I'll be honest. I have no idea what I'm doing. I won't min3 max the roles right without blind luck. I'm just putting my name there since I'm not scum.

Why do we need to increase the odds of the best roles until D3? Like.. let's take cop for instance. The earlier someone gets that, the higher chance they hit scum. More time to look for them and clear others.

So explain to me why we need to wait? Scum have more cash by default. Town waste theirs on bad roles early, which means scum can spend all theirs late on the best roles.

So what exactly is good for town in the 'wait til D3' scenerio?

Odd to me that everyone is largely null so far, normally I can at least make a leap somewhere. I do agree with Desperado's sentiment on Elena but that's it thus far. I hope the game picks up more tomorrow.

On page 3? Its gonna take a lot more activity than this to get solid reads on anyone. Everything is pure gut reads atm, which are at best 50-50 on even someone's most psychic day.

I feel like either I spend everything on a subpar role just to make sure I'm not vanilla all game, or I wait for the best ones and hope scum don't outbid me with their extra cash.

I really don't know what to do. Tracker is a worthwhile role for someone, but I'm not going for it. Even if I was, i couldn't say that or I'd be auto NK'd, but I feel like the other roles are filler for town to waste their money on. When the best roles pop up later, scum will get them by default then. $300 more cash means they can get any role they want as long as they wait.

Like I'm not seeing a solution here that makes sense. Town will by default be stuck with the bad roles, because even spending $500 on day.. cop or dayvig... scum can spend $501 without a problem as long as there's no market detective in play yet. Even those probably go to scum too.

So I'm wondering what the solution even is. It's best to keep prices as low as possible, but scum will always get the best roles no matter what we do.

agreed, redcoyote and abr are the two im prioritizing. but rvs ended quickly and those three pages are almost all game relevant so downplaying them is the wrong move

I think you misunderstand. I was literally signing off for the night when I saw the game-start PM. It's not that I didn't have thoughts, it's that I wasn't going spend an hour drafting up a post instead of sleeping, so I popped in merely to announce my intention of getting myself elected governor and went to bed.

Okay, first of all, the structure of this game heavily dis-incentivizes the mafia from bussing each other because losing a member means losing a third of their purchasing power. At the same time, if it looks like a member of the mafia is going down, they will have no reason not to dump all of their cash at the last minute to steal as many powers as possible.

At the same time, any town-mislynch is not only fundamentally money wasted, but their bids will still count for that day and if they win, the role is lost. This means that optimal play for the scumteam is to try to nudge mislynches in the direction of people who they think are going to win an auction.

Further, if I understand the rules correctly, with 4 roles per day for 4 days drawn from the pool of 20, almost all of the roles are going to come up for auction eventually, so the purpose of the Market Owner is more to guide the

order

that roles will appear than anything else. This actually isn't as important as I initially thought it was, and I didn't realize that it was an optional function. In that context, I don't expect the mafia to make a strong push to get their hands on the position. It's mostly just as good for them to let the role fall by the wayside than anything else.

There's certainly more nuance to consider here by factoring how the dwindling player count will affect the flow of cash, but I haven't full hashed that out in my brain yet.

I personally still want to be Market Owner, but I'm already getting sick of talking mechanics and I want to get to scumhunting, so I'm going to backburner that for now.
