Defense Dep't Papers (Norinel wins)

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Fri Jul 02, 2004 1:00 pm

See http://glpics.com/ralphmerridew/Defense/

3-4 players, plus mod

I may run this on the GL or over chat (chat is preferable, as the challenge mechanism gives all players an opportunity to speak on other player's moves). When signing up, state which ways you're willing to play; if you can play over AIM, add which times you can play (GMT or Central Time, please).

I haven't played this, but I'll estimate a runtime of 1-2 hours over chat.

Code: Select all

FD .1..... .2..... .3.B... .4..... .5..... STD
    .6.C... .7..... .8..... .9.A... 10.D...
    11..... 12..... 13..... 14..... 15.....
    16.E... 17..... 18.H... 19..... 20.FX..
    21..... 22.G... 23..... 24..... 25..... NOR

Order of Play is FD, STD, Norinel.
1. FD: A to 3 (not challenged)
2. STD: Bribe
3. Norinel: H to 19 (not challenged)
4. FD: Bribe
5. STD: Bribe

oooo...interesting...

chat is good...

Ok...everyone keeps saying GL and I have no idea what that is...what is it?

The only times I couldn't play are 2-4 on Mondays and Wednesdays and 2-6 on Tuesdays and Thursdays (all times Central). The exceptions are this monday and tuesday, and then after the 22nd, I won't have that. But I would love to play.

Thylorddragon is my Aim, if you need it.

GL refers to The Grey Labyrinth ( http://greylabyrinth.com/ ). Many of the people here, especially the earliest members, were GLers.

So it's a lot like Sigma File (Which I admittedly only know about because it's also called Conspiracy), but maybe with a different board? Or is this isomorphic to the 5 by 5 grid? (I think it is, but I'm not certain.)

I'd love to play, but preferably not over chat. I think that in the forum is quite possible with 4 active players.

It uses the same rules as Conspiracy / Sigma File, but those names are trademarked.

That's what I'd expected.

One question, though. When assassinating, the 1K is removed only if the assassination succeeds, so the player who's attempting it can still bid up to the full amount they had on that spy, correct?

Right. Rules to Conspiracy are available at http://www.hasbro.com/pl/page.game_and_ ... efault.cfm ; it's a crummy scan, but it has a number of examples and some strategy.

When there's a mod, it'd speed up the challenges to have both players pm (Or equivalent) their maximum bid, and have the mod resolve it. (Call the challenger's max bid X and the challengee's bid Y. If X>Y, say that the challengee didn't cover a bid of Y+100. If X≤Y, say that the challenger stopped bidding after a bid of X was covered.) It theoretically gives the same information as the official way assuming rational bidding, but you may want to say that either person involved can ask for the other way if they want to bid irrationally.

Flying Dutchman wants to play in forum; Norinel, STD, are you willing to play in forum? And is there a fourth?

Are we doing challenges as per the rules or maximum bid style?

We will do challenges maximum bid style unless anybody wishes to do otherwise.

Also:
Communication: You may chat in the thread about game related details, though you may not mention any dollar amounts. You may send "prods" via IM or other mechanisms, but no other game-related information.

STD, challenge or post "n/c"; if he passes or is outbid, Norinel, you do the same.

(Side comment: I'm looking for some "Code Name" sounding terms for the spies; they should begin with different letters of the alphabet. Non-players are welcome to contribute code names, by whatever means.)

n/c

You could go for a phonetic alphabet. (What you often hear military types say on the radio to make the letters sound more distinct) The first one I found starts with Alpha Bravo Charlie Delta Echo Foxtrot Golf Hotel, though the last couple are a bit unspylike.

I considered using one of the phonetic alphabets, but, as you said, some were too unspylike. FWIW, I like the name "Bishop".

yeah, Bishop is cool.

And I think Hotel is a very cool name for a spy.

Maybe you should name some of them animals...Alligator, Goat...etc.
