One of two things is going on in this game:
1) MM is what he says he is.
It's a Newbie game, so several players here may never have experienced the feeling of having multiple anonymous people out on the internet JUDGE you, cast accusations at you. For the uninitiated, it's an uncomfortable feeling. It's something you don't want to persist, if you've never experienced it. So your gut reaction, and every player at some point in their life has felt at least a twinge of this, is to just make it stop. I'll just claim. Everyone will stop looking at me. I'm just trying to play a game, I didn't sign up for all this pressure! Everyone will understand. And I'll feel better.
The problem, of course, is that Mafia is not a game of individuals. The tension you may feel from being voted on is a NECESSARY PART of the game, that you must accept, for the good of your team. By claiming, you have essentially thrown away the strongest power role in the game for town. With the removal of such a role, the game becomes very much tilted in favor of the scum team. And this was done for the sake of your comfort. If this is the case, post #145 was most likely the game losing post.
2) MM is not what he says he is.
Let's put aside for a moment that MM is actually some OTHER town role. Because I'm at least going to give him the credit that he's not lying as town, which would be an order of magnitude worse than Scenario #1.
MM being scum, newbie scum at that, and claiming cop Day 1. So this would mean that MM, behind this smokescreen of low content, actually realizes that real Day 1 cop claims are bad, that he'll get away with it for at least one day (because we're not lynching a claimed cop D1), and that this gives scum enough of an edge to get to endgame in a good position. I don't agree with this view, mind you, but that would seem to be the thought process.

At the end of the day, I think a newbie got intimidated, couldn't/didn't want to keep up with the posting, and there's an excellent chance the game's busted for town.
