Empking]
complained.

"TO SAVE YOUR OWN WORTHLESS SKIN!"
[SleepyKrew]
bellowed, enraged. "We should take this scum out and lynch him in the square! Who's with me?" He received a large number of grunts and shouts of approval.

On the Burning Throne, the
Beran
cleared his throat and held up a hand. At last, he stood up. "
Herr [Empking]
, there is a very great flaw in your story," he said.

"Flaw? There's not flaw in truth,"
[Empking]
replied, scowling.

"You see, I don't recall sending
military intelligence
to investigate
domestic
affairs," Sturmengard said, smirking. "And I personally know that
Herr
Golmak, director of IMI, would under no circumstances violate the jurisdiction of the
Relmpolizei
."

[Empking]
and the
Beran
stared at each other in silence for a few, long seconds. Then
[Empking]
muttered a curse and scrambled to grab something form inside his tunic at the same time that Sturmengard yelled for the guards.
[Empking]
aimed his pistol at the
Beran
and two shots rang out - then
[Empking]
was facedown on the floor in a pool of his own blood, and two uniformed soldiers of the Imperial Guard lowered their own rifles.

"Everyone here needs to stand back and make no sudden moves," said the
Beran
. He pointed at
[Empking]
's body. "Search him." The soldiers advanced cautiously, one keeping his weapon trained on the body at all times. The other flipped over the body and searched the clothing thoroughly.

"
Mein Herr
," said one, jerking a gilded chain from
[Empking]
's neck and holding it up. The
Beran]
descended from the Burning Throne and examined it.

"Kurmanov," he said, his scowl hardening. "And the Terran wolf." He swept his eyes around the hall and gave each of the remaining delegates a long, hard look. "I think we know who's behind some of the intrigues, then." He crushed the locket in his fist.

Day Two

Spoiler: Daybreak
"Open them up," ordered the
Beran
, spinning two fingers of his hand. The stewards promptly went to work at opening the shutters, allowing the sunlight of early dawn to stream into the dark throne room. The flames of the Burning Throne still burned brightly. Sturmengard sat down and stroked his chin, thinking. "Send in the captain of the Guard first," he ordered. The captain of the Imperial Guard's night watch was brought before him in minutes. "I heard shots in the night, and little alarm," the
Beran
boomed. He leaned forward and glared at the captain. "Why is that?"

"
Mein Herr
, it was b-beyond our control," the captain stuttered. "Three murders,
herr
, all within the same hours, and all with the perpetrators undetected."

"'Undetected,'" the
Beran
rolled his eyes. "Or aided and abetted?"

"Undetected,
herr
. I cannot imagine the
Guard
to have-"

"Traitors?" Sturmengard snorted. "I'm certain the Primarchs of old can attest to the Guard's loyalties." The
Beran
sighed and leaned back, crossing one leg over the other and relaxing. "Very well, give me the names and affiliations of the dead and I will attend to damage control. Steward! Send in the fools!"

Okay, I'm going to clarify something and hopefully this will put flavor speculation to rest. Some people got brief and vague mentions of certain flavorful factions in the setting in their role PMs. HOWEVER, this is why you shouldn't speculate based on the flavor - you are probably wrong. If every single one of you knew all the flavor that has been given out, you will still not have the full picture of how things are working. It will not work and you should not rely on flavor speculation at all.

Spoiler: Background
The First Empire

The First Empire, while not the oldest known civilization, is certainly the world's most pivotal. The name originates as being the "First Empire" of the Duran. Since the dawn of time, the Duran - then known as the "Iron Men" - were a collection of warlike tribes known as "klans," related only by race and otherwise constantly warring for dominance. Around 4000 BC, a figure known as Moran "the Eternal" united the klans behind his will and vision and forged an empire across the lands that are now known as The Heartlands and The Oldlands, founding the Valterran Dynasty. The Valterran Primarchs ruled for thousands of years, constantly expanding at the expense of various barbarian tribes. The relentless Duranic legions gave these tribes an ultimatum: Join Or Die. Those who joined were ultimately assimilated into the Empire, many of their traditions and customs actually blending into the Duranic culture as a whole; those who defied the legions were utterly exterminated. The Valterran Dynasty ended when the last of a series of incompetent Primarchs was overthrown in 1600 BC. By that time, the Empire had expanded into the Varannian Penninsula to the south (and to the isle of Katan in the Avalon Sea), to the River Thane in the north, the River Ander in the east, and the River Reik in the west.

The Amorus Dynasty succeeded to the throne after a brief civil war between the
Hause Superior
, ruling from approximately 1600-1300 BC. The Amorus Dynasty conquered many lands to the east, but ultimately found their undoing in the west, embroiled in a hundred-year conflict with the Juke (pronounced
yew-keh
) tribes. With House Amorus completely wiped out, the Moranus Dynasty rose to prominence. Instead of moving further west or east, the Moranus Primarchs look across the Avalon Sea to the continent of Troplica. Its northern reaches covered by the vast Sand Seas, Duranic settlers inhabited the fertile river valleys amongst the ruins of ancient, lost civilizations, ultimately reaching the Antethian Penninsula far to the west. After settling northern Troplica, the Moranus Dynasty focused on building the infrastructure of the now-vast Empire, beginning the construction of the famous greystone roads and works of architecture. Nevertheless, conquest is instilled into Duranic blood, and the last Moranus Primarchs plunged the legions into the wild western frontier once more. Around 700 BC, the last Moranus Primarch was assassinated in the infamous "Revolt of the Generals," and House Moranus was brutally exterminated by a treacherous conspiracy of generals and nobles.

The Empire's most brutal civil war followed. "General-Emperors" were crowned every day as they fought with each other and the nobles for control of the Empire. For six years the civil war was fought, until a brilliant and charmismatic young general named Kaesarian was crowned, and put the Empire on the road to recovery. Yet after only three years of rule the beloved new ruler was assassinated by an unknown faction, and the Empire plunged back into three more years of civil war until Belisarius Sarrius, known as "The Honorable," brokered peace between the warring factions and was declared Primarch by the Conclave. His successor, Valerian "the Ruthless," embarked on a brutal and merciless final subjugations of the Juke, showing no quarter and scorching the earth, kick-starting the millenia-long emnity that the two races would share for each other. In 476 BC, the Empire reached its height - spanning from the River Kolgar in the east to the Arkanian Outback and Etremian Ocean in the west; from the Black Sea in the north and the Troplican Sand Seas in the south. Why is the First Empire so important? Because, so early in the history of the world, the Duran had united the vast majority of the known world under one culture and one government. All other settled civilizations of the time - the Rez city-states, the Bennerian kingdoms, and the far eastern empires - were geographically isolated and even more internally divided.

Some of the greatest works of the Duran were contructed and/or founded during the Sarrius Dynasty. In the Year 0 the Belisarian Calendar that is still used today was instituted. Nevertheless by 18 CE the Sarrius Dynasty fell, victim to the "protection" of the Imperial Guards and the purse strings of disgruntled nobles. Primarchs lived and died on the whims of the Imperial Guard or Imperial Senate. The Vorbakan Dynasty was the last of the First Empire, lasting until its fall in 467 CE. What caused the fall of the First Empire? Decay in society led to decadence and the development of a caste system, dividing "Pureblood" Duran and conquered or assimilated barbarians into different classes of citizen. A caste system is a concept most despised by ancient and modern Duran alike. Reliance of barbarian mercenaries to guard the limitless frontiers ultimately led to various internal revolts among improperly assimilated barbarian cultures - in the 4th century CE, the Juke rebelled in the Great Rising, a wave of religious zealotry that disconnected more than a third of the Empire's territory. The economy was spiralling into ruin as more and more citizens sold themselves as debt-slaves to pay their mountain debts of decadence; slavery being another concept abhorred by the Duran. The fall of the First Empire is seen as tragic by romantics, but it was inevitable and necessary. In its waning years the First Empire had not pride, but hubris. Its richest citizens had not earned their many conforts and thus never felt the need to defend them.

Tired right now so I'm laying off the dramatization flavor for now.

Spoiler: Background
The Great War

The Great War (1903-1919), known to most as simply "The War," was the greatest conflict the world has yet seen, involving nations across Avalon and the world. The War was the product of decades of political machinations that formed complicated webs of alliances, most notably the Imperialist Pact between the Duranic Imperium, Antethian Empire, and Kingdom of Starkain; and the League of Free Nations, membership being the Terran Empire, Bennerian Empire, and Republic of Jukara. The War was sparked by recklessness, when a less-than-brilliant member of House Argelev decided to take a pleasure cruise near or in Jukaran territorial waters. The ensuing hostage crisis, in which both Jukara and the Duran refused to back down, spiralled into a race to mobilize forces.

Fighting on two fronts, the Imperium decided to take advantage of the shorter border with Jukara in the west and follow a "Terra First" strategy, capitalizing on well-known internal strife and corruption within the old empire. Launching a small-scale offensive in the west to shorten the frontline even further, the Imperium blunted Juke-Bennerian couteroffensives using multi-layered lines of trench fortifications while advancing into Terralon and Riev provinces in the east, avoiding the huge Terran defensive build-up in the long-contested territories of Ralland. When the Terrans moved two armies north to deal with Imperial advances in Terralon, the Duran suddenly and secretly swung south, splitting into two prongs. They managed to catch and encircle the Terran forces in a forest against a river near the small town of Metskyville, forcing them to surrender a very sizeable chunk of Terra's standing army. This victory allowed the Duran free range in Terralon, and by 1905 Riev fell to the relentless advance as well. Advancing from both north and south, bypassing the most hardened Terran defenses, the Duran embarked on a year-long campaign to take Ralland.

In the west, progress was slow and infamously brutal. Taking a leaf out of the Imperium's book, the League forces consolidated their gains by settling into opposing trench lines. Attacking was a brutal and bloody business, and battles were more often won by attrition, allowing the League a slight advantage over the Pact. By 1903, the Duranic Imperium outnumbered the populations of Jukara and Bennerian proper combined, but split against both them and Terra in th east, they were outnumbered 2 to 1 without Antethian aid. The Western Front shifted very little and very occasionally throughout the period of 1904-1911.

The Eastern Front, far larger in scale than in the west, was very fluid and shifted constantly. By 1907, the Imperium had made considerable advances, with Terralon, Ralland, and Riev all ceded to their control. Even with vast amounts of manpower on each side, the land was vast on such a scale that neither could form static lines of fortification, at least none that could not be simply bypassed. Even still, with Terran manpower gearing up for war and Duranic manpower split on two fronts, resistance hardened and advances became slower and more costly for years.

In 1909, a significant development in the war's progress was made. While both sides were roughly equal in naval size, the League enjoyed superiority due to the quality of Bennerian sailors, and thus the Red Straits, a vital supply line for the Duran to their colonies, was blockaded since the outbreak of war. The Straits of Rezelia, the only other access into the Avalon Sea, were held open only by the nearby Antethians. To combat League superiority on the surface, the Pact turned to submarine forces to disrupt League shipping and supply lines, engaging in unrestricted warfare against allied and even neutral countries supply Benneria and Jukara with food and war materials. Unfortunately, this categorization included the sleeping giant of Arkania, probably the largest economic and industrial powerhouse in the world at the time. In 1909, reacting to a Duro-Antethian submarine blockade of their major port of Citalia on the Avalon Sea, the Confederation of Arkania joined the war on the side of the League. With the inlcusion of such a large nation, the manpower ratio on the Western Front shifted to a lopsided 3 to 1, requiring Antethian troops to arrive in the trenches in force.

Realizing their desperate situation as the League's 1910 offensive into Tyrannia made significant gains, the Pact decided to turn up the pressure on the Terrans in the east. Launching a two-pronged offensive in the north and south, the Pact intended to take the vital warm-water ports of Terrograd on the Avalon Sea and Memnitz on the Black Sea, which would effectively cut off the Terran Empire from the aid supplied by their western allies. By 1912, Memnitz had fallen and Terrograd was under fire, its harbor facilities effectively shut down to traffic. With so much of its prime farmland in Ralland and Riev province under Pact control, the Terran leadership realized they faced a dangerous famine, which was the last thing their unstable regime needed. Thus, they pressured the League in the west to make more of a contribution. Attempting to take advantage of their great manpower advantage, the western allies targeted a bulging salient in the west and a major crossing over the River Reik into the Imperium's primary industrial region - the fortress city of Keiger. The target was sound, Keiger being the lynchpin of Pact defenses in the west, but the planning was shoddy, and the 1913-1914 battle that raged over that single city is best described in its own entry.

Nevertheless, the results of that battle won the war for one side, and from 1914-1919, new advances in military technology led to bloodier battles as regimes collapsed, armies advances, and millions of men died - all for the prestige of victory. By the end of The War, over 20 million people had died, with millions more scarred or crippled. House Argelev was almost completely wiped out in the male line, and regimes had fallen in Terra and Jukara. The world is primed to change.

"GUARDS!" the

bellowed. A squad of Imperial Guards rushed into the throne room, weapons readied. "Arrest this man!"

"NINE HUNDRED YEARS OF TYRANNY-"

The guards hesitated for a moment, then surrounded and siezed

Spoiler: Daybreak
On the Burning Throne, the

"It appears I dozed off," said Sturmengard, rubbing his face. "What news?"

Stepping onto the Throne's elevated platform, the steward had an uneasy look on his face, licking his lips and breathing deeply. "Tidings from Mos Kaligon,
Herr Beran
," he said, handing Sturmengard a telegram. The
Beran
's expression quickly changed from drowsy to grim.

"Stifle news of this," he said, crumpling the note. "I have to do some serious damage control. I will see none of the delegates today."

Day Four

Spoiler: Daybreak
Leaning forward on the Burning Throne, the
Beran
rubbed as his forehead, hands covering his face. He sighed as the great doors heaved open and the inevitably-arriving steward strode across the hall. "What news?" he asked, leaning back again and clearing his throat.

"Two bodies were found in the palace's telegraph station. It was Miran Valterran and his aide."

"What were they doing in there?"

"I can't say for certain. Contacting someone, of course," the steward said. The
Beran
made a strange gesture and expression and then waved for him to continue. "There was a major disturbance in the family parlor. By the time guardsmen arrived they found the
Terrarch
Blackmore of the Third Legion dead, near a weapon, and a bloodstain by the door. It appears another body was moved,
herr.

"Was that body one of the other representatives?"

"No,

The
Beran
groaned. "They're picking us apart one by one. I want
answers

Spoiler: Background
Political Movements

The twentieth century, only twenty years in, has already been a time of great change in Avalon. Monarchies - and the remnants of monarchies past - are being swept away. Traditional religious and political thought are being replaced by newer philosophies, more conservative and liberal on the sliding scales. The three dominant political philosophies - in practice and on the horizon - are currently Nationalism, Socialism, and Republicanism. Republicanism is by far the most moderate of the three. It found a home in Arkania in the mid-18th century, and Arkania has been its bastion ever since. The more moderate, Republican governments in Benneria and Jukara have either collapsed or been thrown into great turmoil since their defeat in the Great War. Hordes of returning soldiers, laid off from the military and traditional jobs lost while away at war, formed or were absorbed into dangerous organized crime syndicates, making their living illegally where they could not by letter of the law. The Jukaran government has already collapsed to revolutionaries; the Terran Empire faces a three-way civil war; Bennerian and Arkanian law enforcement struggles to combat this new wave of crime. Nevertheless, Republicanism represents a midway point in political philsophy - more progressive than the monarchies of old, but not nearly as zealous as the revolutionary ideals that arise from the ashes of the Great War.

Nationalism has its roots in - where else? - the Duranic Imperium. The Duran have, over centuries, developed a strange "national persecution complex," being the center of many wars and opposing coalitions over the course of its history. Combining with the rather unusual "assimilation ideal" of Duranic culture, Duranic-flavored Nationalism promotes the strength of the
Relm
's military, industry, and society against the enemies all around that seek to destroy it. As such, it has promoted - and been heavily associated with - autocracy. The growing Nationalist Party within the Duranic political structure believes in returning the position of Primarch to once again having total power, rather than generally being an ineffective figurehead wielded by the Senatorial
Primkonsular
. There is also a strong emphasis on "racial superiority" - the drive to conquer other peoples and assimilate the best parts of traits of their cultures, reminiscent of the First Empire's ancient philosophy.

Nationalism is also very prevalent in the Terran Empire, where it is one of the three major factions in its raging civil war. Terran-flavored Nationalism differs from the Duran. Though they suffer from the same "nation persecution complex" - a sad result of bitter defeat in the Great War - the Terrans believe more in the superiority of the Terran race and culture over all others, most especially the Duran. The Terran Nationalist Party believes in total party control of the state's military and industry - another product of the long, corrupt monarchy that was recently overthrown - over total autocracy. The Party would mobilize this military and industry against the state's enemies - the Duran, of course - and cleanse the world and Terran race of this grave national and ethnic threat.

Socialism is the second revolutionary ideal of the twentieth century, the product of nineteenth century "progressive" philosophers. Socialists believe in collective control of government and industry by society itself, hence its name. Socialism is the philosophy most associated with revolution, that revolution being by the lower classes to throw off the rich, monarchist oppressors. Socialist thought was quashed in the latter half of the nineteenth century, but the ideal endured, and has recently found a new home in Jukara, where Socialist revolution overthrew the republican government. It is yet to be seen whether Socialist philosophy will lead to true social and economic progress.

Spoiler: Background
World Religions

In Avalon, there are four major religions, each similar to each other while at the same time being very different. Religious conflict is the root of the historic Duro-Jukaran emnity, and holy wars ravaged the continent for centuries during the Kingdom Age. These four religions are Patrianity, Umbricism, Malarism, and Dualism.

Patrianity is the oldest of these religions, and has its origins in the Duranic Imperium, before even the days of the First Empire. Patrianity involves a "holy trinity" of elements - fire, blood, and iron. These elements are symbolic in nature, as demonstrated by the creeds "The Blood fuels the Fire, the Fire forges the Iron, the Iron spills the Blood" and "Forged in Fire, Won by Iron, Earned in Blood." These three elements are extremely prevalent in Duranic national symbolism and philosophy, especially fire. The Duran believe in the nature of the "spirit," and believe that Fire, in burning a body, releases the spirit from the body. The other most important part of Patrianity is the belief in spirits, and that the spirits of the dead watch over, guide, and guard the living, arising to do so if they must. Patrianity is so named because the spirits of the dead are the "patrons" of the living. Important religious parts of a Duran's life include the Rite of Passage - the passage into adulthood, in which a boy undergoes the "baptism by fire," receiving his own iron, spilling his own blood, and being branded with fire. There is also cremation, as all Duran are burned after death - it is believed that burial traps the spirit within the body, making burial of a Duran an unforgivable slight. Patrianity is of course prevalent in the Imperium, but is also the largest religion in the Terran Empire, and a prominent force north of the Black Sea.

Umbricism originated in Jukara, and has long clashed with Patrianity. Whereas fire, and therefore light, is a major element in Patrianity, darkness and shadows are a major element of Umbricism. The Jukaran religion is the source of their unorthodox matriarchal society. Umbrics worship a single goddess named Illeana. This "Shadow Goddess" weaves a web of schemes and intrigue from the darkness, and over time the history of Illeana has evolved as her followers have evolved. It is now commonly held as canon that Illeana was originally the consort of Moran the Eternal, the first Duranic Primarch, and that the two came to blows over the evolution of Duranic culture and society and thus went their separate, hostile ways - unusual, considering there is no scientific evidence the Juke and the Duran ever came in contact with each other until after the First Empire was founded. The constant struggle between Umbricism and Patrianity has imprinted upon the overall culture of Avalonian societies - the eternal struggle between light and dark, for example, that is so prevalent in literature. Umbricism is the only religion of Jukara, and is only a minority elsewhere in the world.

Malarism is a relatively young religion in comparison to Patrianity and Umbricism, but it does not lack in zealous fervor. Malarism has its origins in the deserts of southeast Avalon, where nomadic tribes suddenly united under one banner to embark on a terrifying wave of conquest. Today, Malarism is the most widespread single religion in the world, covering southeast Avalon, much of northern and eastern Troplica, and all of Estlon. Malarism is the belief in the divinity of the "Malar," or "great one." Also known as "the Undying Savior," the Malar is prophecized as the one to lead His followers to Paradise, which can only occur once all men are condemned (in death) or redeemed (in worship). The Malar appears to be more of a spirit force than a single man - even as host bodies die, there will always be an incarnation of the Malar; new incarnations are viewed as "possessed" by some force by outside observers. Malarites, the followers of the Malar, are perhaps the most zealous and fanatical of any religion, always seeking to convert heretics and non-believers to the cause - often by force.

Lastly, Dualism is the religion of western Avalon, combining elements of Umbricism and Patrianity. Dualism is the belief in the dual nature of all things - where there is light, there must also be darkness; but there is always a little darkness in light, and light in darkness, as there is evil in good and good in evil. Dualism has always been a very secular religion, often classified more as a philosophy, and thus Benneria and Arkania have actually avoided much of the religious wars the ravaged Jukara, the Imperium, Terra, and the Malarite empires during the Kingdom Age.

Spoiler: Background
The Battle of Keiger

The Battle of Keiger (May 20, 1913-July 4, 1914) was the most pivotal battle of the Great War, and is often called "the greatest battle ever fought." One and a half million men from both sides died over the course of the battle, with millions more wounded or captured, making it the deadliest battle in world history, and likely the deadliest to ever occur. As 1913 came around, the Terran Empire was putting severe pressure on the western allies to take decisive action on the Western Front, as the Duranic campaigns of 1910-1912 had cut off their warmwater ports of Memnitz and Terrograd, soon to cause a severe and horrible famine. The western allies made a bold plan to cross the River Reik into one of the Imperium's major industrial centers. Only three major crossings could host the breakthrough they planned, and all of which were heavily defended by fortress cities, ringed by trenches and massive, impregnable bunker complexes. The city of Keiger was one of them, doubly serving as a bulging salient and the lynchpin of the Imperium's southern defenses. It was an all-or-nothing strategy - if the League offensive failed, they would have squandered their large manpower advantage as well as valuable times of warm weather. If they succeeded, they would occupy the Imperium's largest industrial region and collapse the Duranic defense of Tyrannia.

The battle proper began on May 20, with a massive artillery bombardment and infantry offensive. Though they gained much ground initially, Duranic defense quickly hardened, and thousands began dying for each meter of ground. However, attrition worked in the League's favor, and by August 1913, the first of three rings of fortresses wasin League hands. However, a new Duranic commander had risen to command the defense of Keiger - Garen Marburg. He adopted a new strategy - while maintaining the morale-boosting mantra of "They shall not pass!", Marburg opted to preserve the lives of his men instead of fighting for every meter of soil, withdrawing his troops from doomed positions before saturating them withn artillery. He vowed to "bleed the League's armies white" - using the League's manpower advantage and strategy of grinding attrition against them.

Even still, the League continued a slow, grinding advance. The Duran began to fight dirty. Though having seen limited use since 1905, gas was used profligately against the League, who after suffering heavy initial losses responded in kind. Abandoned positions would be booby-trapped; lost strategic positions and ground would be pre-sighted and zeroed for artillery; elaborate systems of tunnels were dug in secret by the Duran, allowing them to appear even in previously-secured positions without warning. The fall rains that plague central Avalon made a miserable mess of the battlefield - wounded men would drown in the mud. The League's investment began mounting very, very quickly, and paying no dividends - but they had committed to much to turn back now, empty-handed.

By November 1913, only the last line of older fortresses stood between League forces and the city itself. Fort Mordet - a massive, impregnable relic from the 17th century of unmatched engineering - became the focus of League efforts. A shock attack surrounded the fortress and trapped the defender; after three days of siege, the defenders were starved but remained defiant. Pounding the walls to dust with massed artillery, the League stormed the fort. Fighting continued for three straight days, with each room, tunnel, and bunker fought for. At the end of the fight, the barely three doze remaining Duranic soldiers finally surrendered. With the fort taken, the other fortresses on the west bank of the river could not be held feasibly, and so Marburg withdrew into the city and prepared for the most brutal urban warfare ever recorded.

The battle for the city itself continued for six months. Only able to withdraw to the massive Citadel - the final defense on the east bank of the river - Duranic troops fought tooth and nail for every room, house, and street. The League pushed as hard as they could, even taking the bridge over the river briefly in April - but they could not take the Citadel. On May 12, 1914, the Duran made a decisive attack against the League in the city. Utilizing experimental "storm tactics" and sending small, heavily armed squads of elite troops under cover of bombardment to punch holes in the League lines, a breakthrough was made and the banner was raised over Hill 95 just outside the city limits - the banner-raising was actually caught on camera, and is the most iconic image of the War for the Imperium. Now the Duran went on the offensive, on a more limited scale. The League no longer had enough reserves to commit to the meatgrinder, especially with the threat of counteroffensive looming all across the front. The entire Imperial Sky Fleet - a massive fleet of skyships mounted with heavy guns - made an appearance and saturated the ground with high-caliber artillery, allowing for the Duran to take considerable ground, the only full, single mobilization of the Sky Fleet ever. On July 4, 1914, Fort Mordet and its ring of forts was retaken and reoccupied, and major combat operations in the region officially ended. The League had squandered millions of troops and handed the initiative to the Duran - the tide of the war had turned, decisively.

Spoiler: Background
Imperial Politics

The Duranic Imperium maintains a highly unusual system of government in comparison to its peers, it being a hybrid of traditional elements from the First Empire and modern republicanism. Republicanism took hold in Avalon during the 18th century, with the Arkanian Civil War overthrowing the old monarchy and replacing it with a representative and electoral system of government. From then a wave of Republicanism spread across western Avalon, with Benneria adopting a constitutional monarchy - a constitutional republic nominally governed by a monarch - and Jukara overthrowing its theocratic oligarchy and installing an Arkanian-style legislature. Though the power of the Imperial Primarch had diminished over the course of centuries, with power generally being held by his klan and closest advisors, the power still remained in the position, even if it was not exercised. However, when Valerian Argelev IX - known as "the Bold" - ascended to the throne at the twilight of the 18th century, he exercised that power, capitalizing on a series of defeats suffered by the Imperium to stir Imperial nationalism and militarism. From 1805-1835, Avalon was plunged into a series of on-off wars known as the Valerianic Wars, in which a constantly-changing coalition of major powers attempted to bring the resurgent Imperium to heel. When Valerian was finally forced to abdicate in 1835, it was the departure of the Imperium's last true autocrat. With western influence, republicanist reforms began to gain momentum in the Imperium, and the weak-willed and lazy new Primarch did little to prevent them.

However, the Imperium differs greatly from the western republics in that these reforms came about without the authoring of a constitution. Harkening back to the old days of the First Empire, an Imperial Senate was created, calling representatives from the many regions of the Imperium (usually drawn from the noble klans) and giving the body the power to make laws and tax the citizenry with only the signature of the Primarch's approval. To balance the power, the Primarch lost the power to levy taxes and propose laws himself. The Senators are elected officials, and senatorial elections follow the model of the Bennerians, with citizens voting for a political party and seats being given to the parties in proportion to the percentage of votes received. The Imperium do not officially have a separate "Judicial Branch" in the sense the Arkanians do, but an impartial court system has been separate from the power of the nobles and Primarch for centuries, and essentially serves the same purpose even if it is not an official organization of the new government.

The position of Primarch remains relatively unchanged - while his power is significantly reduced as an autocrat, the position and traditions that come with it are unchanged. Since the dawn of the First Empire, the Primarch has, technically, been an elected official. After the death of every Primarch, a ceremony known as "The Conclave of Nobles" or simply "Conclave" is held. This ceremony is held behind locked doors, and only the members of the ruling house and a select few outsiders are allowed to attend. The
Beran
of the late Primarch's privy seal attends and is given a vote; other non-klan attendees include the patriarchs of the other
Hause Superior
, as well as the very rare "honored guest." Conclave is presided over by a randomly-chosen, anonymous "Arbiter," who presides over debate, holds votes, and serves as a tiebreaking vote if necessary; this position was created during the Kingdom Age in response to the original holder of the position, the
Beran
himself, often being won over to one faction through one method or another. The identity of the Arbiter is possibly the most closely-guarded secret in the Imperium. The only possible candidates for the Crown are males of House Argelev who declare themselves as candidates, and all attendees vote for their candidate of choice. When one candidate receives 67% of the vote, Conclave is closed and the winning candidate becomes the new Primarch.

Nevertheless, the Imperial political system has often been accused as corrupt, and these accusations are not completely unfounded. Without a supreme constitution, the laws of the land are extremely flexible, and often bent to favor whatever party needs it. Despite elections being fairly held, the majority of power is still held by the nobles as it has been for millenia, with the vast majority of "acceptable" political candidates coming from the noble klans. It is in this way that the Arkanians feel their "candidate-centric" electoral system is superior to the Juke-Bennerian "proportional" system, in that the voters always know who they are sending to Ecthelion - whereas the Duran are subject to the whims of the party leaders. Without that supreme constitution, there's no telling how the laws of the Imperium can be bent to favor anyone - including the Primarch.

There are many major political parties in the Imperium now, the most prominent being the pro-republicanism Republicans, moderate Federalists, pro-tradition Imperialists, and the right-wing Nationalists. The Socialist Party has been banned in the Imperium since the attempted revolutions of the 1860s. The Senate is currently made up of 8% Republicans, 38% Federalists, 42% Imperialists, 10% Nationalists, and 2% minor parties.

"

"...

The

"

"It's not that I didn't hear you, fool! This...this is unprecedented. How can this happen on MY WATCH?!" Sturmengard clutched his chin and stared at the floor. "Remove the Imperial Guard from the premises. If they are not corrupt then they are simply the most incompetent iteration in our history."

"But-"

"Send a message to the Brotherhood. Their representative might be dead, but we need them here, desperately." The two stewards gave each other confused, skeptical looks. "DO IT!" the

Spoiler: Background
Duranic
Klan
Culture

Since the earliest known Duranic societies, the Duran have lived in units known as
klans
, an extended "family" of blood and adoptive relations. These klans differ wildly in size, with some being no larger than the immediate "family" unit that is used in Western cultures, and others having the population of hundreds. Duranic society has always been a patriarchal society, with each klan headed by a patriarch - most often one of the older and more dominant of the males - and the authority and prestige granted by that distinction being passed down through the future males of the klan. Property is owned and inherited by males over females, as are formal titles such as those of nobility or royalty. The recent succession crisis surrounding House Argelev is a case in point - though dozens of females remain living in the klan, none may inherit the title of Primarch. In the event of a lack of males for succession to a title, claims by rival klans are often made to the title - for some lesser titles, the title merely goes to the strongest claimant, while in the case of the Iron Crown the title's new recipient is decide via formal process, such as the Conclave of Nobles.

How do klans form and grow? Klans are often rooted in an immediate family of blood relations, growing by natural reproduction and adoption. As opposed to the family units of the West, Duranic klans almost always live altogether on large tracts of property, very rarely splitting up and spreading out as those families do. An integral part of Duranic philosophy is the strong belief in individual potential, and the natural right each person has to individual liberty - it is a great offense for a Duran to restrict the liberties of another Duran without cause. The Duran believe in strength, and that evolves into what foreigners call the "assimilation philosophy" - a "pureblooded," restrictively-bred race is always severely limited in its strengths; because all individuals have potential, that translates into all different races having their own strengths and weakness. Therefore, in order for the Duran to be the strongest people in the world, these strengths must be absorbed and bred into the race, with the weaknesses excluded. This philosophy is foundation of klan adoption - it is an easy and simple process, designed for klans to become stronger through absorption of different, unique strengths and weaknesses offered by the cultures of different klans and, ultimately, races. It is an area where the Duran greatly differ from the xenophobic, "purist" philosophies of the rest of Avalon - whereas anywhere else the slogan would be "We must expel the weakness from our people!" the slogan in the Imperium would be "We must seek out the strengths of the world and make them our own!" This is a socio-cultural philosophy known as "assimilative eugenics" to prominent sociologists.

The result of this culture stemming from klans is rather unique - though civil and political rights are often curbed in the name of security, in contrast to the republics of the West, the Duranic Imperium is, strangely enough, the most tolerant country in the world. The Imperium is very similar to the Confederation of Arkania in the regard that both are seen as a haven for the "self-made man," the ideal that with enough effort anyone can rise to any position - after all, House Argelev was founded by an extraordinary young man...who happened to be the son of a poor blacksmith. Despite the strong belief in individual liberty and self-determination, the influence of klans - many of which evolved into powerful noble houses - and the reality of being surrounded by enemies bent on the Imperium's destruction has also bred a strong sense of collectivism. Duranic citizens are probably closer to each other on an individual level than the citizens of other nations in Avalon, simply because of being forced to rely on each other for survival constantly over the course of millennia. The principle of banding together to defeat the enemies all around is personified in Duranic art throughout history. It is also why there is such strong respect and reverence given to the concept of duty, sacrifice, and service - the military is perhaps the most sacred organization in the Imperium, simply because all Duran must stand together if they are to survive. The sense of brotherhood, comradery, and interpersonal reliance is instilled into military recruits from day one.

After all, the motto of the Imperium is, of course, "To Each His Due, From All His Duty"

Spoiler: Background
Ethnicity and Modern Avalon

The ethnicities of modern Avalon are a far cry to their ancient counterparts, this being due to the thorough efforts of the Duran of the First Empire in assmilating those they conquered - or exterminating them. In fact, the Duranic race as they were has almost completely died out - the number of klans that can still claim "Pureblood" status can be counted on one hand, not that the "title" grants any great prestige. The Pureblood Duran can be identified by their uniform blue eyes and jet-black hair, a combination seen nowhere else in the world. Modern Duran are more varied in their superficial traits, but the established look retains the black hair and adds steel-grey eyes to the mix. As a result of their heritage and "assimilation" philosophy, the Duran are the most diverse and mixed race in Avalon today, and practice the most tolerant domestic policies towards those of other ethnicities and nationalities (save for Juke, who are almost universally unwelcome in the Imperium). As many have noted, it is quite a strange paradox that the worst enemy of Republicanism...is also the most racially tolerant.

The Juke stand in stark contrast to the Duran, their interracial interraction and breeding having been focused inward throughout their history due to their geopolitics. Both the Juke and Duran mutually refuse to cross-breed or even interract socially in general, and with the highly xenophobic, isolationist nations of Benneria and Arkania as its other major neighbors it is unsurprising that the Juke have isolated themselves as a race for so long. The Juke have been strongly associated with red or auburn hair, and if a Juke does not share that color it is typically a lighter shade of brown. Juke eye color is almost universally green, with no other major ethnicity in Avalon sharing that color. A product of their milennia-long struggle with the Duran and the xenophobia of their neighbors, the Juke have adopted a xenophobic approach to foreign and domestic policy as well. Duran and practitioners of Patrianity are strongly persecuted in Jukara, and other ethnicities from the eastern half of the continent are met with coldness due to their Duranic-influenced cultural roots. Nevertheless, Jukaran citizens enjoy considerable civil-political freedoms, and due to their long support against the Duranic menace, Bennerians and Arkanians (and westerners in general) are warmly welcomed by the Juke.

On the other side of Avalon, the Terran are more than a simple nationality. The Terran steppes were once the site of titanic struggles between many varied ethnicities - the Terrans, Kolgar, Memnar, Derran, Rallish, and Keljaks are simply the names of the largest races, all lumped under the category of "Terran." Whereas the Duran assimilated the races they conquered, the Terrans merely asserted dominance over their conquered territories - expelling those, such as the Keljaks, who resisted their dominance. Terra has a long history of mistreating its minorities, a practice often attacked by the Duran and the west. Despite this, the Nationalist faction of the ongoing Terran Civil War has often declared the base of its platform to be "Pan-Terranism" - the unity of all the varied Terran races to work together as one to overthrow the western oppressors. As for the individual ethnicities - the Terrans originate from Kruskova itself; the Kolgar populate the regions surrounding the river of the same name; the Memnar inhabit Duran-occupied Terralon and the region adhering to the great northern port of Memnitz; the Rallish, long caught between the struggles of the Imperium and Terra, live in war-torn Ralland; and the Derran are a hybrid race, once part of the First Empire, of Duran and Terran, centered on the major city of Riev.

In the north, peace has only been a recent innovation. Byranid, Ivolian, Thane, Stark, and Cadian have long struggled for hegemony. The blonde-haired and blue-eyed northmen are a proud people, and take little stock in the weakness of others. Cadians have been caught between their northern heritage and the Duran, resulting in the Norcadians separating from their breathren, who remain united with the Imperium. After the fall of the First Empire, Thanes made a dispora across the Black Sea coast from their penninsular home - though Thaneland is part of the Imperium, Thanish minorities are common all across the north. The Stark have always been the most dominant of the northern races, notorious for the maritime raids across the Black Sea, into Terra, across to Benneria, and even into northern Continua. The Kingdom of Starkain is renowned for constantly switching allegiances - during one war siding with Benneria, another with the Terrans, and most recently with the Duran during the Great War.

Across the Avalon Sea is the continent of Troplica. Colonized by the First Empire, then conquered by the advancing tide of the Malarites during the Kingdom Age, the northern coast is split along dual lines. The Geptans and Treplicians on the eastern half are strongly Malarite, and draw ethno-cultural influences from the desert people of Sarthia and Brenkalla. On the inverse are the Freeden, the core ethnicity of the Antethian Empire. The Freeden were conquered by the First Empire only after a long struggle, and thus the two races gained mutual respect for each other. Though allegiances have changed throughout the changes of politics in history, the Duranic Imperium and Antethian Empire have long been steadfast allies for each other, and as a result Antethia maintains heavy Duranic cultural influences, though the genetic and superficial composition of both races are quite different as a result of their respective environments.

The last major ethnic sect on Avalon is in the west itself - Arkania and Benneria. The two have long been isolationist, most often fighting each other rather than the rest of the world, but during recent centuries both nations have diverged. In Benneria, the Kingdom Age was dominated by the great wars between the island's two primary ethnic groups - the fierce, proud, and warlike Norlanders in the north, and the more cunning, intellectual, and ambitious Bennerians in the south. Though the mutual emnity remains, the two groups united with each other midway during the Colonial Age, preferring to compete with the rest of the world rather than with each other. The result of the union was one of the largest colonial empires in the world, and as time marched on the Bennerian Empire has become less and less isolationist, now the most prominent western nation on the world stage; though the xenophobic, "holier-than-thou" attitude of the Bennerians and Norlanders still remains in strength. Arkania has been referred to as a "melting pot" of culture and ethnicity; this is due to its vast size, and the variety of races originating in its arid plains region known as the "Outback." Tolerance for its own components has come slowly over time, but now Arkanian citizens enjoy the most civil and political freedoms over any other nation in the world; however, Arkania is probably also the most racist nation in the world, having little tolerance for foreigners such as Bennerians, Jukarans, and their dark-skinned colonial subjects just across the Bay of Rezelia in Troplica. With its defeat in the Great War, it is unlikely that the powerful but isolationist nation will ever emerge as a great power on the world stage - though it certainly has the capacity to become one.

Spoiler: Background
Language and Avalon

The continent of Avalon can be divided into three primary language groups: Standard, Neuran, and Malarite. These language groups contain many sub-groups, all of which have evolved over time. The current language divisions in Avalon are a direct result of three concepts, each pertaining to their respective groups - Bennerian continental imperialism during the late Kingdom Age and early Colonial Age, the assimilation-extermination conduct of the First Empire, and the spread and conquests of Malarism between the fall of the First Empire and the Kingdom Age.

Standard, though perhaps not the native language of the largest percentage of the world's population, is nevertheless the primary spoken and written language of business and academia. Standard is the official language of Arkania and Benneria, as well as other, smaller nations in western Avalon. It varies very little beyond differences in Bennerian and continental dialects, such as Norlander (Bennerian), Canburite (Bennerian), Outback (Arkanian), Dominican (Continental), and Citalian (Arkania) to name a few. Standard overtook the native languages of Norland and Arkania, the latter people originally spoke their own language known as Rezelian. Over time, the ability to communicate with Bennerians caused Standard to supercede Rezelian as Arkania's spoken language.

Neuran is perhaps the most varied language group in the world, and has a storied history compared to Standard. Neuran is the official language of the Duranic Imperium, its name being a abbreviation for
Neu-Duran
. Though it shares the name, Neuran the language is only a part of the language group. To understand the spread of the most common native language of the peoples of Avalon, one must udnerstand its origins. The First Empire originally spoke in Heitran, or
Heit-Duran
, a much more structured language based around verb declension and noun conjugation. Heitran's influence is still felt, however, in common Duranic names and surnames, many of which still retain Heitranic customs such as the -us and -a suffixes for male and female respectively. As the First Empire spread, and assimilated many cultures (while exterminating others), Heitran began to change. Local dialects began to form and vary widely from culture to culture, and by the dawn of the Kingdom Age Heitran had died out as a native language, only spoken by clergy, academia, and nobility. Local dialects mostly superceded it based on culture group, but in the former Empire Altran - for Alt-Duran - became the official language of many principalities. Altran was a hybrid of Heitran and multiple assimilated cultures - whereas Heitran would be perhaps unrecognizable to Neuran speakers of today, Altran bears at least a half-similarity. Altran was the primary language of the Imperium until the mid-Colonial Age, when Arko-Bennerian overseas imperialism, and the subsequent rise of Standard, led to the Reforms of Mos Anor. Standard had already begun to influence Jukara and the western provinces of the Imperium, idioms and words creeping into local dialects. As a result of the Reforms of Mos Anor, Neuran was formed - a heavily "Standardized" new variation on Altran. Neuran quickly took hold in the Imperium and remains its official language to this day.

The second major sub-group under Neuran would be Jukaran. The Juke mixed Heitranic influences into their native tribal language, and thus something of a hybrid was formed. Though many words are different, and their accents and phonetics sound quite different from their Neuranic counterparts, to a speaker of Standard or Malarite languages it can often be difficult to tell Jukaran and Neuran apart. Modern Jukaran maintains its Heitranic influences, more so than Neuran itself, but it was also heavily Standardized during the Colonial Age.

The third and largest major sub-group is Terran. The original First Empire had pushed its frontiers rather far into the Terran steppes, as far as Riev and the Kolgar River, and thus the local cultures were assimilated or exterminated, and Heitran heavily influenced the local language. As opposed to Jukara, however, the Terran ethnicities took far more influence from Altran than Heitran, and as a result modern Terran - though the phonetics are very different - has many spelling similarities with Neuran. An easy way to spot the difference between Terrans and Terran minorities is their language - whereas the Terrans and the Kolgar speak their Altran-based language, most minority ethnicities retained their heritage, and speak a very different language.

Other sub-groups of Neuran also exist in Antethia to the south (the only Neuranic holdout in Troplica) and in the northern nations, such as Starkain and Norcadia. Antethian is very similar to Neuran, differing only in dialect due to Freeden roots. The northerners have more in common with their original cultures and the Terrans than Neuran itself, however.

The final major language group of Avalon is Malarite. Though more prevalent in Continua, Malarite languages vary wildly from place to place - though the dialects sound similar, a Geptan would have great difficulty understanding a Sarthian, or a Brenkol and Keljak. This is due to the more limited effects of the First Empire's assimilation-extermination policy, as the desert-based tribes that were the Malarite conquerers before the Kingdom Age were largely ignored due to their native habitat in the inhospitable Sand Seas. As a result, Malarite languages are very strongly influenced by the original tribal cultures - the only reason most are grouped together is because the phonetics sound similar, and all are spoken by Malarite peopels.

Spoiler: Lynch Scene
"You're DEAD!"
[Andrius]
shouted as soon as he entered the hall, lunging at
[MacDougall]
. Others held him back. "You've escaped the gallows for too
fecking
long, traitor!"

"Stop it! I'm fairly sure we're all in agreement. Just let the
Beran
do his work!" said
[AGar]
.

"You're going to believe
him
?"
[MacDougall]
, raising his arms in bewilderment. "He's been lurking in the shadows all along! He's just blinding you with fancy wordplay! Mark my words..."

"I agree. There's just no way
[MacDougall]
's a traitor. I just can't see it," said
[Magua]
.

"I've changed my mind, actually,"
[MacDougall]
cut in. "
[Bogre]
has been hiding even more than
[Andrius]
! And he doesn't even try to mince words! He doesn't even have that going for him!"

"No, it's gotta be
[manho]
," said Magua.

"Wait, wasn't I voting for
[MacDougall]
?" asked
[vezokpiraka]
, very confused.

"Are you a traitor or a simpleton? I'm betting on both," growled
[EtherealCookie]
.

"I've changed my mind again.
[Andrius]
is clearly the traitor," said
[MacDougall]
.

"I am so sick of this
farfeck
!" bellowed
[MattP]
, on the verge of throwing a tantrum. "Can we PLEASE just get on with throwing
[MacDougall]
somwhere to rot?"

"I agree, at least, in that you should get on with it," growled the
Beran
himself. "I myself believe I've lost track of how many times some of you have changed your minds."

"
[Andrius]
," said some.

"
[MacDougall]
!" shouted others.

"Speaking of
[Andrius]
," started
[MacDougall]
. "I haven't heard from him in quite some time."

The crowd looked at each other for a few moments. "
[Andrius]
," they all said, almost in unison.

"WHAT?"
[Andrius]
yelled, dumbfounded. "How the hell did this happen?"

"
Herr Terrarch
, I will be disbanding the Ninth Legion as a precaution," said the
Beran
, descending from the Burning Throne.

"You...you can't do this! We held the line at Keiger! Our loyalty is without doubt!" Two men in black cloaks, faces hidden behind facemasks and cowls, appeared at
[Andrius]
's sides.

"Please confine the
[Herr Terrarch]
to his room. I will deal with him after this affair is concluded," said the
Beran
.

"Wait. STOP! You CAN'T! We HELD THE LINE! We're the only ones who can still protect everyone!" The Watchers grabbed
[Andrius]
by the arms and dragged him out, with him shouting obscenities and babbling the whole way.

Spoiler: Daybreak
The
Beran
stood motionless in the darkened throne hall, staring up at the Burning Throne with hands clasped behind his back. "I haven't failed. Not yet," he muttered under his breath. He heard one of the great doors creak behind him. "Ah, a man of the Brotherhood. A bearer of bad news, I presume?" he said without turning his head. The black-cloaked man silently walked to a point just behind shoulder. A gloved hand appeared from under the folds, holding a slip of paper. The
Beran
look at the paper, then at the face shadowed beneath the cowl. "You certainly are a quiet group...but loyal and prompt, at least." Sturmengard took the paper and unfolded it to reveal a short summary of the night's events. He smirked and looked back at his shoulder - but the Watcher was gone. He looked back up at the Burning Throne and murmered, "No, not quite yet."

Luckily, the mafia has helped us out tremendously, and I was right on manho.

@Mod:
Is this NAR, where recruitment comes after kills? Is it guaranteed that manho was recruited before N5?
Also, what is an "Enabling" Traitor?

Yes.

Something sufficiently cryptic.

Also I forgot to send out the massprod.

Spoiler: Lynch Scene
[MacDougall]
and
[MattP]
turned to
[Magua]
as soon as the
Beran
read off the names of the dead. "All the evidence points to you now," said
[MacDougall]
. "Everything you said and did yesterday looks very suspect now."

"I'm afraid I disagree," said
[Nero Cain]
. "With so few of us left, the traitors are doubtlessly hiding amongst what little crowd we have left. We need only look for the combination of lurking and incompetent to find our men." He pointed at
[vezokpiraka]
, who was standing behind
[MacDougall]
and
[MattP
. "I say THAT is our man! If not him, then his accomplice
[EtherealCookie]
."

[vezokpiraka]
merely shook his head, frowned, and narrowed his eyes. Before he could say anything,
[EtherealCookie]
, standing behind
[Nero Cain]
and
[Bogre]
, piped up, "I have to agree with the others. Suspicions of
[Magua]
return."

[AGar]
elbowed his way between the other two men and shoved an accusatory finger into
[EtherealCookie]
's chest. "That's farfeck. YOU'RE farfeck. You haven't done anything noteworthy or bold throughout this entire crisis! You've just been lurking, hiding behind stronger men. You have mere minutes to prove yourself to me before I lead everyone to rain hell down upon you. I. Want. ANSWERS!"

[EtherealCookie]
knocked away
[AGar]
's hand and narrowed his eyes, staring into
AGar]
's. "I am the
Domarch
of House Tyranus. My blood fought and shed their own in defense of our lands and Imperium during the War. THAT should be MORE than enough evidence of loyalty for you."

"You CONTINUE to evade questions. Even in the face of death or exile, you refuse to take a major role in defending the Imperium you CLAIM to remain loyal to!"
[AGar]
turned and walked away. "I'm done with this garbage."

"I have to agree with
[AGar]
on this," said
[kdowns]
. "Everything you have said and done throughout this situation, what little there is, has been nothing but following the strongest leaders you can attach yourself to. You're playing it safe when we should be bold. And that's why I'm going to cast the deciding vote."

The
Beran
waved his hand. "So be it." Two men of black cloaks suddenly appeared and escorted
[EtherealCookie]
out of the hall. He was silent until reaching the door: "You've made your last mistake, you pompous fools. You've doomed yourselves!"

"Who was involved?" asked the
Beran
.

"In the altercation last night?" replied a man in a black cloak. The doors to the hall suddenly burst open and several stewards filed in, preparing the hall for the day's session. "It is a matter best disclosed privately,
herr
."

Sturmengard inhaled deeply and scowled. "Very well. Was that really all that transpired in the dark?"

"There were no deaths or disappearances last night,
herr

"Hmmm. Perhaps the crossfire last night spooked our night stalkers into inaction. We may yet have a final chance to turn this around," the

turned and walked back toward the Burning Throne. "Send for the stewards to wake the delegates."

Spoiler: Lynch Scene
As soon as the eight delegates entered the hall and the doors were closed,
[Magua]
confronted
[Bogre]
. "I
wonder
why nobody died last night, traitor,"
[Magua]
said. "Do you care to provide an explanation,
herr
?"

"
Neg
, I have nothing to say on that matter,"
[Bogre]
replied, non-chalantly.

"Well, I know for a fact that men under my command confronted you last night, and forced you and an entourage back into your rooms,"
[Magua]
snapped.
[Nero Cain]
,
[MacDougall]
, and
[MattP]
raised their eyebrows at that, moving to surround
[Bogre]
.

"A sheer coincidence,"
[Bogre]
replied. "Considering I am Vorian Argelev, rightful heir to the throne, I have been spending my nights visiting my...future subjects and ensuring their loyalty to me."

"
Farfeck
,"
[Magua]
cursed.

"I must agree," said the
Beran
. The Brotherhood and trusted Guardsmen alike have informed me of your...nocturnal activities. If you are doing as you claim, then you have only done so during one night."

"How can you turn against me,
Herr Beran
?"
[Bogre]
asked. "You have sworn to uphold my family line."

"You are not a son of House Argelev,"
[AGar]
cut in. "But you are a liar. Goodbye."

It was barely a blur, but
[Bogre]
moved. He swiftly charged for
[Agar]
, who was leaning against one of the large pillars, wielding a knife. He was mere inches away from his slowly-reacting target when a distinctive curved blade descended - emerging from the shadows beyond the pillar - to slice off
[Bogre]
's arm at the elbow. Screaming in pain, and stump spurting blood,
[Bogre]
tumbled to the floor. A man in a black cloak, wielding a curved, shining blade at the ready, stepped out of the shadows. "You will NEVER win,
Duranniya
swine!"
[Bogre]
swore, spitting a stream of Terran curses.

"We have already defeated you once, and now twice," said the
[Beran]
, standing and scowling. The other, remaining delegates loomed over
[Bogre]
, glaring with unrivaled hatred. "And that is more than enough for me." The
Beran
made a brief gesture with his hand, and the Watcher's blade descended.

Spoiler: Daybreak
Garen Sturmengard stood in the dim darkness of the morgue, staring at four bodies that had been recovered during the last, deadly night. Two were soldiers of no consequence, accomplices in a brutal murder, but the other two were victims of opposite sides, whose loyalties had been revealed to most...unexpected.

[MacDougall]
lay on one slab, his body riddled with bullets and head mangled beyond recognition, the latter no doubt being the final killing blow. "I heard his words,
herr Beran
," the Watcher had said. "There was no doubt."

"Loyal to the end," the
Beran
muttered. "Though none believed it."

The other corpse would be unrecognizable if not for the words of the Watchers - it was missing its right arm and head. The blood from the confrontation in the halls would take months to fully expunge. "The commander of the Imperial Guard," the Watcher had said. "Murderer of
Domarch Morvanus
."

Beran
muttered. "Some things never change."

The five remaining delegates arrayed themselves in a circle, glaring at each other with suspicion and narrowed eyes. The
Beran
looked on from the Burning Throne above, slightly slouched and maintaining a hand over his mouth in curiosity. "With so few of us left,"
[vezokpiraka]
finally began, "we can merely use a process of elimination to unveil the traitors. I know I am a Loyalist, and
[kdowns]
has made a proven claim in regards to his loyalties and responsibilities. That leaves only the rest of you as possible traitors."

"I agree," said
[Nero Cain]
. "Because I know I am loyal, that narrows it down to two."
[Nero Cain]
eyed
[AGar]
and
[MattP]
carefully.
[AGar]
gave him a subtle nod, unnoticed by the others. "
[AGar]
, thus far, has been solidly loyal is his words and actions. Therefore, I am quite confident in pointing my finger at
[MattP]
in being the last traitor."

[kdowns]
remained silent but for a grunt and nod of agreement, crossing his arms.
[vezokpiraka]
raised a finger. "Now hold on a moment. We have only by your word that you are 'loyal,'
[Nero Cain]
. I, for one, don't believe for a second that you are loyal,"
[vezokpiraka]
leaned back slightly and mirrored
[kdowns
's stance. "Personally, I am comfortable swinging either way - the Imperium would be better off with neither of you."

[Nero Cain]
stared in each of the undecided delegates in the eyes; the cold, grey eyes of his own staring mercilessly, his expression unreadable and unrelenting. "Which of you is with me?
[AGar
?"
[AGar]
nodded, raising his hand briefly. "
[kdowns]
?
[vezopkiraka]
?"

"There is also a flaw in your logic," said
[MattP]
said. "You have discounted the final traitor for the Bremburgs. And I think that's you."

"Whatever
[MattP]
's faults, he has that point in his favor, at least," said
[vezokpiraka]
, nodding in agreement.

[Nero Cain]
smirked. "And there," he said, chuckling, "is where you have made your final slip-up."
[MattP]
looked at him, confused. "I never mentioned which faction I believed you were loyal to. So quick to discard the Terrans, eh?"

[MattP]
began to visibly sweat. "I-"

"Enough of this charade,"
[kdowns]
interrupted. "I cast my vote in favor. General consensus. Let's just shoot the
scheisser
and be done with it."

The
Beran
stood. "If that is your will..." he began.

"And that is my cue,"
[AGar
interrupted. "I have something that will end this entire affair, quickly."
[AGar]
flicked his right arm, and suddenly held a gun in his hand. He fired three shots into
[MattP]
's chest -
[MattP]
crumpled backwards onto the floor and leaked blood all over the black tiles. "I...I failed," he sputtered, spitting blood, and finally he lay still.
[AGar]
bent down and began searching the dead man's clothing. As the doors to the hall burst open and a dozen men in black cloaks rushed in, the
Beran
regained the power of speech. "How
dare
you," he said, his voice low and controlled but tone no less furious. "You-"

"If I may,
Herr Beran
,"
[Nero Cain]
interrupted, a smirk on his face and pistol in his own hand. "You've put on a gallant showing, but I'm afraid-"

[AGar]
suddenly stood up, a leather wallet in his hands. "Ah, family pictures, you can never go wrong with those," he interrupted. "Ah,
Herr
Piast, you may claim to be Duran, but the Terran features do not lie..."

[Nero Cain]
glared at him. "MUST I be interrupted at every turn?" he shouted, pistol still aimed at Sturmengard.

[AGar]
merely laughed. "Oh, no longer,
Herr
Gonolith. Of course, now that the final Terran traitor is dead..."
[AGar]
raised his pistol again and shot
[Nero Cain]
three times in the chest.
[Nero Cain]
collapsed much like
[MattP]
did, his face the picture of shock. "W-why?"

"I have little need for overly ambitious subjects in
MY

[AGar]
replied. He raised the pistol and shot
[Nero Cain]
once more in the head.

[AGar]
looked up to find himself surrounded by the cloaked Watchers, with
[vezokpiraka]
and
[kdowns]
staring at him in utter shock. The
Beran
merely scowled at him, nose twitching slightly every few seconds.
[AGar]
merely smiled. "Do you not recognize your rightful Primarch, Brothers?" he asked, outstretching his arms and turning in a circle. "I did not spend so many years in a Terran hellhole, clawing my way out of said hellhole, and weaving this web of subterfuge merely to be killed by my own subordinates now!"

"Victor," Sturmengard said at last, descending the steps to the floor. "Valerian's son. I see it now."

The Watchers parted, and Victor Argelev approached Sturmengard with outstretched arms. "At last!" he laughed. "I was beginning to wonder if I'd known you at all."

"You have changed much since you went to war," Sturmengard replied, ignoring Victor's advance.

"The War changed much. As do Terran
scheissers
," Victor said, grinning.

"We still have rebellions to put down-"

"And a coronation ceremony to plan. And plans of conquest to make," Victor interrupted. His expression suddenly hardened. "Yes, we have much work to do."

1. The Endgame

The townies left alive might ask "Why did endgame occur when there were two town, one scum, and one third party left?" The answer is that AGar's role caused him to be recruited by the Bremburg Coalition when he was shot - therefore he was technically aligned with the Bremburgs for endgame purposes. Nero Cain might be wondering "WHY THE FUCK DID I LOSE AND AGAR WIN?" The answer is that AGar's role, in vanilla terms, was a Lyncher/Usurper/Survivor - he had to lynch David Xanatos (Moran Argelev) at the minimum, then survive to endgame. If he was recruited into a scumteam, he also had to outlive the "leader" of the scumteam (StrangerCoug in your case) and survive to endgame. Because SC was already dead, his wincons were fulfilled by the time he was recruited, and only had to survive, which he did.

2. Setup Commentary

I stand by that this game was fairly well-balanced. If I had to change anything, I would change Andrius's role from Bulletproof Townie to Town Elite Bodyguard, or at least Vanilla Bodyguard; I would also change the Scum Rolecops to Trackers or Watchers. The town had a crazy amount of power - two vigshots, Watcher/Permanent Doctor, a Bulletproof, and three Masons (one of which was a Roleblocker). Now I'll admit the Scum Rolecop might have given scum too much power - it allowed them to peg Andrius as a Bulletproof. However, it did NOT reveal who traitors were - traitors of the opposite scumteam returned as "Vanilla."

Gandalf had a role that was potentially game-breaking - had he not decided to attempt to latch onto a scumteam (something he never would have known happened anyways) and claimed Day One, he could have immediately latched onto David Xanatos and provided PERMANENT protection from nightkills (until he himself was killed or lynched). With his death, protection for the town evaporated, which in hindsight was a major flaw. Gandalf's immediate death was in honesty not something I had anticipated (and I anticipated many, many possible scenarios).

The modified Beloved Prince role was meant to be something concealed and protected - by claiming Day One, David made himself a target very quickly, and that alone could have crippled the town (though not doomed them).

I'm proud of AGar's role. I really like the added dynamic even though that only really became evident later in the game. HOWEVER, as those who read the dead QT will know, there was some controversy regarding the role. And I admit, I SHOULD have warned of slight bastard-mod for this role alone, because, truthfully, I DID technically lie about AGar's true alignment - he was practically a "scum mason" to the Bremburg "mason group." I apologize to the Bremburg team for this, and I will hope to avoid an awkward situation like this in the future.

Fun Facts: As some of you know, the original setup for this was RADICALLY different. I was very ambitious, wanting to try out a TRIPLE-CULT setup - Independent faction would be recruited into House Argelev, Bremburg Coalition, and Eastern Plot every night, with vigs thrown in the middle to spice things up, and when all independents were dead or recruited nightkills would be unlocked. In the end in was scrapped due to issues regarding dead Independents (before recruitment) among others - thanks to my reviewers for helping turn that mess into this in the end.

3. Team Commentary

I'm going to be blunt here: the town played badly. Very badly. You had a lot of power but squandered it on poor vig shots (kdowns, you shot SleepyKrew. Who claimed One-Shot Dayvig for real after using his shot. Really?) and CLAIMING EVERY PR BUT THE BULLETPROOF DAY ONE. That sole fact, outlined in caps, is what doomed this town. The scum had a field day picking off the Power Roles one by one, thereby avoiding crosskilling each other until NIGHT FIVE. Andrius was in a precarious situation as the BP Townie - though he was the only non-outed Power Role, SC's flip as a Scum Bulletproof meant a BP claim could get him lynched immediately. Unfortunately, Nero Cain managed to peg him as a BP on Night Four, I believe, and that was that for town PRs. In addition, the town spent WAY too much time trying to get information out of the flavor, and I was forced to go way overboard in warding you off. The flavor was NEVER going to deliberately reveal role information - just look at the lynch scene where MacDougall (a VT) shot a lynchee for proof of that fact. There is a reason flavor is called flavor, instead of being called "Crucial Information Regarding Role Assignments." This is especially true in a theme that is my own, personal creation, that no participant is familiar with whatsoever.

The Eastern team was crippled by two things - Empking (their Rolecop) being lynched Day 1, and Bogre having control of the actions alone practically the entire game. The Eastern team NEVER recruited its traitors - MattP only ascended into the QT after Bogre was lynched. In general, though, the Eastern team played the days more poorly than the Bremburgs. I'll cite this in the next section.

In my opinion, the Bremburg team played a pretty fantastic game - Nero Cain practically carried this team to victory with very smart Night Actions and day play. Until Day 8, I'm fairly sure almost everyone had a townread of Nero Cain. Magua, as well played a very good game, and was never suspected until the sudden, unfortunate flip. So even though AGar "officially" won, I won't care if the Bremburg players count this as a win on their records (if they keep those things). They certainly deserved to win this, but did not because of the technicality.

I was quite unimpressed with AGar's play until about Day 3. He lurked heavily early game, but later in the game I feel he definitely came into his own. Even though the Bremburgs deserve to win, I feel that AGar equally deserves to win - he had EVERYONE fooled about his true alignments the entire game, and that's exactly what I wanted the player to do.

4. Player-Specific Commentaries

This is very blunt commentary. I've offended people in past games so read at your discretion.

Empking - Lurky/sheepy early play came back to bite you in getting you lynched. I do suggest working to improve that.
Otolia - In honesty, I feel you were one of the more intelligent town players in this game. You were more civil than your reputation suggests and despite a lot of suspicion on you you kept your cool and played a townie game to the end
whispersilk - Honestly...bad. You outed yourself as a Mason Day 1, wasted your roleblock constantly. If I were you I would have been aiming for blocking scumkills, and speaking up about who couldn't have carried it out when the roleblocks panned out. You were focused on AGar for several days/nights for seemingly no/little reason
Bogre - Bad. Your lurkiness and general apathy doomed your team after Empking died. Because you had no second voice to consult, your actions were generally aimed badly and you never picked up any of your traitors throughout the game. I'm very surprised you weren't lynched way earlier than when you were.
manho - Honestly, you were the weak link of the later Bremburg team. You were lurky and generally unhelpful, and you contributed very little in the QT compared to NC, Magua, and even AGar. YOu would have inevitably been lynched if you hadn't been crosskilled.
David Xanatos - Again, bad. While I admire your enthusiasm, the point of your role was to STAY UNDER THE RADAR, not claim your rolename Day 1. The flavor painted you as a HIGH-VALUE TARGET to scum, and outing your identity not only drew nightkills to you very quickly, but also alerted AGar who to lynch.
AGar - Like I said above, you were very lurky early on but you came into your own later in the game. Generally solid play (but not TOO townie) had everyone fooled, and you managed to avoid any sort of nightkill until NIGHT SIX, which is impressive. Bravo, you deserve the win.
EtherealCookie - Meh. Honestly not much to say here. Lurky and generally unremarkable, though you started contributing more later when numbers started shrinking. Be more active!
SleepyKrew - Again, I admire the enthusiasm, but you were very hot-headed, reckless, and provocative. It's not smart to waste your shot and then practically troll the town. It drew the other town shot to you.
Andrius - This slot was VERY annoying, to say the least, but I'm very glad that it was the ONLY one I had to replace. For a bulletproof, this slot should have been much more active, especially you, Andrius. You fell off the grid several times and I was rather disappointed with that. With so much lurking the mislynch was inevitable.
SodaSpirit17 - Again, meh. Honestly not much to say here. See EtherealCookie.
PeregrineV - Surprisingly, I don't have much to say for this. You were "solid," I guess - lurking enough to prevent attention being drawn to you, but posting enough to prevent being lynched. I'm sure your flip surprised some.
StrangerCoug - Honestly, I expected more from you. Shinki's gunsmith result might have doomed you, but if you had executed a proper fakeclaim and generally played better/more actively you MIGHT have avoid it.
monk - Once again, meh. I was unimpressed with the Mason team in general, you all were very lurky and apathetic, for the most part.
JDGA - To be brutally honest, I'm glad you were shot early on. I anticipated activity problems early on from you and IIRC I was on the verge of replacing you when the night actions came in.
vezokpiraka - You were incredibly lurky, but strangely enough your playstyle of "antagonize everyone in the game, lurk" left you as one of the most clear-headed townies later on. I'm sure you were the only one who had the big picture practically figured out by endgame.
gandalf5166 - In short, you should not have attempted to outguess me by trying to go scum, and should have played toward your current wincon. Claiming early on D1 was very stupid because it made it obvious you had inside information (which was why Bogre killed you).
MattP - I was honestly surprised at this slot. While very, very lurky early on, you also came into your own later in the game. You managed to dodge suspicion from everyone by finding the right combination or lurking/contributing, and I feel that if you had had more control over your scumteam you could have changed the game
kdowns - I touched on this earlier, but once again: what possessed you to shoot SleepyKrew? I know he was practically trolling but he claimed Dayvig and you had EVERY REASON TO BELIEVE THAT CLAIM. You were generally lurky and apathetic, and in the end handed scum/third party the victory. Be more active next time.
Shinki - Honestly not much to say here. I'm convinced you picked StrangerCoug to be your first investigation practically at random, and because of that made a lucky but very important contribution to the town. After that, though, you were doomed, and other townies squandered that early advantage.
samantha97 - I'm perplexed by your play where I've encountered it. But here you played, in brutal honesty, badly. It's NOT a good idea to troll the claimed vigilante.
Magua - I enjoy both playing with you and watching you play as mod, so I hope the last-minute discovery of AGar's true role doesn't turn you off from my future games. I think you played very well, as well as Nero Cain even - I'm sure you had the town fooled throughout, and the fakeclaim was well executed.
Nero Cain - Like I said above, you carried your scumteam almost to victory, and led where StrangerCoug should have been leading. Your actions were VERY well-aimed - much better than the Eastern team's - and allowed to both quickly assemble your entire team and piece together practically the whole setup early on. Well-played, you deserved to win even if you didn't.
MacDougall - Honestly...you were one of the better town players. You might have been a little derpy, drawing a LOT of suspicion and flak on you for a long time, but in the end you were one of the few with clear (and more importantly, correct) convictions.

Anyways, my fingers are very tired. I'll get up the role PMs and flavored night PMs soon. Yes, there was a LOT of flavor written in night action PMs behind the scenes. I had a lot of fun writing for this game and I hope all the players enjoyed it (even if I told them to ignore it).

Like I announced in the dead QT, I'm planning a larger-scale sequel to this theme, and I need reviewers/co-designers. I plan on trying for some radically different mechanics for the game (in the vein of MoHO or DEFCON) so I'll need quite a bit of help to make it really functional (like I did for this game, funny enough)

@NC/AGar: Wrong, I'm fairly sure the BP protection was meant to be universal, but if a vigshot used it up then a scumkill could kill for real.

I think.

Lazy coding because I'm lazy. I don't feel like meticulously combing each paragraph for words that should be unitalicized.

Night PM Flavor

SleepyKrew Death

You settle in for a rough night, disgruntled with everything about the name. Domarch Morrell's emissary deserved to be shot, but Arvek Morrell himself had been a good man, despite the misunderstandings. Your mistake would probably haunt you in your dreams tonight. In the back of your mind, you wished you didn't have to sleep at all.

Suddenly, the door to your room splinters open and a small squad of heavily-armed, grey-uniformed soldiers enter, brandishing rifles. "DEATH TO TRAITORS!" they shout, firing a volley into you before you can speak. As you lay sprawled, dying, against the bedspread, you manage to mutter a few final words. "T-t-tell Moran...I'm sorry. I made...a m-mistake."

gandalf Death

You don your black cloak, hide your weapons, and prepare to stalk your target for the night. But as you silently crack the door to your room...what's this? A unit of heavily-armed and highly alert soldiers stand in clumped groups in the hallway outside your room - some engaged in idle conversation, weapons hung around their shoulders; others stand at attention to the sides, weapons at port or shoulder arms and ready for use. It appears you will be going nowhere this night, and you carefully shut the door and retreat inside.

Several hours later, as you stare out the window, studying the walls of the Imperial Palace for suitable hand and footholds, the door to your room suddenly bursts open and a trio of men enter your room, arms outstretched and wrapped in...bedsheets? Your hand dives inside your cloak, fumbling for one of your hidden pistols, but instinctively retrieves your long, beautiful, and slightly curved Brotherhood sword. The leader chuckles and points his arm directly at your head. "The Empire sends its regards," he hisses. You let loose a final fierce war cry and charge as the concealed, mostly silenced pistols bark, riddling you with bullets.

JDGA Death

Satisfied with the outcome of today's proceedings, you settle in for a good night's sleep, confident of the coming victory over the traitorous forces gathering. Hours into your sleep, you are aroused by the crash of your door being kicked open. Several grey-uniformed soldiers step inside as you bolt upright, brandishing rifles. No...not soldiers - their helmets are emblazoned with the Bremburg bull - mercenaries. You scowl at them, carefully creeping your hand toward the hidden pistol in the drawer of your nightstand, as they stand at the end of your bed, smirking and hefting their weapons.

"Herr Bremburg wished you had reconsidered his offer," says the leader. As they take aim you bolt for the drawer, but their volley reaches you first.

Magua Recruitment

As you ready for bed, there is a knock on the door. Opening it, you find [Nero Cain] of all people, flanked by two uniformed soldiers. "Herr Bremburg has been outed, and now our plans risk disruption. Herr Gonolith has ordered me to take whatever aid you can muster for the cause. Come with me, immediately."

You nod, smirk, and follow.

manho Recruitment

You ready yourself for bed when there is a sudden knock at your door. Opening it, you find [Nero Cain] of all people, flanked by two uniformed soldiers. "Herr Bremburg has been outed and our plans face disruption. Herr Gonolith has tasked me with calling upon whatever aid you can give. Come with me, immediately."

You nod, smirk, and follow.

Shinki Roleblock

"I need you to grab something for me," you say to an aide. "Meet up with the company courier in the square market and bring me what he has. I had him fetch the company's files on [vezokpiraka]."

"Jaherr," the aide replies, nodding.

"Oh, and make it discreet, please."

Suddenly there was a knock at the door, answered by the aide. Outisde, a pair of grey-uniformed soldiers stand ready, rifles slung across their backs. "There are more out there, mein herr," says your aide.

"By order of the Beran," one of them begins, "the Palace is being put on lockdown. No one shall leave their rooms tonight."

It looks like you won't be seeing those files after all

David Xanatos Death

The Oldlands

"Mein herr, I really don't think it's safe out here," says your loyal bodyguard, alert, head swiveling around as he peered into the dark night.

"Don't worry yourself, Arvan," you say. "Nothing out tonight but the stars and my loyal followers." You lean against a wooden pole sticking out of the ground. Encamped on the road to Mos Kaligon, you've already seen a number of the above-ground telegraph lines. "I've always loved the night sky," you say, staring at the stars. "I'd say it reminded me of myself - a light surrounded by darkness - but I know hubris is terrible thing for a ruler." You smile and chuckle at your guard. "Then again, I guess I'm not having a twenty-foot golden likeness of myself built in my honor in every city across the Imperium, am I?"

"You may be young, mein herr, but you are already wise," says Arvan. "What you say is right. The Great War almost destroyed us all. Despite what my...inner fire tells me, I think it would be for the best to reconcile with the west." He ground his teeth for a few seconds. "Even the Juke."

"You learn a lot when you grow up outside of a more sheltered environment," you say. "The Juke aren't bad people, it's just-"

A black shape suddenly fell out of the sky and rolled across the ground. Arvan was reaching into his tunic when he saw a flash of silver-grey. You grunt, Arvan bellows in alarm, and the man in black remains silent. Something dark is spreading across your own tunic. You hear a loud noise from Arvan's direction, but everything's already starting to fade...

Quick Commentary: This was meant to be open-ended - if Town won, he would reappear having recovered and faked his death for protection

Shinki Death

As you prepare to head for the telegraph station with your aide, you peer outside and once again find the hallway clogged with grey-uniformed soldiers. But there's something slightly wrong - several of the men eye each other with suspicion and unease. You recognize some as Imperial Guardsmen, and others as regular troops. One, a feldsarr, has a strange sigil emblazoned on the side of his helmet, not the phoenix of the Imperium. You curse under your breath and decide to damn the troops, you're heading out anyways. Clambering out your window and into the adjacent window, which opens into a deserted storeroom, you sneak into the hallway and down the halls to the telegraph station.

"You know how to operate this, I presume?" you ask your aide.

"Of course, sir." The aide sits down, puts on the headset and begins tapping away in that nonsensical code. He suddenly turns to you and has a grim look on his face. "Bad news, sir. Word is that the heir from the west was assassinated."

You roll your eyes and groan. "Predictable. Is it proven?"

"Just rumors, sir."

"Indeed. We stay our course, we'll get paid in big dividends once it turns out he faked his death to draw out the opposition. What about Herr [Macdougall]?"

"I'll-"

The door to the station suddenly bursts open and a full squad of troops rushes in. They aim their rifles, and in response you raise your hands. "Guardsmen? No trouble here. We were just-"

"Your testimony killed one of [Herr Bremburg]'s good friends. He sends his regards."

They open fire.

monk Death

"Who are you visiting tonight Femme Argelev? If I may ask?" you ask.

"[AGar] once again, Herr Terrarch. I-"

The door to the lounge suddenly bursts open, and a squad of uniformed soldiers rushes inside. "RUN!" you shout, grabbing a concealed stub-nosed revolver from inside your uniform tunic. [whispersilk] dashes for the other door by the fireplace as you open fire on the traitorous troops. "GUARDS TO THE-"

A volley from the traitors cuts you off. As you lie bleeding on the ground, revolver fallen from your grasp, you can vaguely hear them muttering in...Terran? "What about the woman?"

"Treblinkya-Krusilov said to kill that one, not the woman. Now let's get out of here before the guards show up."

Seconds later everything fades to black.

Otolia Death

"Glass of wine, a Burgundy vintage. Leave the bottle please," you say to the servant, as you sit alone in the deserted dining hall. The night is dark, and the room is only half-lit by the new, impressive electric chandalier. Your order bounces off the old stone walls.

"Right away, mein herr," says the servant, nodding his head and marching away. Even the servants are disciplined, more so than the Imperial Guard itself, you'd say. The servant had turned away in a crisp, precise about-face, pushing a foot back and spinning around in a fraction of a second. Discipline is always a thing to be admired.

You hear the clomp of steel-soled jackboots on the polished tile floor, no doubt a Guardsman come to rebuke you for breaking curfew. You pay it little heed, considering the three bracing shots of Arkanian whiskey you took before leaving your room. The Guardsman halts at your left shoulder and clears his throat, which you ignore. When he grunts again, you lean forward, elbow on the table and resting your right hand on the side of your face. You hear the servant returning with your expensive choice in drink, leaning back once again when you sense him hovering behind your left shoulder. "It's very dangerous to be out of your room at this time of night Herr Domarch," says the Guardsman.

"More dangerous being in the room I'd say. Being there let's them know exactly where you are, especially dangerous considering how incompetent you Guardsmen are at guarding things," you snarl in response.

Behind you, the Guardsman sighs. "I wouldn't drink too much, mein herr. You do know that drinking alcohol can be dangerous for your health?" the Guardsmen continues. You tune him out as you hear the servant pop the cork of the wine bottle. "Yes, yes," you grumble, rolling your eyes. "Just pour the damn wine, boy."

"Jaherr," the servant says, pouring you half a glass of deep, purple Burgundy vintage before setting both the glass and bottle down on the table beside you. "Enjoy." You promptly take a long, less-than-mannered sip of the wine, finishing the glass and totally ignoring the boring babbling of the Guardsman. "Make yourself useful," you snap at the Guardsman, pointing at the bottle and glass. "Come on, pour me ano-"

Your voice catches in your throat as an intense burning sensation climbs from your stomach into your chest. You begin sweating profusely and panting heavily, pivoting in your chair to grab at the Guardsman. He whispers something that you can barely understand, and you gasp out in confusion just before you fall out of the chair and onto the floor. The Guardsman crouches over your twitching body and whispers, "The East remembers, Herr Delmar."

whispersilk Death

You lean against the stone banister of your third-floor balcony, relaxing under the moonlight and cool night air. The audience with [AGar], predictably, was boring and predictable. It's late in the night and you should definitely get some sleep before tomorrow. The door to your bedroom opens, drawing your attention. Three grey-uniformed soldiers enter, tossing the limp, bloodstained corpse of your bodyguard to the floor. "I've been expecting you for some time," you say.

"Your plot has failed, Femme Argelev," says the feldsarr. "The pretender is dead and your conspiracy exposed and dismantled."

"You can drop the act, fools. There is, of course, no shame in being corrupt Imperial Guardsmen," you reply, folding your arms and turning fully around. "By Domarch Bremburg's coin, I presume."

"I myself care little for coin," says the feldsarr. "But the proper blood of the Duran shall be restored to the throne, and the pretenders will at long last be cast down."

"House Bremburg never could accept the true philosophy of the Duran."

"Save us your foolish, bleeding heart. Duran are ruled by strength. House Argelev has failed."

"No, you have." You leap over the balcony railings and into the empty sky.

PeregrineV Death

In the midst of the silent night, you hear a knock at your door. You open it to find yourself face-to-face with three grey-uniformed soldiers, with non-Argelev sigils emblazoned upon their helmets. You recognize the leader as [manho], a Kolonel representing the 4th Legion in this dispute. "Is there something you wish to speak to me about?" you ask.

[manho] nods. "Care to invite us inside? I have...privileged information to share." You catch the signals and step aside, beckoning the men in with a wave of your hand. [manho] twists around a chair from your table and sits down - his accomplices remain standing, rifles slung over their shoulders. "Do you know why I am here?" he asks as you shut the door.

"I believe so. Please share," you reply, slightly wary.

"I'm here on the orders of our...mutual employer, Herr Terrarch. I bring news," [manho] continues, lighting a cigar. It illuminates the room with a dim, eerie glow.

"And what does the future Herr Argelev want now?" you ask.

[manho] slides his hand into his tunic to put away the cigar case, and smirks. You instantly feel nauseous. "My friend, I'm afraid that's where our situation...differs." He removes his hand from within his tunic, now holding a small pistol. Before you can react, it flashes and bangs three times, leaving you numb and motionless on the floor in a puddle of blood. [manho] stands up and looms over you, tossing the cigar onto your quickly-cooling corpse. "I work for the future Primarch, Henrich Bremburg."

As he shuts the door on the way out, the room returns to darkness. Then the room disappears, replaced only by the black darkness.

manho Death

You chuckle as you shut the door to [PeregrineV]'s room, leaving the corpse alone in the darkness. "What an stupid scheisser," you say to your comrades. "But I suppose Berserkers never really were too bright in the head, were they?" Your friends chuckle softly as you begin to walk down the dimly-lit halls. You round the bend to find yourself face-to-face with a pistol muzzle.

Shocked into silence, before you can open your mouth to shout in alarm the pistol flashes and barks, putting a round into your chest and your body limp on the floor as blood leaks out onto your formerly clean uniform tunic. Before your comrades can unsling their rifles the pistol barks two times, flashes of light briefly illuminating your attacker. Their bodies tumble to the ground in a heap, and the unexpectedly hot muzzle of the pistol presses against your forehead. "I can't say Deathbringers are any smarter," says your killer. There's a flash of white and then suddenly darkness.

Bogre Roleblocked

"Time to move," you say to the two agents accompanying you. You check the small pistol concealed in your tunic, then the hidden gun under your sleeve, strapped to your right arm. Nodding at the other men, they open the door and you all head out into the hall. As you round the corner, you come face-to-face with a squad of grey-uniformed soldiers heading in the opposite direction.

The soldier at the head of the column, just in front of you, holds up a hand and tightens his grip on his rifle. "Herr, I'm afraid you must return to your room at this time," he says. The men behind him fidget noticeably - their movements are telegraphing their preparation for action.

"Excuse me?" you say, perplexed. "I was unaware that the Imperial Guard was re-granted their authority over palace security."

The soldier narrows his eyes. "I strongly suggest you return to your room, herr."

"And I strongly suggest you get out of our way," Your fingers twitch at your side, ready to jerk for the pistol in your tunic at any moment.

"I strongly suggest," interrupts a new voice, so quiet it is barely audible, "we all return to our rooms and remain there for the duration of this night." A man in a black cloak appears from the shadows between your group and the soldiers, face and hands hidden from view. You immediately relax your reflexes and attitude.

"Of course, herr, we don't want the Watchers involved," you say.

"The Brotherhood is already involved. We are always watching, but now we will be watching more strictly tonight."

You signal for your partners to return to your suite. It's far too risky to attempt to kill your target tonight.

AGar Recruitment

You light the lamp beside your desk and review the reports your contacts have managed to smuggle in, thanking the spirits that you haven't had any visitors for several nights now, finally. The three armies have nearly converged on each other, each having marched through neighboring provinces to stand on the very borders of the Heartlands. And best news yet is that there have been no reports of Moran surviving the-

Your door suddenly crashes open and three men rush inside, brandishing pistols. You quickly stand up, picking up your chair and raising it in a futile defense. You recognize one of assassins as [Magua]. "Sorry, herr, just business," he says, aiming the pistol.

"Wait wait WAIT!" you shout, holding out a hand. [Magua] hesitates, and you lower the chair. You glimpsed and recognized the sigil on the helmets of [Magua]'s men, and realize you might just have a chance. "I'm Henrich's man! Bremburg's man!"

[Magua] looks puzzled. "I haven't heard of you. As far as I was aware we'd recruited all of our inside men."

"You're embedded in the Guard, right?" you ask. [Magua] nods. "Well I was deep cover in with the upstart's inner circle. I was trying to contact Henrich's representative, but was delayed, and by the time I had a chance he was down in the dungeons!"

"And you didn't try to contact Herr Gonolith's man?"

"Henrich is keeping some cards close to the chest. That's how he's always been, you know that if you're high up enough in the Guard."

[Magua] lowers his pistol. "Well, I'm not sure I fully believe you, but you don't have to be trusted by Herr Bremburg or [Herr Gonolith to simply work with them. Come with me, quickly."

MacDougall Death

"As you requested, herr," says the steward, laying the papers down on your desk before nodding and leaving your room. You thank him and take to studying the documents, them being copies of the court transcripts. There has to be something in here - you feel so close to nailing your enemies. You study them for two hours before feeling confident about tomorrow.

Suddenly, your door bursts open, and three men in grey uniforms rush in. You recognize one of them. "YOU!" you shout, standing up and pointing at [Magua].

"Remember when I told you I was with the Relmpolizei?" [Magua] asks, smirking and raising his pistol. "I lied." He fires as you dive for your bedside table, which houses your own weapon in its drawer. You grunt as the round hits you in the chest, but conitnue to crawl for the table. [Magua] struts over and steps in front of you. "That was supposed to be a suitably dramatic one-liner. Die, please." He fires two rounds into your back. You respond by grabbing the belt of [Magua]'s uniform and clawing at his tunic.

He tries to shove you to the ground, but your grip is firm. He pushes the muzzle of the pistol against your forehead. "Why won't you DIE?" he growls in frustration.

"ANORIA FOR ARGELEV!" you bellow before the pistol barks, your grip goes limp, and your vision fades to black.

Magua Death

You push [MacDougall]'s corpse away as his grip slackens from your uniform, grunting in annoyance and putting away your pistol. "Nasty business, gentlemen," you say to your two men. "Let's get moving before the Watchers arrive."

You step out into the hall and walk away from the scene of your crime at a brisk pace. Then you round a blind corner and find yourself face-to-face with Konrad Piast and several men in black cloaks. "Domarch Piast?" you ask. "W-what are you doing here, out of your room?"

"I would ask you the same, but I already know," he says, smirking slightly. "This is the man, herr. I saw him murder Domarch Morvanus not an hour ago. No doubt you heard the shots."

The black-cloaked Watcher to Piast's right nods slightly, and then the Watcher entourage steps forward as one. "I would advise you men come quietly, lest you die switly," he mutters, almost inaudible.

"Thrice-damn you, Piast! I knew you were the Terrans' bedwarmer!" you shout, reaching roughly into you tunic for your pistol. Before you can raise it, there is a flash of steel, and your arm is suddenly a bleeding stump. Your other men are similarly disarmed before being executed. You fall tyo your knees and shout one last curse at your final enemy. "We'll still win, traitor! We'll STILL WIN!" There is another flash of steel from the Watchers, and everything suddenly goes black.

Moran Argelev

"I may be from the West, but I was of the impression that this was a nation where any man of sound body and sound mind could become Primarch. And so said our heroes of old, 'For though mankind is inherently unequal, therein lies our strength. For within this Imperium we do not discriminate by blood or birth, but by the strength of a man's mind, body, and soul.' And so though these are my first, previous few days within the borders of this great Imperium, I am still an Argelev, and an Argelev who has been trained and taught well, at that."

"It is by our actions that we are judged, in this life and the next. I cannot in good conscience sacrifice any of my people, no matter how 'greater' a good may seem. For, as a ruler, I solemnly vow to protect and serve my people, to place their needs ahead of my own. How can a people trust a leader who lies, breaks oaths, sacrifices
lives
on a whim? They cannot. Men are not potatoes in a sack, or pieces in a game. I would have thought the War proved that."

You are Moran Argelev, grandson of the late Primarch and lost heir to the Imperial throne. Your mother - the Primarch's daughter - was trapped in the West by the outbreak of the War, and therefore you were born in the West, unknown to the rest of the klan. Urged to return and succeed your grandfather by your mother on her deathbed, you crossed into the Imperium mere days ago and now march on the capital, Orogoth, at the head of a large army of loyalists. Your role is
Mason Beloved Prince
. Your primary supporters:

Anya Argelev:
Lead Consort and provisional head of House Argelev, Anya can hold and audience with any faction during the night, preventing that faction from carrying out any actions he or she might have had planned. (PLAYERNAME) (Mason Roleblocker)
3rd Legion "Stormtroopers":
A full legion of the Imperial Armed Forces that excelled at punching holes in enemy lines and siezing objectives during the War. You have forbidden them from shedding the blood of your subjects indiscriminately, and thus they are little more than an imposing threat. (PLAYERNAME) (Mason)

You also have a passive ability:

Imperial Martyr:
If you are killed at any point, the Imperium is sent into a state of mourning over the death of such a beloved figure and the end of a dynasty, thus skipping the next day phase.

You win when all threats to House Argelev and its Loyalists are defeated.

Anya Argelev

"The men of House Argelev may be dead and gone, but the cats still have claws."

"The consorts and daughters still retain powers of adoption, and many remain fertile. We can and shall rebuild the klan, and no corrupt, sniveling aristocrats or cunning, underhanded foreigners will steal the throne our ancestors earned in blood."

You are Anya Argelev, Lead Consort and provisional head of House Argelev. With tradition forbidding female klan members from ascending to the throne, the Imperium was thrust into a crisis of succession, with multiple internal and external factions preparing to move against the Beran and House Argelev in a bid for the throne. Nothing relieved your stress more than the appearance of a lost son of House Argelev from the West. Rousing the support of the populace and loyal military units on the border, Moran marches on the capital, Orogoth to reclaim his throne - klan at his side all the way. Your role is
Mason Roleblocker
. Factions aligned with you:

Moran Argelev:
Lost heir and new leader of House Argelev. If he is killed in any way, it would be a terrible blow to the Loyalist cause. (PLAYERNAME) (Mason Beloved Prince)
3rd Legion "Stormtroopers":
A full legion of the Imperial Armed Forces that excelled at punching holes in enemy lines and siezing objectives during the War. Moran has forbidden them from shedding Imperial blood indiscriminately, making them little more than an imposing threat. (PLAYERNAME) (Mason)

You have a special ability:

Imperial Salute:
Each night you may hold an audience with any faction, thus preventing them from carrying out any night actions they might have planned.

You win when all threats to House Argelev and its Loyalists are defeated.

3rd Legion "Stormtroopers"

"Lightning Only Needs To Strike Once" -Motto

"It wasn't the Prime Legion or the Deathbringers or even the Iron Legion who broke the back of the West. It was us. We were out in front of every offensive in those last years, and took the heaviest losses for the largest gains."

"Five sons of House Argelev died at the front, leading their fire-forged brothers by example. The Stormtroopers take care of their own, and we remember heroic service. House Argelev is our benefactor, as close to a 'loving father' as a Legion has, and those ties are earned in blood."

You are the 3rd Legion "Stormtroopers," a large portion of the Imperial Armed Forces. Stationed on guard duties on the western border since the end of the War, you immediately threw your loyalty in with the emergent Argelev heir once he appeared, eager to prove yourselves once again to the Primarch. The 3rd Legion has a colorful and proud service record from the War, renowned for being able to punch holes in enemy lines and sieze or destroy objectives far to the rear while the regulars advanced. Your role is
Mason
. Other factions currently aligned with you:

Moran Argelev:
Lost heir to the throne and new head of House Argelev. If he is killed in any way, it would be a severe blow to the Loyalist cause. (PLAYERNAME) (Mason Beloved Prince)
Anya Argelev:
Lead Consort and provisional head of House Argelev, Anya can hold and audience with any faction during the night, preventing that faction from carrying out any actions he or she might have had planned. (PLAYERNAME) (Mason Roleblocker)

You have no special abilities. You win when all threats to House Argelev and its Loyalists are defeated.

Imperial Sky Fleet

"Death From Above!" -Motto

"I've only seen the full Skyfleet in action once, in the endgame at Keiger. Enough skyships to blot out the sun...and when they bombarded the enemy positions, it shook the earth and deafened ears twenty miles away. Nothing can withstand them. Nothing."

You are the Imperial Sky Fleet, the vast majority of the Imperium's skyships, mounted with heavy guns and payloads of bombs. Called to readiness by the
Beran
, you stand vigilant and ever-ready to bombard traitors and enemies of the Imperium into oblivion. Your role is a
Loyalist One-Shot Universal Vigilante
. You have a special ability:

Death From Above!:
Capable of annihilating any target from the air utilizing mounted cannons and payloads of bombs, you may eliminate one player during the struggle. This can be done at any time, as the Skyfleet is already airborne and ready for action.

You win when all threats to House Argelev and its Loyalists are defeated.

1st Legion "Prime"

"First Forged And First To Fight" -Motto

"The Prime Legion has the longest and proudest history in the
Imperio Sadforse
, and is the first called upon to fight for the Imperium. We were the first to fight in the Great War, we will be the first to fight in this one."

You are the 1st Legion "Prime," a large portion of the Imperial Armed Forces. Held in reserve since the end of the War, the
Beran
has called your troops to readiness in response to the imminent succession crisis. With thousands of soldiers at your disposal, you must remember your mantra and hunt down the enemies and traitors of the Imperium. You role is
Loyalist One-Shot Vigilante
. You have a special ability:

First To Fight:
You may send a team of elite troops during the night to assassinate the leadership of one faction during the struggle.

You win when all threats to House Argelev and its Loyalists are defeated.

Brotherhood of the Watchers

"I kneel in submission as an initiate.
I don my cloak, and so begins my endless vigil
I am the eyes in the night
In darkness, I bring the light
I bring hope to the hopeless
Friendship to the friendless
And fear to the fearmongering
It is in the name of the Primarch that I fight for the sake of the people
But it is for the Primarch's sake that I die
For as I prey on those who prey on the weak
So too do I protect the Crown from those who would prey upon it
I am the watchful guardian
The vengeful crusader
The vigilant sentinel
I rise a brother of the Watch" -Oath of the Brotherhood

"I am the Hand of the Primarch
This is His Mercy *cross bare hand*
And this is His Fury *cross gloved fist*
One hand gives, and the other takes away
I am the Hand of the Primarch...
Which strikes down the wicked! *strike with gloved hand*" -Primarch's Judgment

You are the Brotherhood of the Watchers, secretive fraternity of wandering, black-cloaked rangers. Eyes ever vigilant and watchful, your brothers protect the weak from those who would prey upon them, casting down the wicked in the name of the Primarch. Unknown to even the highest echelons of the Imperial government, the Brotherhood also has a second, even more important purpose - to protect the Iron Crown, and the rightful rulers who wear it. You seek out the rightful heir to the throne, and to protect him by any means necessary. Your role is
Loyalist Watcher/Guardian
. You have a special ability:

Eyes in the Night:
Each night you may watch a faction, seeing if any other factions pays your target a visit.

You also have two passive abilities:

Vigilant Sentinel:
When you use your Eyes in the Night ability, you will receive a special result about your target, as to whether that player is a rightful heir to the throne (male of House Argelev).

Watchful Guardian:
If your Vigilant Sentinel ability is successful, your role and win condition immediately change. Your target becomes bulletproof so long as you are alive, and you win with whatever faction your target may be aligned with. Your target is NOT informed of your identity or your protection.

You win when a rightful heir sits on the throne, and all threats to his rule are defeated.

9th Legion "Iron"

"Stand Firm And Hold The Line!" -Motto

"Who held the line at Keiger? We did. We earned our victory and our pride with more blood than even the Stormtroopers can claim to have shed. For all their pride and boasting, it wasn't the Stormtroopers, or the Deathbringers, or even the Prime Legion who were there at the crucible of our Imperium. We held the line against the endless, ravaging Western tide. We went above and beyond the call of duty in the Imperium's greatest hour of need. The Iron Legion won the Great War!"

You are the 9th Legion "Iron," a large portion of the Imperial Armed Forces. Famous for having held the city of Keiger against the most intense Western offensive of the War, your troops have been held in the central reserve since its end, only recently called back into service by the
Beran
in preparation for the imminent succession crisis. Your role is
Bulletproof Loyalist
. You have a passive ability:

Stand Firm and Hold the Line!:
Your Legion will stand firm against any attempt at destruction, rendering it immune to any sort of killing ability.

You win when all threats to House Argelev and its Loyalists are defeated.

Valterran Armaments

"Can't fight a war without weapons...but Valterran Armaments is good for that. The War made us rich, we made the Imperium great again. We pay those who are owed our due - and House Argelev is the best customer."

"Honestly...I don't really care who comes out on top, so long as the new Primarch keeps Valterran Armaments as his top contractor. But the thing is, Bremburg doesn't take too kindly to competition, and I'm fairly sure this guy from the East is just a Terran stooge. So our most profitable course of action is...to stand by the rightful heir. Funny thing, that."

You are Valterran Armaments, the largest weapons manufacturer in the world. Business has certainly been booming since the outbreak of the Great War, but a dynastic succession at this point in time could put an intolerable damper on profit and sales margins. Until a more viable candidate surfaces, House Argelev retains your loyalty. Your role is
Loyalist Gunsmith
. You have a special ability:

Weapons Manufacturer:
Each night you may choose a faction to investigate. By double-checking your sales records you can determine whether or not your target has the capability to attack other factions.

You win when all threats to House Argelev and its Loyalists are defeated.

House Morvanus

"We are the oldest house yet standing, our ancestry dating back to even the days of the First Empire. We are a proud house, and we rule great lands, lands prized by many a would-be conquerer or claimant - but none has ever found House Morvanus an easy enemy to defeat, or Anorians an easy people to oppress."

"However much we may envy or disapprove of a ruler, it is never right to cast him down, for we all, as Imperial citizens, must maintain our oaths of allegiance and remember our duty to the Iron Crown."

You are House Morvanus, one of the Imperial
Hause Superior
and rulers of the great city Mos Anor. The oldest and most dutiful of the Greater Houses, you maintain your loyalty to House Argelev even in the absence of a rightful heir. Your role is
Loyalist
, and despite your great power and influence across the Imperium you have no special abilities.

You win when all threats to House Argelev and its Loyalists are defeated.

House Delmar

"The rulers of the Heartlands have always been a shield to our lands, and so we owe House Argelev a debt of gratitude for their centuries of protection and benevolence."

"In trying times, the Duran have always relied upon great men - The First Moran forged the First Empire from dozens of warring, hateful klans; Moran the Great, son of a blacksmith, defeated a dozen nations, founded a dynasty, and formed our modern Imperium; the late Belisarius led us through the greatest war in human history with his soft speech and firm hand. I have heard this new Moran Argelev speak...and I believe him to be another great man. These are trying times indeed, and we need this great man to lead us."

You are House Delmar, one of the Imperial
Hause Superior
and rulers of the great port of Mos Forvar. Longtime rulers and most loyal vassals of House Argelev, your loyalty is unshakable and your resolve unquestionable. Your role is
Loyalist
, and despite your great power and influence across the Imperium, you have no special abilities.

You win when all threats to House Argelev and its Loyalists are defeated.

House Tyranus

"Soon the streets and fields and streams of the Imperium will flow red with blood...and of course, red is our color, and fighting is what House Tyranus does best."

"We did not sacrifice so much of our lands to destruction and so many of our subjects to death for the Imperium to lose all that it has gained in this foolish game. We are not pawns like in a game of Throne, and House Tyranus will not tolerate the machinations of traitors and the antics of foreigners."

You are House Tyranus, one of the Imperial
Hause Superior
and rulers of the great fortress of Mos Tyranus. A proud klan of warriors and shield of the Imperium against the West, you and your people suffered and sacrificed too much in the War for the Imperium to destroy itself in civil war. House Tyranus does not tolerate its traitors, and will bury them accordingly. Your role is
Loyalist
, and despite your great power and influence across the Imperium, you have no special abilities.

You win when all threats to House Argelev and its Loyalists are defeated.

House Morrell

"Remain steadfast and unflinching in the face of your enemies. That is our first rule of battle - and the maxim holds true in politics as well."

"Our glory was long ago, an age of strength and defiance we are likely never to see again so long as House Morrell only holds the frigid and harsh north. But we can rise again, in our own way, so long as we take the needs of the Imperium as a whole as our own. Together, we are strong; divided, we are weak. Moran the Great knew this, and the crucible of war proved this wisdom."

You are House Morrell, one of the Imperial
Hause Superior
and rulers of the great castle of Mos Morrell. Once the most strong-willed and defiant of the Greater Houses, House Morrell's days of glory passed with the advent of modern industry, and now it only cares for the strength of the
Relm
as a whole. Your role is
Loyalist
, and despite your great power and influence across the Imperium, you have no special abilities.

You win when all threats to House Argelev and its Loyalists are defeated.

House McKarn

"Be proud to be the spawn of House McKarn - we're made of stronger stuff than Morrell, Bremburg, and Argelev. They say the Duran are made of iron but a man of Thaneland is made of steel."

"We worship the strong, and the strong alone. Moran the Great was the greatest warrior of his time, and took his rightful place on the Burning Throne by strength of body and mind as well as force of arms. We will not bow to some coin-counting merchant from Burgundy."

You are House McKarn, one of the Imperial
Hause Superior
and rulers of the northern peninsula of Thaneland. The winters are cold and fierce in the north, and you've weathered many a storm in the trying times of old. The Bremburgs seek to take away what has been rightly earned, a mockery of Thanish law. It is something House McKarn will not stand for. Your role is
Loyalist
, and despite your great power and influence across the Imperium, you have no special abilities.

You win when all threats to House Argelev and its Loyalists are defeated.

Popular Uprising

"For the Primarch! For the
Relm
!"

"House Argelev made this Imperium! House Argelev led us to victory in the War! The people want a new Argelev, not a new dynasty!"

You are the Popular Uprising, a massive revolt and movement made up of Imperial citizens dedicated to restoring an Argelev to the Throne. For nine hundred years House Argelev has ruled wise and well. Now tens of thousands march on Orogoth to ensure House Argelev rules for another nine hundred years as well! Your role is
Loyalist
, and despite the scale of your movement, you have no special abilities.

You win when all threats to House Argelev and its Loyalists are defeated.

Stadt-Orogoth

"This city is not a mere pawn in a game of Throne! We will not simply stand by and watch as armies collide to destroy our homes and livelihoods!"

"Orogoth is the ancient seat of the Primarchs, and for nine hundred years it has been home to House Argelev. If northerners or easterners presume to invade and defile that home, then they will be sadly, and sorely, mistaken. This city has never been taken by presumptive invaders. Fools pay for folly in blood."

You are Stadt-Orogoth, ancient capital of the Imperium and seat of House Argelev. Your city is central to the plots and machinations surrounding the contenders to the Iron Crown, but you will not simply stand by and be destroyed by the opposing armies of this coming storm. You mean to protect your people and restore your beloved rulers to their rightful place on the Burning Throne. Your role is
Loyalist
, and you have no special abilities.

You win when all threats to House Argelev and its Loyalists are defeated.

Anti-Town

Domarch Bremburg

"'House Argelev,' I still snort at the jest. A clan of upstarts and thieves. Moran 'the Great' stole our birthright - our kingdom - and forced us to kneel at his feet. Kalmar Bremburg licked the boots of a blacksmith's son. Well, they're dead and gone now. Plans nine hundred years in the making are coming to fruition. Sturmengard can burn with the Heartlands, and this upstart Moran will never reach the city."

"House Bremburg rewards its faithful servants - and brutally punishes its foes. There is a reason Burgundy is the richest and most prosperous of the Imperium's many domains."

"He destroyed the Vandars of Thaneland and broke the Terragons in a single battle. He took Mos Kaligon in a year. The only enemy he could not defeat was Voran Morrell, after he died his House bent the knee. For a blacksmith's son, he has done a remarkable achievement. I may kneel now, my son, but behind my back I clutch a dagger. Grow our klan, develop our lands, build a power base - and in a hundred years we can throw down this upstart once and for all." -Kalmar Bremburg, 1035

You are Domarch Henrich Bremburg, head of House Bremburg, ruler of Burgundy, and most powerful and cunning claimant to the Imperial throne. With the late Obermarch dead and no real sons to be found, now is the perfect opportunity to gather your allies and sieze power for your klan. You've formed a coalition of Greater and Major Houses, along with several renegade military units and civilian supporters, and are now a major player in the coming storm. Your forces now march on the capital, Orogoth, to intercept the pretenders from both East and West and claim the throne for proper Imperials. Your role is
Bremburg Leader
. Factions currently aligned with you:

Domarch Gonolith:
Head of House Gonolith and senior emissary for the Bremburg Coalition. He can visit a faction each night and determine its ability to interfere with your plans. (PLAYERNAME) (Rolecop)
Traitors:
Bremburg gold has convinced several major factions of the wisdom in joining your cause. You currently do not have contact with them, but if one of your assassination teams does make contact they will openly join your Coalition. One of these traitors provides with the ability to prevent another faction from carrying out any actions during the night, but if this traitorous faction is destroyed, you lose that ability. (Enabler, Goon)

You may plot with your allies in this quicktopic.

You have a passive ability:

Bribery and Bodyguards:
You are immune to the first attack on your person that would have killed you during the night. (One-Shot Bulletproof)

You have two special abilities:

Lockdown:
So long as the traitorous troops you know you command remain active, you can prevent one faction from carrying out their own actions during the night. (Roleblock)

You win when all threats to the Bremburg Coalition and its plots are defeated, or nothing can prevent that from happening.

Domarch Gonolith

"It irks me when I hear the common vermin speak of the late Belisarius as 'the man who won the War.'
I
won the Great War for the Imperium. I led the armies, planned the campaigns, bloodied the nose of the East and broke the back of the West. And yet I have been given
nothing
in return. Well, with Bremburg's help, I plan to simply take what I have already rightfully earned. As they say, 'forged in fire, won by iron, earned in blood.'"

"Mos Kaligon has been the center of Imperial military power for thousands of years. This is a fact that our enemies of old knew all too well. It is time House Gonolith reminded its new foes of that fact as well."

You are Domarch Belisarius Gonolith, head of House Gonolith and lord of the great citadel of Mos Kaligon. Having been plotting with Domarch Bremburg to sieze power for many years (even before the War), this crisis of succession is the perfect opportunity for the Coalition to crush all opposition and succeed House Argelev at last. Even though House Bremburg is the most powerful klan in the Coalition, House Gonolith nevertheless controls large parts of the Imperial Armed Forces and has its place high in the coming new order. Now, the Coalition marches on Orogoth to sieze the ancient capital and prevent the two other pretenders from consolidating their own allies. Your role is
Bremburg Emissary
. Factions currently aligned with you:

Domarch Bremburg:
Most powerful and de facto leader of the Coalition, capable of manipulating situations to his advantage. (PLAYERNAME) (One-Shot Bulletproof)

Imperial Guard

"We are the shield and sword of the Primarchs. We both kill and die at his word. While a man of the Guard lives, so too shall the Primarch." -Guard Mantra

"We are the sword at the Primarch's throat. We both kill and lie at the word of our paymaster. While a man of the Guard lives, the Primarch shall live in fear." -Old Maxim

You are the Imperial Guard, traditionally the personal guard of the Primarch. With the future of the Imperium up in the air, your leaders have decided to sell their loyalties to the highest bidder, merely resuming their duties protecting whoever ends up in the office. Your checks are bolstered by Bremburg gold, and as such Bremburg's ranks are bolstered by Guard guns. Your role is
Bremburg Enabling Traitor
. While you are currently unable to contact your secret employer, you know the identities of your allies, and push their agenda accordingly. Factions currently aligned with you:

You have a fakeclaim:

. Each night you may protect a faction, and if that target is targeted by a killing ability to will die instead, taking the killer with you as well. You win when all threats to House Argelev and its Loyalists are defeated.

4th Legion "Deathbringers"

"Mess With The Best, Die Like The Rest" -Motto

"The Stormtroopers boast about how they broke lines, the Iron Legion boasts about how they held the line, but it's the Deathbringers who took the ground, held the ground, and brought death to its occupants."

You are the 4th Legion "Deathbringers," a large portion of the Imperial Armed Forces. Stationed in the central reserve since the end of the War, the loyalties of your commanders were long ago subverted by the gold and influence of House Bremburg and House Gonolith - it only took the lack of any sons of House Argelev for the troops to switch sides. The 4th Legion has a notorious reputation for utterly destroying its enemies and targets without mercy, a quality that should serve the Coalition well in its quest for domination. Your role is
Bremburg Traitor
. While you are unable to contact your employers, you know their identities, and will push their agenda accordingly. Factions currently aligned with you:

The Usurper

"What Great Terra could not do by force of arms, shall be done by the cunning of its finest minds."

"Hear me, people of the Imperium! I am Vorian Argelev, son of Valerian, long lost in the East! I was sired on a whim, myself and my mother kept on as mere camp followers until the great offensives of the early days of the War. We were lost in Eastern territory, forced to flee for our lives, hiding from our Terran hunters before offensives by our kin in the War's final months liberated us! And now I return, at the head of an army of supporters, and I seek to the claim what is mine by right of birth! For though I lived many years in the East, I have the blood of an Argelev in me, and their fire burns bright within me!"

You are Sargemir Treblinkya-Krusilov, known as "Vorian Argelev" in the Imperium or, to your enemies, "The Usurper." You are an intelligence agent and talented actor for the Terran Empire in the East, trained for years to assume the identity of a "lost Argelev heir" precisely for this plan to succeed. The first phase - the assassination of the late Primarch - has proceeded on schedule, and now you march on Orogoth at the head of a corrupt Imperial Greater House and other allies subverted by your Eastern backers, seeking to sieze power before the coup of nobles and hopefully murder the real lost Argelev heir before he establishes himself. Your role is
Eastern Leader

Terran Agents

"Bennerians have the charm and Arkanians the money, but it's the Terran spies that I fear the most. Their ruthlessness knows no bounds."

"This was not really the situation we prepared for, but it's absolutely perfect. Give the point man a few days of retraining for the role and we'll do this a little differently. This plan has been in the making for twenty years, and now this amazing opportunity has just fallen into our laps at the best possible time."

You are Terran Intelligence Agents, assigned by the Terran Empire in the East to support The Usurper as he attempts to sieze the Imperial throne. Along with several corrupt elements of the Imperial nobility, military, and citizenry, The Usurper and his forces are marching on the capital of Orogoth to stop the Bremburg coup and prevent the actual Argelev heir from ascending to the throne. 7th Legion "Berserkers"

"Never Halt, Never Surrender, Never Lose." -Motto

"Stormtroopers think they've taken the most ground for the most loss? We Berserkers have a bone to pick with that statement. There's not as much land in the West as in the East."

You are the 7th Legion "Berserkers," a large portion of the Imperial Armed Forces. Proud of your record for attacking with fury and ferocity without regard for losses during the War, your forces have been stationed on the Eastern border since its end. Your leaders believe that Vorian Argelev, known to some as "The Usurper," is a genuine heir to the Throne, and seek to restore him to his rightful place. Your role is

House Piast

"House Piast has, for so long, been trodden underfoot by our so-called kinsmen, left abandoned beneath the iron fist of the East. Our lands and livelihoods have constantly been traded back and forth between the Imperium and the East at whims and in wars. House Piast remembers. Now we shall have our vengeance, and the status we have so costly earned in our own blood."

"House Piast? You mean the bedwarmers of the East?"

You are House Piast, one of the Imperial
Hause Superior
and rulers of the eastern-most Imperial domain of Ralland. Subverted by the Terran Empire to work against House Argelev centuries ago, now is the opportunity you have waited for for so long. With a puppet Primarch on the throne, House Piast will be the real power in the Imperium, despite what Bremburg and his lackeys or this upstart "Moran" might wish. Your role is
Eastern Traitor
. While you are currently unable to contact your secret employer, you know the identities of your allies, and push their agenda accordingly. Other factions currently aligned with you:

Loyalist
, and despite your power and influence across the Imperium, you have no special abilities. You win when all threats to House Argelev and its Loyalists are defeated.

You win when all threats to the Eastern Plot and its plans are defeated.

Victor Argelev

"No man, great or small, king or commoner, will prevent me from claiming that which is rightfully mine. I shall pass by them - or trample over them."

"My brother is misguided. These Western philosophies paint a pretty picture, but a picture is not reality. That is why our side won the War - we have no illusions, we understand the necessity, the ubiquity, of sacrifice. Do the ends justify the means? Ask yourself another question: What endures? The ends."

"What right do you have to tell me what I can can't do, or what is right and wrong? 'Moral high ground?' The height of that ground was determined by someone else, someone who matters little to me. 'Divine right?' Your gods are not mine. 'Law of the land?' Those laws were made by a ruler. That ruler may be corrupt, may be pure, but that ruler is not
me
. Only I may set limits on myself. NOT GODS! NOT KINGS! ONLY
ME
!

You are Victor Argelev, grandson of the late Primarch and lost heir to the Imperial throne. You were lost during the War - captured by the Terran Empire and held secretly in the East for years until your dramatic escape. Finally returning to the Imperium, you find it in chaos, with multiple factions vying for the throne. While your half-brother may have the support of the klan, you know you are charismatic and ruthless enough to easily take control of any faction of your choosing. You are currently a Third Party with no loyalties but to yourself, utilizing a superior, unfettered morality to your advantage in this modern world of realpolitik. Your abilities and special rules:

Wild Card:
Your loyalties are to yourself and are often inscrutable. You are initially aligned with the Loyalists, but have a special Bulletproof ability - if you are shot by a scumteam during the night, you will instead be recruited into that scumteam. This recruitment is permanent and cannot be repeated. If you are recruited into a scumteam your win condition changes as described below.

Realpolitik:
From the start of the game, you must lynch your half-brother, Moran Argelev, who is another rightful heir to the throne. You cannot win while he is alive. In order to find the identity of your half-brother, each night you may investigate a player, and if that player is your half-brother, his identity will be disclosed to you. If you are recruited by a scumteam, you must lynch the leader of that scumteam, whose identity will be disclosed to you.

NOTE: In the scenario that Moran is still alive and all anti-town factions are dead, the game will continue until either you or Moran are lynched or killed. If you are part of a scumteam and that team manages to endgame the town while their leader is still alive, then you will LOSE.

Charismatic:
You have a One-Shot Unlynchable immunity. If you are recruited into a scumteam and you still retain this ability, the ability will be lost.

A Dead Man Cannot Be Crowned:
You must survive to the endgame. If you die you will not win with your faction.

You win when your potential rivals are all dead and you survive to the endgame.

Holy. Shit. You. Have. No. Idea. How. Tedious. That. Was. I had to run through each of those and meticulously code all of the underlines, bolds, and italics. The things I do for you people.

I'd forgotten about that. That was my bad that I couldn't get a proper one in in time.

As for D1, I honestly can't recall much on how you played then. AFAIK it was satisfactory in that most of the town didn't really put you on their radar apart from Shinki (unfortunately)
