TF's have been fairly decent about pushing back against that, see "Except when he does". Now I agree we're never going to be perfect but it's not exactly broke either.

You must not imagine that for beings like you and us there can be laughter. The low men laugh, and we envy them. But for us, the higher ones, there is no laughter, only an unending vigil, purely serious, stretching on into the night.

Yeah, and the people who nommed it are all people I'm friends with. It's not a "gift from MS". It's a badge of "I have 5 friends" which is not really the point of the system.

along with the standards that a given title nom has to reach and how demonstrably untrue it is that having five friends are necessary to get a title, having five friends on the site willing go through the trouble of getting a good title instituted for you is kind of a lot, too

This is patently and demonstrably false. This site is basically a cesspool of people that hate each other.

If by "friend" you mean "people that like you" (I don't really count you online only guys as my "friends" sry) then sure, you arguably do need five people who like you to get a title, but let's face it, it's incredibly difficult to be an active member for more than a couple of months and not have five people who like you. It's not like it's a difficult social barrier to reach - even shotty managed it.

Therefore, the 5 nths serve as a process to make sure the title itself is good for the person. 5 people does not a popularity contest make.

There
might be
five people that like me on this site. :( I find most people are generally indifferent towards me.
