First, check out the Boilerplate Mafiascum Game Rules. All of the rules on that page apply unless contradicted by a rule below.

All Site Rules apply at all times.

General Rules:


1. Do not use my color (#C35817).
2. If you believe a mod error has been made or you disagree with any action I took, please PM me immediately.
3. Once you are dead, you are permitted to make a single "Bah" post. Do not influence the game in any way with this post.
4. Do not play against the spirit of the rules or of the game.
5. This ruleset is subject to change at any time. If a change is made mid-game, it will be announced in-thread by the mod.

Voting and Deadline Rules:


1. Votes should be made using bolded text (
Vote: Player
) or a vote tag (VOTE: Player). You can also vote for no lynch.
2. A lynch (or no lynch) occurs when a simple majority is reached. If deadline is reached without a simple majority, a no lynch occurs.
3. All days have a deadline of
96 hours
. I may extend this in rare circumstances.
4. Each night will end after
24 hours
and no sooner. The countdown for a night deadline will not start while a replacement is being sought out.
5. All night actions must be submitted by PM or a relevant private topic. I greatly prefer PM.
6. In the case of five consecutive phases with no deaths, all factions who have not yet achieved their win condition lose.

Activity Rules:


1. A prod PM will be issued if any player does not post for
24 hours
. Prods will be announced in-thread. You have
6 hours
to pick up your prod either by posting or PM (if at night). After this time, I will begin seeking a replacement.
2. Players who receive three prods will be
replaced immediately
.
3. If you plan to be gone for over
24 hours
, please announce that you will be V/LA in-thread (or by PM, if at night).
4. This is a blitz game, and as such, activity requirements are more strict. I will be forced to replace players with V/LAs that cause them to miss an entire day phase (96 hours or more). You may also be replaced for repeated short V/LAs or other activity-related issues at the mod's discretion. In particular, a recurring full weekend V/LA is not appropriate for a blitz game.

All role PMs are out and Blitz 1 has started! As mentioned in the role PMs, I'm not going to use a confirmation phase given the fast pace of a blitz game. Instead, you must post within the first 24 hours or be automagically replaced. Please take special note of the ruleset. I have bolded things that are unusual/different from normal games. In particular, these are the deadlines/activity requirements to take note of:

Days: 96 hours
Nights: 24 hours
Prods: 24 hours
Time to respond to a prod: 6 hours

So without further adieu, day 1 starts! With 13 players alive, it takes 7 to lynch.

This post isn't intended to be mean, just accurate.

This may have been the worst display of town play I have ever seen. I'll just hit the big points and let ETL yell at you all for the rest.

1) When a mason claims, he immediately claims his partner or he dies, period. If it's a true claim, he'll die overnight and you'll lose the benefit of a conftown in the next day. If it's a false claim, making him claim will give you a second scum if you ever lynch him. There is no benefit to a town mason not to claim their partner after they claim, since it just introduces insane WIFOM in later days where scum can counter-claim the mason partner in LyLo if the first one is dead.

2) Masons are not confirmed until one of them dies, ever. The benefit of masons is being able to bounce ideas off conftown within the mason group as well as being able to confirm a townie via your flip. There are no other benefits to masons. Equating a mason claim with conftown is as bad as equating a cop claim with conftown before you get any usable results. It's awful.

3) Kop was conftown in Day 4 because without his claim, the setup would have a serial killer. No-one realized this, ever. The masons were not conftown in Day 4 because with or without their claims, there would not be a serial killer. You know there's no serial killer because of the lack of second kill, or at least you can infer that with a very high probability.

4) No, you shouldn't no lynch in LyLo. Good lord.

5) No, you shouldn't claim letters/roles in the early game, period. Scum know how many T's are in the game based on their role (or at least they know them plus or minus 1, since they don't know if a serial killer is present). This information allows them to fake claim easily. There are several fake claims that can't be countered or have a very low probability of being countered. full doc, for instance. And it's a role that's easy to "fake", just claim that you protected someone other than the NK. There's no roles in this setup to track or w/e to prove they're lying. Alternatively, they can claim VT. Since fake claims are possible, you can't insta-clear all claimed PRs like Titus seemed to suggest, so you've gained no info related to who is scum, and you've given up lots of info to scum. Claiming letters, PR or VT, or full roles is scum's wet dream; it tells them exactly where to shoot to hit the PRs early. It turns this game into mountainous very quickly, and the numbers in this setup aren't good for town winning in mountainous. I seriously disagree with Titus on this strategy.

6) The scum team was
incredibly
obvious. I'm not just saying this due to modsight. Persivul egged ETL to self-hammer and then said she should be banned for it. Ocean was incredibly opportunistic. Ranger did not scumhunt in a single post, and there were serious relational tells between him and Persivul (major coaching from Persivul, in particular). Persivul scum-read Ranger all game, but kept pushing counter-wagons whenever a wagon was starting on Ranger and
never
placed a vote on Ranger. This isn't a scum win; it's a town loss.

Titus - you realize that:

1) Scum successfully fake claimed.
2) Every claimed PR came under suspicion and died fairly early, except Kop, who was pressured in LyLo.
3) Even with full setup info toward the end, including fake claims, town failed to crack the setup or gain any meaningful info? They actually cleared two scum based on setup.

Like honestly I think I could have posted the full setup in the first post and town would have done worse, not better.

And your partial execution of your strategy (multiple VT claims) directly contributed to town losing. You can hardly say that your full strategy wasn't executed and town lost, so your strategy is optimal. You've said you're a lawyer and better at logic than reading people, so surely you see that your logic there is incredibly faulty.

Titus, town hasn't lose "every time" such a mass claim isn't done. That's blatantly wrong. The town win rate on this setup is around 50%, mafia is around 40%, SK is around 10%. Your strategy was partially executed. I'm not saying lump that in with full execution; I'm saying that you can't lump it in with no execution, because your partial strategy negatively affected town's chances of winning this game.

Mass claim is literally never the answer in a well-designed setup. This is a well-designed setup.

You're right that it's good as scum to play town against each other, but when the town plays this badly, you don't have to do much. I mean, your scum team voted together all game long, and no-one challenged that or gave any pause. Especially Days 3 and 4, but also somewhat Day 2. When you are quick-lynching townies repeatedly, someone needs to stop and think "why are these wagons materializing?" Someone needs to do VCA (which was completely absent this game). Someone needs to do
something
other than continuing on from the last day like you have no new information from flips and kills.

Trust me when I say it's not modsight. I've modded enough that I have a pretty good idea where scum are making a mistake that could be caught versus a mistake that should be caught. When I read as mod, I look for things that could be problematic, but also things that I know I would challenge as town. In this game, I would have:

1) Lynched Titus Day 1 for role fishing, since that's what she did.
2) Pressured Ocean as playing opportunistically toward the end of Day 2 - this is one of my top scum-tells that I look for

Those are things that would have happened for sure. The rest of course changes because a lynch on ocean would mean everyone would play differently. And who knows, maybe with competent town, scum would have played better. Let's say the game state at all times was the same and I was just magically inserted, though. Here are a few things I 100% would have pushed.

3) Mason claim with no partner claim. That's a lynch, immediately, unless they claim.
4) Persivul coaching Ranger. Coaching is a serious scum tell that rarely gives a false positive (assuming you correctly identify what is coaching vs defending). I'd be going after Persivul here, and then Ranger when he flipped scum.
5) After ETL flipped, I would analyze her wagon and her reads now that she's conf-town and look at those cases. No-one really did this except maybe marge.

Persivul, you played the best scum game imo out of all players in the game thread, although I think your actions in the scum thread (especially regarding mason claiming) were not so good. There were definitely some things that a reasonable townie should have questioned, though, including your coaching of Ranger and soft-defending him while having him as a scum read. Those are not things town does, and those tells are extra great because they give you 2 scum for the price of one.

Titus, I'll policy lynch you as town or scum if you request a mass claim in this setup while I'm playing, or in most other setups. That's not pro-town. Lynching you before others start buying in assuming you know what you're talking about is better than letting town implode by giving scum every bit of information they could possibly want.

Tough love: It's not because people fear you. It's because your suggestion is a VI move that comes from either scum or town that is more harm than good to their factions chances of winning.

PRs help town find scum and keep town alive. That's the whole point of PRs. You've advocated that PRs other than cop don't matter. I'm sorry, but winrate statistics prove that that's just blatantly wrong. It's not a sideshow. It's a HUGE part of how you win the game as town.

It was much harder than normal to find replacements in the blitz format. I PM'd everyone I know who still plays Mafia and has played in my games before/would be willing to help me out. Only two said yes to replacing. If I had needed a third replacement, I seriously doubt whether I could have filled it. Importantly, I was unable to find replacements from the queue or replacement thread. No-one wants to replace into a 30+ page game that's getting 5 more pages per day and has <48 hours to deadline. That's the game state for most of a blitz, by nature. The game is moving too fast to allow for replacements, imo.

I do not plan to modkill as a first option. I will be writing into my ruleset that, upon failure to find a replacement for >24 hours, I reserve the right to modkill the slot. I'll do this only as a last resort after I've tried everything I can to get a replacement.

More importantly, I'll be trying to make sure that no-one who doesn't belong in a blitz game joins in the first place. I'll be screening all players who /in to any future blitzes I run for activity issues.

You may /in to replace, but not /in, to my blitzes if:
* You've ever replaced out of a blitz.
* You've recently had activity issues such as replacing out of any game or receiving excessive prods.

You may not /in or /in to replace to my blitzes if:
* You've demonstrated a long-term trend of activity issues on-site.
* You do not have at least one completed game of on-site experience (so I can access activity).

This is 100% coaching. Town doesn't talk this way to someone they don't think is playing like town. You're telling him to move his vote onto the wagon here.

So Persivul. You have a scum read as town. You see them doing something scummy (vote parking on a non-wagon close to deadline). You tell them to be more town rather than make the case that they're acting scummy?
