I can see how you could draw that conclusion by deliberately misreading, yes.

Jailing me is not going to help us find scum, as I said I'm just a Townie. Why don't you do something useful with your power instead?

But then again, you jailing me keeps you from accidentally jailing our vig. So yeah, go with that so that you don't inadvertently block their action.
