I made a small closet in my house, attacked a zombie, made it follow me to my house. I ran into the closet, and out the opposite door. Then closed the front door. Not that hard actually. I changed the doors to glass so O can watch him try to escape
I think they eventually despawn if youre some distance away but the hunk is still loaded. If you go far enough away to unload the chunk before they despawn they'll be there when you come back. I think...
On Vanilla minecraft, monsters de-spawn based on how long they have been inactive, and their distance from the player. Dig around the wiki and you will find the actual formula.
PE might have different rules, though.
Actually, I don't think that they de-spawn when the chunk is unloaded - they are removed from memory, but saved with the chunk (don't quote me on that though).
