1) Assume he's Scum and you're softing an Innocent on you. What does he stand to gain to see you lynched or otherwise undermine the result? He knows you're not a Cop, and as long as you're alive people think he's clear.
2) We're talking about someone who missed that you flipped on your reads earlier. Is it that far outside the realm of possibility he didn't pick up on the softcrumb?
