Roguelikes
Anyone else enjoy roguelikes? Recently picked up Tales of Maj'Eyal, pretty neat, although a bit on the easy side, it seems.
Another favorite of mine is Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup, I've spent countless hours on that one. Elona's another good one, although kinda convoluted at times, but hilarious and good nonetheless.
I'll be the first to admit that I didn't grow up playing these, so the ascii formats are a bit lost on me.Last edited by choof on Sat Mar 14, 2015 11:40 am, edited 2 times in total.ignore all posts pre '21

If your taste lies in the more modern roguelikes then I can personally recommend and give a brief overview of the following if you're interested? I've had a fantastic time with them all and played through them multiple times.
Crypt of the NecroDancer
Darkest Dungeon
Don't Starve
Dungeon of the Endless
FTL
Teleglitch

I enjoy FTL and occasionally Rogue Legacy. I should branch out to other roguelikes.-

FTL is pretty much the best game anyone's mentioned - if this was a debate about the "best" roguelike, it'd really hard to argue against. Sunless Sea is really good, too, particularly in terms of the stories told within. Rogue Legacy is a pretty interesting game that I enjoyed the hell out of. Nuclear Throne is a game I've watched people play but haven't played myself, but it looks fun and it apparently is, so it's worth considering.
One thing I would point out is that Darkest Dungeon, which is mentioned above, isn't finished yet. It's an early access game that has yet to have it's endgame implemented, so you yif being able to win is important to you, you might want to hold off on that.ShowChloroform girl, how have you been?

Crawl is the best and the secret answer is to play more Crawl.
But pretty much all the thread recs are good. Nuclear Throne in particular is sublime. I'll also throw out a mention for Invisible Inc. Kind of like a stealth based XCOM.
Also, Hydra Slayer is free and worth playing if nothing else for the creativity on display. Hard to get in to, but in terms of difficult tactical combat you pretty much can't beat HS."Don’t buy a dozen eggs if you just want a hardboiled egg. Don’t buy a head of lettuce if you just want a salad. Don’t buy eggs and lettuce if you want egg salad because those are not the right ingredients." -Julius Bloop-

1. Humble got ya covered https://www.humblebundle.com/weekly
2. I have played a few. Crypt of the Necrodancer and Rogue Legacy are both great. I didn't really care for Binding of Isaac though. Too much RNG.
I derped around in FTL a few times too, it's decent fun but it didn't hook me.
I have a few roguelikes in my steam library still to play tho. Tower of Guns looked pretty neat especially, need to get on playing that one I think
The Nightmare Cooperative from that bundle also looks really interesting and made me pick up the bottom tier there yayShowEver wanted a playlist full of a lot of music I really dig? Here you go.

my favourites are:
actual roguelikes:
Adom
FrozenDepths
roguelike-likes:
Unrealworld is kind of like a roguelike but it’s more of a survival sandbox thing but it started out as a roguelike 20 years ago.
LostLabyrinth is kind of like a roguelike but it has pictures
played some angband and nethack and rogue and crawl etc too of course. The failure mode of clever is asshole.
