Finally caught up. Holy shit, so much hype.

and I think Tormund has become my spirit animal which probably means he's going to die soon. :(

Normally I'm in a cage of rage when the show diverts from the books, but this was actually pretty alright with me, because it wasn't really spoiling anything. We already know the White Walkers are amassing a zombie army in the books. We already know they are dangerous. We gain no new information from this episode than we did from the books at the same point in Jon's story, except we get a fight scene that plays really well on TV.

Dany's "BREAKING THE WHEEL" was 3edgy5me. I think it would have played well if it was shown more as "Dany being naive and thinking she is tough when it is much more complex" and not just making Dany "badass" for the sake of being badass. It's the sort of thing I expect 90's anti-heroes to say while chomping a cigar and wearing a bandolier of pouches. I found it much more cringy than Ramsey's title drop, because at least that passed quickly and didn't have the actor chewing the scenery to deliver it.

Does anyone else think the Night King's armor looks more dornish than northman?

Well we did learn that
Valyrian steel does in fact kill Others;
which has only been hinted at in the books and not yet confirmed.

Is Tommen gonna just shrivel up and die from sadness? ._.

Also no one has brought up that dialogue with Stannis where he was asked to sacrifice his daughter. That scene made me feel really sad :/

Well, yeah, but we already know that there are weapons that can kill them and the "heroes" are in possession of those weapons, so while it's great for the heroes to know it isn't a game-changing like, for example, Barry up and dying.

I think he will be unwilling to sacrficie his daughter and I think that will begin a down turn in his fortunes.

Besides the show's problems with handling rape or insensitively using it as a means of character progression, I think Sansa's story arc is just wonky in general right now. The hair color made it seem like she'd have some kinda new beginning when she went black but literally nothing came of it and she's still just a victim. Unless she puts a knife through Theon and Ramsay or something in the next two episodes it will seem like it was all a waste of time. She did pick a potential weapon up, didn't she?

Man, not on the same wavelength as you guys, I absolutely hated that battle with the sole exception of the Jon vs. White Walker scene, maybe the giant scenes were alright.

What did you dislike about it? Did you dislike the other big battle scenes?

I didn't like that it was a surprise attack with no warning right as they were loading up the boats. I don't get how the very porous wall blocked the magic mist. I didn't like that the free folk gave up before the fight even started. I disliked how they had the 'Something is moving on the roof!' scene because we knew they were zombies and it doesn't make sense how they were on the roof of that building already. I didn't like that it took them halfway through the battle to think maybe they should go and get the dragonglass. I absolutely hated how cliched the Female Leader's arc was.

Overall I felt most of the fight was formulaic, watch extra get killed by enemy, watch named character kill several nameless enemy, all while jumping the camera around a bunch like people like to do in order to make it impossible to follow what's going on.

I liked the other big battle scenes I can remember though some of them share a number of sins. I can't remember Blackwater very well since I saw it like three years ago.

The episode was okay. Not as amazing as I was expecting (hearing all the hype and such) but solid.

I'm very excited for the next two episodes though.

I personally didn't like Blackwater as much as it is hyped up nowadays, I thought it was just a nice big explosions and then some fighting under a wall, wooooo sowhat
I swear I'm trying my best

I've never seen such a blatant character assassination. They did the Shireen thing purely for shock value. They literally spent the whole season building up Stannis as a good guy/character, only to assassinate it... I'm assuming they did this so people wouldn't feel as bad when Brienne McDoNoWrong chops off his head?

I don't know. They just ruined the Battle of Winterfell for me. I want neither side to win.
