Also, you guys are such Stark loyalists. I never was all that attached to the Starks that I suddenly didn't have anyone left to root for when they were cut down. I mean, I liked Ned and Robb, but they weren't essential players on my "Characters to Watch For" list. Give me Stannis, the on true Asexual King, any day.Official Gimmick List:

IMPORTANT BUT POSSIBLY CONTROVERSIAL OPINIONS YOU GUYS
bonus points for calling out grooming / modern body standards, which are completely out of sync with the period-piece feel of the rest of the showCurrent Avatar: Kronk. Duh.-

And just like that the show has met its nudity quota at the expense of depicting this prostitute as abumbling idiotwho can’t remember whether or not she’s supposed to keep her clothes on, despite the fact that she just clarified with him that he wants the “same as always.”
Holy reaching batman
Maybe
just maybe
it's because the prostitute has severalother clientsand it's a physical habit instead of a mental one
holy shit
The scene was completely believable and even relateable to me (I do things with my hands while my mind is in a different place all of time. It's caused me to buy the wrong thing at the grocery store even <_<)
Maybe women are treated as props in game of thrones because that is the reality they live in. Maybe Ramsay, I mean, you know he's a stand up guy and all, but maybe he's a controlling psychotic asshole who would prefer his women be naked and be to a certain standard. Maybe women of the world are treated as lesser beings. Because you know, the world is fucking fucked up. (By the way, what beauty standards did those tons of daughters the wildling dude live up to? Seems to me the women are different everywhere and this article just cherry picked a couple women who looked more out of their time period)
"oh no not historically accurate" give me a fucking break. This is a world where cruelty and evil fucking REIGNS. Women being presented as they are REINFORCES the *FICTIONAL* world they live in.
OH NO MEN WHO ARESEXUALLY ATTRACTED TO WOMENPERVERTED MIGHT GET BONERS WATCHING THIS SHOW. OHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooo.
There are plenty of powerful women in the show who aren't treated as props because of their ... power... and position in the world. Sure they are still treated as lessers to an extent. (Like when Jaime rapes his sister) But the difference is very noticible.
Maybe if Game of Thrones was about a magical society where everything was butterflies and rainbows instead of dragons and death this articles criticisms would be valid. But until then I don't see women being exempt from the power and cruelties of man in a story about the power and cruelties of man.
Sorry Quadz I just extremely disagree with your article. I think the writers heart is in the right place but they are just wrong. :c
Also just to an extra note I'm not saying I think women SHOULD be treated as props or naked all the time for no reason. I'm saying I think it's believable and reminds me "This is how women are seen and treated in this world. This is how EVIL this world is" If all the women were treated as they should be, as equals, I feel that it wouldn't make sense in the universe.Last edited by Brandi on Tue May 12, 2015 9:51 am, edited 2 times in total.-

I only liked the Starks because they were the only family represented as the Good guys from season 1. Sure they had their problems and I'm learning they aren't all that "good" to begin with.
But they are loads better then any other house. Such a bummer to have them gone so soonLooking for love in Alderaan places.-

It has always been clear to me he only has sex because he feels like it is his duty either to his wife (for children) or for his country (Red witch shadow magic, IF he is even having sex with her at all in the books). It is, perhaps, less clear he is on the show, given he is clearly having sex with Mels, but I have seen nothing that contradicts my view.
Here are two quotes I can recall off my head to cite:
"...he did his duty in the marriage bed once or twice a year, but took no joy in it, and the sons he had once hoped for had never come."
"Were it anyone else outside the gates, I might hope to beguile him. But this is Stannis Baratheon. I’d have a better chance of seducing his horse." (This one I recall being on the show as well)Official Gimmick List:

Well, yes, he is definitely having sex with his wife in both show and books, but if anyone is the type to go "Well, I certainly don't WANT to do this but this is the way things are done and I have a duty" about keeping at having a male heir it is Stannis.
I mean, the asexuals who actually have had sex can answer this better than I, but it was always my belief that asexuals can still enjoy sex (since our nerve endings all still work), it just isn't something we are inclined to do unless we have a reason other than "boy oh boy, am I horny". I like the book-Stannis interaction with the Red Witch better, but I don't see necessarily a contradiction in having sex for duty and finding that sex physically pleasurable while still finding it a waste of time and something he'd have no interest in if it wasn't for the magic and divine favor he was getting out of it. He certainly has never been making the first move on the show, at the very least.Official Gimmick List:

My inference was that Stannis didn't particularly love his love, and his relationship with her and sex with her was just related to his belief in order and duty and so on. But I guess there's no discussion of concubines for him really other than Melisandre, with whom sex has another purpose, so.-

Frankly, I don't get the impression that Stannis has any motivation for doing anything other than "I do it because I have to." It doesn't matter if it's sex or breathing or whatever. One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.-

I used to think Stannis was very boring but now I think he's pretty cool. This season has been good to him.
I think it's funny that Roose had a similar convo with Ramsay that Stannis had with his daughter, the whole "you're my son/daughter and that MEANS something"
yet with Roose it made me feel even more disgusted by him and with Stannis I started to love him. I think it shows that two characters can have similar motivations and such but still be completely different people.-

I find Roose and Ramsay fascinating from a psychological perspective. They have such a twisted/nonexistent sense of morality, and it can be really, really hard to find well-written antagonists like them who have a motivation beyond MURDER ALL THE THINGS or etc. And it was interesting to kind of see Roose take Stannis' speech and turn it upside down and backwards.-

What I really like about Roose is how understated he his- he's just as sadistic and sociopathic as Ramsay is, but he's much better about keeping it under wraps. One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. I think everyone has experienced this type of person in their lives. There are some people you just cannot watch shows with.-
