So, I'm going to Toxic Volcarona, let it get to +1, switch out to (let's say Rotom-W), let it get to +2, and then sweep my team.
Great idea.
Alternatively, I can Roar it out, then move to something else, have it come back in, and watch it Roost (not just once, but TWICE) as I send in Heatran to roar it out again.
Bloody brilliant, I say."Animorpherv1's posts are so powerful that prolonged exposure may cause vertigo, nausea, acute tinnitus, and in rare cases, death." - vonflare

That wasn't the suggestion. The idea is you can invest in just enough special defence to survive certain attacks - using a damage calculator helps, and often Smogon's analysis refers to using very specific EV investments to survive certain things. I'm not sure what that number would be in the case of Gliscor, but I know it can already survive a +1 fiery dance coming off 252 special attack, so it doesn't just go down to anything at all, as you're saying.ani wrote:EDIT:

Depends entirely on Volcaronas set. For example a moveset of Dance/Roost/fire move/Bug Buzz would flat out lose to Toxic without being able to do much damage to Heatran, so you just leave Heatran in to laugh at it. Most movesets jut running STAB moves without hp ground would probably lose to it.ani wrote:So, I'm going to Toxic Volcarona, let it get to +1, switch out to (let's say Rotom-W), let it get to +2, and then sweep my team.
For one thing, not every Volcarona is going to run roost, so being roared out several times is going to wear it down pretty fast. If it does have roost and uses it every time it comes in to negate stealth rock damage, you get a free switch in to something that counters it.ani wrote: Alternatively, I can Roar it out, then move to something else, have it come back in, and watch it Roost (not just once, but TWICE) as I send in Heatran to roar it out again.Primpod 11:13 pm

+1 252+ SpA Volcarona Lava Plume vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Gliscor: 280-331 (79 - 93.5%) <- I run this set
+1 252+ SpA Volcarona Lava Plume vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Gliscor: 255-301 (72 - 85%)
+1 252+ SpA Volcarona Lava Plume vs. 252 HP / 184+ SpD Gliscor: 204-241 (57.6 - 68%)
Not the best looking stats, and considering how often I use Gliscor, it's considerably likely to not be at full HP.
Also, I want a way to beat every set - not just ones without Roost that don't turb this game into stall wars.Last edited by animorpherv1 on Sat Nov 23, 2013 10:19 am, edited 1 time in total."Animorpherv1's posts are so powerful that prolonged exposure may cause vertigo, nausea, acute tinnitus, and in rare cases, death." - vonflare

Do you have Pokémon Online? In post 747, animorpherv1 wrote:
No it will not - I just had Earth Power from Heatran do 11% damage to a Volcarona - that's FAR AND AWAY from beating it.In post 746, T S O wrote:If it's Sub Volc then Earth Power will beat it out. If it's not, then Toxic will beat it. The only variant which beats T/EP is the Rest Chesto variant.
I do not need Heatran to take on other what you guys are assuredly thinking of - I need Heatran to KO (KO. Not Roar out, not cripple) Genesect and Volcarona. THAT'S IT. What are the best two moves for doing that? Lava Plume and AP, as they KO respective Pokmeon in one hit.
I invite EVERYONE to come battle me 1 on with Volcarona vs. Heatran with Earth Power. You'll see just how bad it is then.

Like we've said several times, Roost is beaten by Toxic. I don't think any Heatran is every going to counter every possible set, since it can run hp ground to break through you. Running AP doesn't stop that.ani wrote:Also, I want a way to beat every set - not just ones without Roost that don't turb this game into stall wars.Primpod 11:13 pm

I haven't updated my client in forever, so same deal - I don't even use it, so I have no idea why I still have it.

Yeah, that was my plan.In post 760, T S O wrote:well the battle I had planned was me using Toxic/AP Tran and you using Volc, but are we having a match where you use EP Tran?

Well, I came in second place at the Pokemon Tournament. Was doing great until the final round when I had to fight a stalling Skarmory. Kept using Roar to get rid of Charizard and bring out Garchomp, Hippowdon, and Vensaur (none of which could do any significant damage to it).
Came down to a Vensaur vs Mega Venusaur battle, and I lost."It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill with rope and a slim majority."
