In your perfect world, who and when would SKT have played to get to the finals? Oh, and make sure you're doing it with the information available BEFORE the tournament started.
Lets just say that BKT and H2K in groups, and AHQ/FW/OG in their bracket, is probably the weakest competition they could have asked for. EDG was a good competitor going in BEFORE the tournament. LGD/KOO/KT/FNC/EDG/ fuck even IG/CLG would have been more worthy opponents across groups and bracket stages, if we're talking BEFORE the tournament. Instead, they all ended up on the opposite side of the bracket. AFTER the tournament started, their group looked even easier since EDG wasn't performing as well as predicted.
I'm not saying that SKT would have lost to the said harder competition, but it's funny how they didn't have to show any special strats or reveal their cards yet throughout the tournament. Drawing EDG in groups is, I will admit, a hard draw since EDG was, going into the tournament, probably the best 2nd seed of the tournament (that SKT could go up against). But EDG didn't show up, and SKT just had a field day with the worst wildcard team and a subpar EU team on top of that. It's more of the bracket that i'm looking at though.

SKT is just so much better than everyone else that envisioning a fairer road to the finals for them is harder I guess. I understand the idea of splitting up the best teams so they don't kill each other immediately or something like that, but when you place SKT on one side of the bracket against OK teams, and put the four other finals contenders on the other bracket (FNC, KOO, EDG, and KT were all teams that had potential to go to finals, I think if at least one of them was in SKT's bracket it'd be better), it's just weird.

you hope to get close finals on one side and we didn't.
Also re easy groups and saving strats: look at fnatic. They get a taiwanese team (w/e), the 7th na team (and the region wasn't looking any good) and the clearly worst chinese team (if you judge beforehand).
Somehow after the first week they are no longer in the position to hide their kennen. That could have been a powerful trick in a bo5. Fnatic couldn't manage to get default wins. They don't have the champions that you can just put them on and know they will carry the game. You couldn't hand over lulu to skt, couldn't give them fiora, couldn't give them kalista, or even elise. If you did, that player was very likely to take over the game. That's not just that they got it easier, it's also that they are better and that they deliver clean performances.
Surrender, imagine and of course wear something nice.
So I remember the last team I really liked etc (gambit), weren't my team anymore when alex left. It just wasn't the same. They were bad before and bad after, but with him leaving it lost it's charm for me. I wonder how TSM fans feel now. Do they give up on it? Or are they so cynical to go with the argument that bjergsen was all tsm had anyway? Would they feel some misplaced loyalty to the TSM brand?

It's about being the fan of a franchise and what it represents, not a player.

Same, only replace the Giants with the Cardinals.
I like Bjergsen and Wildturtle, but if TSM completely removed everyone and started fresh with 5 new guys, I'd still support them because while the players enhance the organization, that's not who I focus on.
(Besides, Gambit still has Diamond so I'm happy there.)

My team is and has always been Fnatic. And it continues to be. Even when xPeke, one of the two ap playing reasons I became a fnatic fan left I am still a Fnatic fan.
TSM I liked bc I liked Regi. Without Regi on the playing roster I feel the main reason I watched them is gone. And I was a big TheOddOne fan. And the whole hating CLG thing.
