I actually just wanted to know how receiver error was defined. Very legitimately. If I read something about receiver error, I would like to know how receiver error is defined and "scored" so to speak.

I'l pretty for new metrics and stuff if they make sense and are REALLY EASILY/clearly defined.

Like I understand drops are receiver error, but what else is there? How can you easily say anything else is receiver error than that? If its there then I'm all ears, as I could look for it in games this upcoming season.

You're not in the huddle so assigning blame for (supposed) bad routes to the receiver is illogical and silly. You dont know what play was called, you can't know what play was called.

So if thats part of the measurement of receiver error then blah. You can't definitively pin that on the wr.

it's less about the play call and more about "was the receiver in a position where the QB should have reasonably connected with them?" - I think most of the time it is going to be pinned on the QB, but I do think there are times where it is not the QBs fault but the receiver's, and there's no reason that that can't be factored in

If you use a stat and can't define it explicitly, then its an OPINION. Not a stat. In which case it's irrelevant. If it's based on very measurable and explicit metrics then I would consider it a valid method of evaluating quarterbacks. (and possibly as a byproduct receivers)

Batters sometimes get unlucky. BABIP is usually a pretty fucking good way to determine batters luck.
