Scummies 2016 Nomination Thread

It's like the least rewarding listmod job ever. You have to trawl through all the nominations, find if it's already been nominated, format it, etc. It's not that onerous at any given time, but it is definitely so in aggregate. The proof is in the pudding: no matter who has done the updates, it has gotten out of date with regularity with only sporadic updates.

Is the form user-unfriendly?

As for a list with people nominated from the forms, I've made one that can be posted. I'll let them decide how and whether to incorporate that.

For you perhaps. Ask anyone who has done the updates for any period of time whether it worked fine.

I don't know who has done the updates for any period of time but sure, I'll ask you. What was the problem with it? It seems to me like the people updating just have to keep up with the thread and add people in whenever they see a nomination. That doesn't look particularly onerous and the thread pace normally seems to be fairly slow. Granted, the scummies committee is entitled to streamline their workload but ultimately that needs to be balanced with user-friendliness. I think the trade-off for the members is pretty high having to either open a form to see who's nominated for what or not seeing it at all.

The old Scummies OP was a quagmire of shitty BBcode and walls of text. It took an obscenely long time to manage and a surprising rate of what I like to call "breaking the whole goddamned thread" by putting a bracket in the wrong place. Add that to the fact that we couldn't even manage it from our own accounts -- we had to log out and switch to Scummies to do anything -- and it became an onerous process that everyone dreaded and put off as long as possible. How do you get more user-friendly than "click a button and fill out a form"? How is this system not user-friendly?

Why does it matter who is already nominated or not nominated? If you think someone deserves a nomination, you nominate them. If they're already nominated, great, now we have two people who independently nominated the same person for the same thing, that gives the judges something to look at when judging. The only reason I could see for full disclosure of the nominee list is to allow people to counter-argue nominees, and that's on-its-face-dumb. If you can give me a good reason why people need to see the nominee list, I'll put it in the OP.

The other thing is that not having the nominees allows us to do

traditionally, nominations have been about more than just hyping up an eventual ceremony
it's been the main way the community recognizes and spreads the word about what makes it great

I'm not sure a policy has been announced, but as long as it's not a self-nom, my guess is that it will not be. Don't hold me to that though. PRobably in some part relies on what kinds of numbers we see in the nomination form.

Weren't there previously awards for the best mafia team and best town team? Now there are only awards for, as an individual player, best scum and best third party performances (single game) and best town player of the year (paragon)

Considering mafia is by and large a team sport, I find this focus on individualism disheartening :c

No, but you'll find there are also awards there for the best team. Teams get awarded for being the "best", that isn't only "teamwork" that applies to that. "Teamwork" is an aspect of good town play but to be a best team you need more than just that, a town that only works together well but can't do anything else won't get anywhere. The whole "it's just an aspect of play" isn't right.

Agreed. I don't like the implementation of Don Corleone as it is; it was best as an individual award.
