I'm thinking of running a hardcore PvP game on a seperate server some time, if there's enough interest? A limited world size, health made tough to regain, and stuff.
The only thing is, with Windows and the Java VM, I don't think I'd have the power to host it locally. Does anyone know of a host you can book for just a few days?

I can run the server.exe and play on it myself just fine, but I've never tried having many people online. Windows eats over 2 gigs, Minecraft about 1, and graphics generally eats the rest, so though I could spare 512 Mb if I had to, it would be too laggy to enjoy.
Considering you can get a daddycheese server from a few quid a month, I don't think it'll be that expensive to do. I'd want some time to set up a world, anyway.

We may be getting a new desktop in the near future. Current one is Windows Vista (ugh) with 4 gigs of RAM. Won't be for several months (maybe not at all) but I'd be willing if/when that happens.

In other news, I think I know how I could organise a PvP survival thingy. We could use the xxxHardcorexxx Mod to prevent easy health recovery. It also makes Glistering Melons and Golden Apples harder to craft, and makes Ghasts drop gold instead of tears. It also lets you view everyone's health by pressing tab.
Then I could use Borderguard or something similar to limit the world size to, say, 1000x1000.
With GroupBasedPVP, we could have five minutes or so to get away from everyone else, and then switch to regular gameplay.
After death, perhaps use Spectate to watch the game unfold? No chatting allowed, of course!
