Actually, he's not "pretending", I don't think. It was hard to tell bc of his trolly nature, but I know town!Kuroi would not have let you calling him "mafia" slip. (Btw, why Mafia & not WW???). Now I'm thinking Kuroi IS Mafia and either thinks you might be a WW (so do I based on that phrasing you used), OR is you are his Mafia partner, so he either deliberately let it go for now so as not to be the one pushing on you or deliberately let it go in hopes nobody else would notice.
