Those pods are too big, 8 of 5, cutting down to 20. Then 4 pods of 5 down again.

Also either things have changed dramatically around here in the last 20 contests or whatever it is since I entered last or Pod A just ended up as a group of death.

In post 123, Debonair Danny DiPietro wrote:Triple D's convoluted tournament structure of champions. 13 pods of 3, winners move on to the finals, losers to the losers bracket. 26 teams are paired head to head, winners advance and losers are done. Best song gets a bye into the finals. Remaining twelve go head to head again with the six winners making the finals. 20 teams in the finals end up in four pods of five for head to head action with the top two of each pod and the two highest other placers making the final list.
Fun!

Yeah, sorry. Something went wrong with one of the entries, so there were 40 to start off with and then a 41st got added afterward. I'm tentatively blaming whatever jerkholes decided they were going to mess with the internet for a day.

He explains it like 4-5 post back. It's song vs song h2h pods thing narrowing down to 16 in order to start to get his list together or something. Idk I mstly gored it, but it's part of his (overcomplicated) voting scheme, but he def explained it.

Bingo, it's like the World Cup (though I'm cutting to 20, not 16 so I can include any third place songs I feel deserve to still be in contention). It started as a bit of me just screwing around because I like tournament structures and brackets and playing with them but I actually think it's a real useful tool to me. When you're trying to order 25 songs, let alone 40, what really is a 5 or a 6.8? And how can you hold those consistent over several hours or days if you have to break up your listening? But listening to two songs back to back makes it pretty easy to figure out which you think is better between them and if you do that enough you have enough information to then rank them.

I usually just put all the countries in a hat, pull out 10 and vote that. If I pull Iceland I throw it away and pull again.

Gotta at least pretend it's a fair playing field otherwise the competitions committee will look into it. I can't afford a federal investigation.

Hong Kong – Hey look it’s rap. Hey look it’s my interest immediately dropping. This guy sounds like his entire mouth is numb though like seriously. It’s like he’s chewing on his tongue. It’s like he has a really bad cold. It’s like. He just sounds awful. The music trying to be cinematic and epic in the background only really makes it worse because it makes the mushmouth vocals sound even worse by comparison. This would probably be a decent if a bit unmemorable film score track if not for the awful vocals. (BAD)

Philippines – She’s a fine enough singer and this is a fine enough piano ballad. A bit predictable but it all just sounds pretty solid. I like the guitar presence and tiny little solo too. Vaguely sounds like it’s trying to capture a 70’s rock ballad feel I guess. I’m fine with this, probably won’t remember it, but it’s nice. (DECENT)

Afghanistan – The bass kick has about as much power as lightly thumping on a pillow with your elbow. That’s about what it sounds like. It’s loud, louder than it has any right to be, but there’s just no punch to it. The drum sound in general I don’t really like but that bass kick definitely stands out as pretty terrible. I do like most everything else about this though really. There’s a nice chill atmosphere and the synths are decently textured, and the vocals fit right in. Honestly if the drums sounded better this would be a pretty cool chill tune but as they are they’re just, really distracting. (AVERAGE)

Germany – They damn well should’ve. Everything I’ve seen about the decade suggests this was the equivalent to a cultural toxic waste dump. Anyways this song is trying to sound like a generic 80’s pop song, which it pulls off decently well. So it sucks, basically. There’s really nothing more to say. (BAD)

Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic – Just looking at the image for this one makes me want to die. And the title is even worse. And then the song starts and I want to die even more. This sounds like, to put it bluntly, garbage. Just everything about it. Awful. I lasted 45 seconds. I don’t need to see any more. (DID NOT FINISH)

USA – Everyone has been saying their new album is pretty good. I don’t listen to these guys though really. I did not know there was any point in their career where they had harsh vocals. Production sounds like trash though. Super muddy and thin. Dunno. Not into their newer stuff but I don’t see myself getting into their older stuff evil if it sounds like this. Ain’t awful really. Just pretty normal-sounding with bad production. Maybe one or two bits that are kind of cool I guess. Meh. (AVERAGE)

Egypt – The most interesting thing about this was the vocal rhythms, which provide a swingy sound to a song that otherwise sounds very flat and straightforward. And… it’s interesting, but I’m not quite sure it works. There’s just a disconnect somewhere. Everything else about this song is just generic pop stuff that I’ve heard before. Her voice is fine but nothing special, same with the music, it’s just not very engaging on the whole. (MEDIOCRE)

Estonia – Well I’m sure we already know how this is going to turn out. Is it called organized confusion because he refuses to have any sort of meter going on at all. It’s cool that you can rap in a wide variety of rhythms but if you change it up every second it basically ends up sounding like you’re rambling incoherently over a beat. And the beat is boring but that’s no shocker. Yeah this does sound exactly like a mess. Good job. Acknowledging that it’s a mess doesn’t make it any less of a mess. (BAD)

Belize – Uhh, well, this is one of the best tracks on one of my favorite albums ever. (GOOD)

Isle of Man – Pleasant enough sound to this but it’s a bit cheesy and a bit hard to stomach honestly. Music this aggressively peppy and cheery just doesn’t do much for me. I don’t mind listening to it I guess and it’s a little fun but it’s just… not for me. Seems well-written enough though and there’s a decent amount going on in the instrumentation to keep it interesting at the very least. (MEDIOCRE)

this has been a really dire contest thus far in terms of "things i would want to come back to"
like, the two songs out of thirty i've given "good" are the two i already knew beforehand lol

frequently referred to as a kick pedal, and the bass drum is frequently referred to as the kick drum.
i don't know why it's called a kick pedal or kick drum when you don't kick it, but that's just common terminology dude.
