Nah, I know what I'm missing out on: bugs, missing functions, ugly aesthetics that are massive memory drains, and other annoyances that always occur with new Windows OSes.
It's pretty much the same thing every time they put out a new OS. Other than 7, the last OS I really enjoyed was XP - after they fixed it. And before that, it was 98.
3.1 was pretty good for what it was, as I remember, as well.

as a power-user, I understand the hate that windows 8 gets but it's totally unwarranted and solely due to people not being able to use a computer. windows 10 will take the efficiency of windows 8, and the usability of windows 7, mix them together, and it will be one hell of an operating system.
windows 10 is so sick, benchmarks higher than 8 out of the box, I got the free upgrade as soon as I booted and had the icon to do so
^not being able to easily resize whatever you're doing with Windows default apps (skype, mail, music & games & news and all those other icons nobody ever really uses)
is an enormous pain in the ass. Splitting it into half the screen is fine but completely removing the ability to resize the windows without going through hoops was a really dumb design decision.
Except you did? Everything from youtube to outlook to fucking everything was an app. Office was all apps. And real shitty ones at that.
Had a Windows tablet at one of my old jobs in order for us to do inventory and shit on. I ended up just printing the inventory off every week because the Surface was just shit, and then trying to use that with Excel was just horribad.

I dont know what your'e talking about. because I NEVER use the apps on my tablet. I just open it up in IE on the desktop and did everything there. I did everything on my desktop like a laptop would. On my ASUS Windows 8 RT tablet.

When opening the control panel is incredibly difficult and not at all obvious outside of metro and in desktop mode, you know you've messed up your successor to windows 7.
I was only able to bear using windows 8 with classic shell which alters the desktop to work like windows 7.
I just use the search thing. Open the start menu and just start typing the name of the program I want and then press enter. Windows 8's indexing is so decent that it always returns what you're looking for; in practice this is much faster on average than storing shortcuts on the desktop.
like, anything I use all the time or need on short notice (control panel / screenshot tool) now take me a single click to access, rather than at least 3 clicks + typing

My method requires 0 clicks and can get to any program or file in a second or two.
I plan to wait to upgrade my laptop until i hear most big issues are fixed. What day exactly is the end of the year window?
Is there any cheap means for me to upgrade the desktop to 7 or 8 or 10? How cheap?
