The comparison doesn't carry directly.
Joffrey was noble-born; he felt entitled to his kingdom and making his subjects dance around like puppets because he was childish. Ramsay, on the other hand, was a bastard; he's certainly as sadistic as Joffrey, but it takes a backseat to the service and duty he feels he owes to the Bolton name. Remember when Ramsay took Moat Cailin and Roose accepted him into the house? Dude was so humbled he practically kissed dirt. Joffrey would never bow for anyone.
Lord of Lynch protect us. For the Night is dark and full of scum.

especially since it's not so much the books spoiling the show anymore as much as it is them being completely separate. so do we need a Book Thread, Show Thread, and Crossover/Comparison thread?

Yeah yeah whatever the books don't matter anyways, but I reserve the right to complain!

You're actually mistaken about that, though maybe not in the obvious way.
Mountain's situation
is pretty similar in the book and show.

I know that
Mountain screams through the halls of the castle and suffers immensely because they try to save him, but I swear that I can distinctively recall that he died, and that his skull was given to the Martells?

Book/show comparisons should be in the book thread. More people that read the books watch the show than people that watch the show read the books

I vehemently disagree. Does seeing black boxes really bother you so much that you have to try to limit the discussion for anyone who has a different bar for what constitutes a spoiler than you do? I mean, I personally don't really consider "this happened in the books and probably won't happen in the show" to be spoiler-tag worthy -- if the relevant scene already more or less happened in the show, I don't care about related book knowledge. I'm only spoiler-tagging that stuff as a courtesy to anyone who might disagree.

And that's most of what's going on right now in those spoiler tags, is talking about stuff that already happened in the books by now or likely was cut completely, and some speculation based on that. It's really very mild.

Even the game of thrones show-only subreddit still allows book spoilers, they just need to be appropriately tagged.
First you get your wings back. Then you learn to fly.

Yeah I have not read the books yet and I just avoid the black boxes. When I do get around to reading it, I know I can go back through this thread~

I can see how it would be really annoying to stifle relevant discussion in the manner of splitting up threads. It would also be awkward if you want to respond to a thought here but it's also book relevant. I guess you would need to quote from this thread and respond there...? It seems to me that I am one of the few who haven't been reading the books anyway and I think that the minority* doesn't really need to be catered to when we can so easily just avoid reading certain lines that are blacked out.

*maybe there should be a poll or something

It's time to heal this wound so we can rebuild our nation. For too long have we been divided; for too long has brother struggled against brother. Four score and seven years ago, we established on this internet a more perfect website, and we ought become united once more. Farts.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

Oh right I guess Arya isn't aware that he is dead? She was chanting his name last episode along with a couple other s as if he were on the deathlist.
My new roommate kept speculating that the mountain was alive although I thought it was pretty clear that he was supposed to be dead.

What everyone misses who just watch the TV show is the significance of the actual name of the story and how songs are portrayed in the books. Condensed version of the Song of Ice and Fire- a bunch of people who don't matter to the story die after you become emotionally invested in them and then Ice (Jon) meets Fire (duh, duh, Danaeris), they bump uglies and rule the seven kingdoms in what is come to be known as the most prosperous, peaceful realm in the history of ever and oh yeah, the spider is a Targaryean too. The End.

Lol!
Jon is more likely to be the offspring of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark by the hints given in the books- Lord Eddard's persona of never straying from the straight and narrow, the promise made to his sister before she died, and Wylla being one of the serving girls from King's Landing
