Hype is a dumb reason to hate a game, a good reason to hate yourself. You will ALWAYS be disappointed in a game you play up. Period. I had no hype for X, first FF game ever and I enjoyed the shit out of it.

There are many reasons why I didn't, but don't feel like going on a rant about it. Given my opinions though, it only makes sense that I would view the game as over hyped among other things. It's not a dumb reason to hate the game if there are other reasons that I don't like it, regardless of whether or not I've stated them.

I've played Guild Wars, Metroid, Sim City, Sim City 3000, and Tie Fighter. Sim City is the only game that I've actually played for any significant amount of time.

Overhype is still such a stupid reason. A game is as good or bad as a game is, how much someone else pumps it up does not change the quality.

Tamuz declared that everyone accepted it as the greatest game ever made. I challenged that assertion based on the premise that I don't share that opinion and I know others that have similar opinions to me. I figured saying I don't share the opinion alone would have made my point but... Since Tamuz is intent to attack my hype reasoning... there are others, like weak story, weak characters. (To the point of the main characters being outright annoying.) Terrible plot twists that stretch suspending disbelief. (For a Final Fantasy game, this kind of complaint is really saying something.) Linearity of play with the game being the first final fantasy that doesn't have a world map to explore. You just get carried from one plot point to the next, and the story just unfolds giving you zero power to deviate and explore the world in any way. The sphere grid level up system doesn't do it for me. I can't fathom how anyone can call this the greatest game ever made, but many people do levy that kind of praise to it. In that regard I find it overhyped. There's really not much that distinguishes this game from FFXIII other than the story being different and the graphics being better. Go through every complaint made about XIII and you'll likely find a direct comparison to this game.
