Is it worth doing the survey if you have absolutely no idea whatsoever what days you can come and aren't reliable to attend? My answers might just be white noise.

^ That's how I felt as well. Just can't give many reliable answers at this stage.

Yeah it's tough, but it's also tough for the organizers to organize without having any idea of what you're thinking.

The main issue is that if say for example, you only have a 10% chance of attending, your responses may not be exactly relevant and if anything it's more helpful to the organizers to plan around those who are likely to show.

Budget would be the only helpful response and even then you don't want to skew the results for those who are going.

I'd rather not submit answers when I have no idea if I can even make this thing.

Yes, please. In hindsight, I should have asked for people's likeliness to attend again in the second survey. Anyway, I'm linking the data from the previous interest survey and this Airbnb one, so please fill that first one out here if you haven't done so yet. If there's something that we can do that would make you more likely to come, then please mention it.

Otherwise, zoraster is correct that we need to know what people are thinking, even if they don't know yet if they can come. If people cannot make the entire week, then that's crucial information because we then look at holding a shorter meet, which significantly lowers costs across the board. If the location is bad for a lot of people, then we can consider moving it. We'll ask again to refine details as time gets closer to the actual meet. This is so we can confirm dates and location for people to make travel plans.

If Northern California people want a very limited carpool, I'm willing to do that but my schedule means I may have to go and come back at a moment's notice. I'm not too dependable of a ride but I am willing if that makes sense. Like last resort kinda deal. Not first.

It'll actually give me an excuse to go. Telling ladyfrog "I'm going to hang out with mafia ppl" is obv not a valid excuse. But if you go then it's a legit reason!

Yeah it kind of depends on how people from out of town are feeling. I'm most likely to show up for a long weekend or something rather than a week long thing, but I understand if people flying in want to spend longer.

The situation we are looking at for order of events is:

1) Figure out what the maximum number of people who will stay in any given night is
2) Find out how many ways we will split a bill in terms of cost per night
3) Find a place that fits cost and budget

This is a realistic headcount, if you don't think you are making it, please don't say you are going to. If we end up booking a 16 person place and only needed a 12 person place, it will end up costing everyone who came more money because people dropped out. If you are confident enough in coming that you are willing to be factored into the budget, fill it out.

You could always ask for a certain amount of money up front and either refund or charge extra depending on how much the housing actually costs. I find that having to pay some money -- even $20 or something -- tends to be clarifying as to people's intentions.

We probably will a little before we make our final move. This is just us trying to ballpark our number a bit better so we can come back and say something like "$50 a night - you said 5 nights. Please confirm this still works" and at that point we can tack on some sort of 20% down payment/cancellation fee/etc

For reference, Meetreal was suppose to have a lot of people but probably half if not less of the people who said they were going to go actually showed. I would advise against booking the airbnb too far in advance.

That's the fear. I think we have at least a reliable 8, but we want to be sure as it looks like more than 10 is enough of a price jump to be a painful hit with a lot of last minute flakes

I'm in LA and I'm debating whether or not I want to drive into Santa Cruz or fly into San Jose and take a uber there... The airfare is pretty reasonable, but the drive from SJ to SC + travel time to/from airport makes driving almost the same.

Anyone thinking of coming in from SoCal? Maybe we can carpool if the dates that we plan on visiting are matching up? PM me if so.

Based on the responses, we have about ten people planning to stay in the Airbnb. I will keep the survey open in case people have a better idea of where they will be in the summer, but we may end up planning for a smaller meet and then deciding later what to do with overflow.

The chance of my being in SF for residency is now fairly high. It's not locked in for a few more months, though.

Whether I have days off in that time-window is a separate question, but.

Nice!!!!! how do you know? I know the match list deadline was wednesday, but isn't match day march 17th? or is it different because of your joint program?

It's the same, but the program reached out and told me that I was in their top X students, where X is the number of slots available, so I could only end up elsewhere if they change their mind or they misrepresented my ranking in the previous interaction.

No, the Sacramento program is Davis.

Ya, psych.
