It seemed like a more direct setup for

They could have omitted at least 2-3 of the previous such discussions.-

The cinematography, set design, sound/audio design, costuming, writing, pacing, choreography...everything just fucking NAILED IT that episode.
10/10. The best episode in the show's history. Literally every scene knocked it out of the park.
- Lena Headey is a goddess and watching her so distraught and crazy was amazing. Plus, Qyburn is still creepy, and watching Cersei break as she realized what she's done to her son was just beautiful.
- Arya/Faceless Men is finally going somewhere and that's just badass.
- TYRION AND DANY WAS EVERYTHING I WANTED AND MORE.
- Hardhome, man. Hardhome. Best battle of the series. I can't think of a better "zombie" esque scene, even in cinema. Just incredibly well done. Lore-wise, it's amazing to see what is going on w/ the army/command. Valyrian Steel! Wight children! NK raising the dead! Horsement! Jesus fuck I'm still freaking outgreen shirt thursdays-

I couldn't disagree more about the battle scene. I thought it was shot poorly, had bad effects, and worst of all, was incredibly grey and dull. The snowstorm effect was clearly used as a means of covering for the lack of budget, instead counting on everything being wispy and white washed.Taking a break from the site.-

The snowstorm effect was used because...that's the weather up far north. That's the weather the undead army brings along with it. See: Sam running into the army in the earlier season.
There were so many extras. Every scene felt full. There was always shit happening in the background.
The effects here were lightyears better than the effects during the Children of the Forest scene at the end of Season 4. Like, I mean, other than putting every actor in zombie makeup and having absolutely no skeletons or anything, I don't know how else they could've done it better. I mean...
That looks as believable as I can believe the Night's King to look. I thought the effects were just fantastic. I can't tell there's any CGI or effects in that scene.
This scene alone is the exact reason why the earlier scenes were so disappointing (specifically battles in Dorne/Mereen), because they were dumping so much budget into this.green shirt thursdays-

I didn't remember him looking that frail the last time we saw him. I might have preferred a little more armor or something. His head also looks kinda small now. But whatever!-

Battle scenes in general don't do much for me, though. The only such moment from this series that's been really memorable was the dragonfire exploding in Season 2. I find keeping track of the human drama more entertaining.
Plus, I want zombies to eat Jon Snow.-

probably a top five episode in the show, at least. like the best battle they've done (blew away the battle on the wall last season in particular). thought the sense of horror and despair came across really well. and sure they were limited by budget, but I thought they did really well with a tv budget. amazing. good job saving the season, too.are you thinking of me when you're with somebody else?-

I think the battle was good, but it was really more of a slaughter than a battle so it wasn't my favorite. It was fucking awesome, obviously, to really see the white walkers for the first time in forever and actually doing something besides marching aimlessly and staring off into the distance solemnly.
If I were to rank my top 3 favorite major battles in the series:
1. Battle at the Wall
2. Battle of Blackwater
3. Hardhome
But I really love those with a passion.
I'm really just hoping that at some point far in the series, Dany will be in like killing things with her dragons in westeros and just gets attacked by white walkers and its freaking dragons vs white walkers2023 W/L | 1-0-

I watched this episode and the last one back to back so I might be blurring some of it together in my head, but I agree that this last one was good. The episode being about repentance as a minor motif was interesting.
I thought the battle against the walkers was well done. At the very least it made me excited that something interesting is finally happening at the wall. I don't care much for special effects but the scene had great acting and was pretty emotionally compelling. Unlike the fight at the wall which was so awful I'd rather have just skipped that episode if I'd only known.-

I'm sure it was fine, but nothing in that episode appealed to me very much except the parts with Ygritte.
This fight scene reminded me far more of a Micheal Bay movie than the wall fight.Taking a break from the site.
