That's not really a stretch. A stretch is to take a point and draw a not very common conclusion from it.
For example, my slight town read on Char is a bit of a stretch because he didn't really do anything townie, he just didn't do something in particular that would have been scummy that I would have expected to have been done in the position he was in time.

Why is having an early game townread weird I do agree having "solid townreads" is weird but saying "yeah you could be town" is fine.

Nothing in there is really taking a stance on anything and the only real point that could even be remotely considered a stretch was the "not like he's saying: OMG YOU HAVE TO BE TOWN 100%" which would could potentially argue that there was a stretch there that you (Hark) and Drone were not saying that and it may have been a stretch to conclude that was the point you guys were trying to make.
Even then that's not really that much of a stretch.

I think you mean unjustified and not stretch. That seams to be what the argument you are making is trying to say, but when you use stretch like that it makes a completely different point. If you had said unjustified then that would be in line with the defending against a non-existent accusation as since there was no accusation to begin with there would have been no need for a defense and that would be weird as you say.
But your wording just seams really off and I'm pretty sure that's confusing Maria creating this little argument.

You can definitely tell by word choices and sentence structure that it isn't his first language. Understanding language is different than that.
