Spring Fever (Endgame)

Game rules:

1) All decisions come down to a democracy. The moderator gets 17 votes.
2) Please use vote tags to place your votes. Bold tags will also be accepted but are not preferred.
3) Lynches will occur when one player has received the majority of votes. You may post during the twilight period between the hammer and the closing of the thread.
4) If unsufficient votes are made on any player, or a majority of votes have been made to no lynch, no lynch will be made.
5) Nights will last 48 hours.
6) Do NOT quote any private communication from me, nor any mason, scum, neighbour, or anything topics that may or may not exist. You may paraphrase, just don't copy it wholesale.
7) You MAY NOT discuss the game outside of the thread unless your role specifically gives you the ability to do so.
8) Days will last 2 weeks, or until a lynch (or no lynch) has been decided on.
9) Blue is my color. Refrain from using it.
10) Inform the mod before going V/LA. I will prod you after 48 hours of inactivity, and will only be giving one prod per day phase + one additional through the whole game before force replacing.
11) In the tragic event I drop off the face of the earth, UpTooLate will take my place.
12) Death is final, 'bah' posting will not be allowed in this game.
13) The rules can be arbitrarily changed/added to by one party (me) anytime I am feeling greedy and/or evil.
14) Players may use factional and individual actions simultaneously unless their role PM explicitly says otherwise.
15) This setup is non-bastard.
16) Be nice, and try to enjoy yourself.
17) Prod rules will be extremely strict. If you are going V/LA either inform me or put up V/LA flags. I will be very quick to replace for inactivity.
18) Weekend V/LA players may substitute their additional prod to have 72 hour prod timers over the weekend.
19) This setup will be reviewed by UpTooLate and others.
20) This game will be run with a maximum of two hydrae.

1) The setup is confirmed as having 12 Town-Aligned players and 4 Scum-aligned players.
2) Alignments were randomized independent on picks. Flavour is not alignment indicative.
3) Only one pick is required but you can send three to make my life easier if you want.
4) From the day the game fills you have 2 days to send in a pick. Failure to do so and I will pick for you.
5) The game will be non-bastard and role madness.
6) Daytalk is enabled for all.

Game Mechanics:

It's spring and love and friendship abound!
During the day each player may submit a Bond to the moderator which can be changed until the end of the day.
If two players submit a Bond on each other they will become Bonded and become neighbourized.
During the first half of each night, members of the bond must choose to be the

active

or

passive

member of the bond.
The active member of a bond will have their abilities enhanced in return for the passive member losing their actions. Passive members will still be able to perform factional actions.
If there is no agreement then both players will lose night actions and the Bond will break. Bonds can also be willingly broken during the day by submitting another Bond, but will not break until the end of the day.
As a result of this mechanic no day will last shorter than 48 hours. If there is a hammer before then, there will be an extended twilight.
Nights will be divided into two halves at approximately the 24 hour remaining point, at which time requests to be active or passive or any abilities that trigger in the first half must be in.

Peridot (specifically Peridot Facet-2F5L Cut-5XG) is a member of the Crystal Gems who made her debut in "Warp Tour". She was originally a Homeworld Gem technician and a certified Kindergartner. Peridot has lime-green skin and pale yellow-green hair styled into a tetrahedron shape. In all of her appearances to date, she wears a sleeveless green V-neck uniform. From her first appearance in "Warp Tour", Peridot wore limb enhancers, which have been disposed of as of "Catch and Release". Peridot has been shown to be incredibly stubborn, as it takes several attempts from the Crystal Gems for Peridot to discuss even the Cluster. Peridot is extremely self-absorbed, which leads her to underestimate the Gems continually. Peridot is extremely proficient with Gem technology; being a "certified Kindergartner", she can operate a Kindergarten and has enough experience to pilot a Gem Warship, and in "Jail Break" Peridot is seen briefly interfacing with her ship's controls.

As she is her only friend in her new surroundings, Peridot starts the game bonded to Aelita, whom you know is Navy in flavour. Peridot is egoistical and self obsessed and as a result is unable to take the passive role in a Bond. Using her fusion powers as a gem, if a player attempts to break a bond with you after being a passive member you may fuse with them, locking them in as your passive partner and preventing them from changing. While the active member of a Bond, you may bubble one player per night. After night actions are completed, they will be added to your Bond topic and be removed from the day phase. You may choose to break this Bond at any time before the end of the next night, when it breaks automatically, but you may re-bubble the same person.

Having watched too much Yuri Yuri, rather than fleeing the bullies he stood his ground. The biggest bully of the pack puffs out his chest and demands his lunch money, but Alisae will not stand for this. He attempts to activate ANTI-BULLY RANGER and jumps on the biggest bully of the back, wailing punch after punch onto the bully's face. Unfortunately, anti-bully ranger mode doesn't work and he is outnumbered five to one and the biggest bully throws him off and the rest of the bullies surround him. Alisae's lunch money is immediately taken from him and he departs the game in shame, unable to face the big meanies that had bullied him.

She wailed helplessly in midair as she fell only to land on the ground with a sickening thud. She tries to recollect herself but the creatures have followed her and with several sickening splatters their broken bodies heap onto the ground around her and begin to stitch themselves together. Crawling away she is unable to escape into the tunnels before the creatures have repaired their mangled bodies and bound towards her in haste. I am unable to speak of the horror that is to follow....

On the first day of the first Act, an encounter with a rabid Owlbear left both the young paladin Aylin and the animal companion Growlithe in pieces. This parting led to another meeting in the form of the new animal companion Houndoor. A riding dog, he was trained to wear barding and has some of the best stats of all of the level 1 animal companions. Coel, Cynbel's companion from the previous campaign, even lived all the way to endgame, unlike poor Sven and Adileh. Rip . May he serve his druid master faithfully and may you guys not get TPKed in act 2 like we did.

Using his Alertness feat, he is able to determine each night whether or not he was targeted by any other players. At night, he is able to track one player and determine who they targeted. While the active member in a Bond, he may instead use improved scent to determine whose scents he smells on one player, learning the names of all the players that targeted them.

Randomidget was promoted to head of Customer Relations. His subordinate, Alisae, recently received a significant salary increase when we were served legal papers for not paying them minimum wage as a minor. McMenno has also done work for the group but has not contributed a great deal.

The CFO had taken Heartless as his new secretary and they had done good work. The CFO has been told by several board members that it makes them extremely uncomfortable when he talks in third person but as the CFO he really doesn't give a damn. Heartless has since been fired for skateboarding in the building and donating company money to animal rights organizations.

Heartless's clerical job is shared between myself and Bellaphant. Note that there was some confusion in the company records regarding whether Bellaphant worked for Heartless or vice versa: as of when she gets back this discrepancy should be promptly remedied. Aelita has handed back a very positive review of McMenno with one question mark: the man signs his time sheets with several different names. The Elemental Trinity scumteam won the game but I wouldn't say it was entirely good play on their behalfs. You had some really, really shitty town play there: no offense but your own giving the vote to Narna was really dumb. PeregrineV was basically a gigantic lurksack but luckily his slot got carried by Wisdom's replace in. TiphaineDeath's idea was interesting but they played it wrong and would probably have gotten lynched if you and Maria weren't playing really bad. NBA just like lol but they got guiltied so it wasn't even their fault. Luckily, Wisdom and Narna played quite well and they rung up the game for scum.

Each of the scum had their roles to play in the victory. During the day you may channel one of 3 players. You can yell NO BULLYING ALLOWED at someone in thread and they will receive a mod warning not to be such a bully. You may claim to have gotten a jailkeeper guilty on a player as well, gladiating them and forcing the lynch between the two of you. You can also channel the spirit of Momo's amazing play by requesting a Momo privately in which case all living players in game will automatically have their votes transferred to you. While you are the active member of a Bond you may also use two different abilities at night. You may pocket the shit out of MariaR and wield her vote as a doublevote.

Ruby, nicknamed Navy by Steven, is a Homeworld Gem who made her debut in "Hit the Diamond". Her gemstone is where the navel of a human would be, hence her name. She is part of the Ruby troops sent by Yellow Diamond and appears to be way more gleeful and sensual than the other Rubies of the troop. She is soft-spoken, amused by the Earth's details, expresses constant satisfaction, and dramatic in her mannerisms. She is also very flustered. When put on the spot she can get nervous to the point of nearly breaking down into tears. In "Room for Ruby", Navy tricks the Crystal Gems by exaggerating her usual innocent personality. Once the Crystal Gems do not see her as a threat, lower their guard and take her in, Navy steals the Roaming Eye ship. When Steven points out that she could have simply stolen the ship in the first place, Navy gleefully replies that she wanted to see the look on Steven's face when she betrayed him.

As she is your only friend in unfamiliar territory, you will start the game bonded with Peridot. You love betraying people, especially your scumpartners, and if you are involved in betraying one of your scumpartners by lynching them, you may hurtle them into the ocean instead of lynching them. They will be dead for most intents and purposes but still able to communicate with the scumteam. In order to become a Huntress, Ruby trained at Signal Academy, where her skills and abilities far surpassed her peers. Wielding a dangerous weapon like Crescent Rose required strength, balance, and adaptability. This led Ozpin to accept her into Beacon Academy two years before the usual age of admittance. Ruby is a self admitted dork when it comes to weapons, which shows in her complex design and craftsmanship of Crescent Rose, her High-Caliber Sniper-Scythe which she designed herself at Signal. She leads Team RWBY until it disbands after the fall of Beacon, after which she creates the new, informal team RNJR with other fighters.

She fights alongside her friend Jaune Arc with whom she shares an unbreakable Bond. As the team leader, she optimizes the active and passive side of the bond such that when she is disabled she will always be passive, but when she is enabled she will always be active. She is an impulsive fighter and must always act when she is enabled. Jaune is a tall teenage boy with dark-blue eyes that are emphasized by his short blonde hair messily layered on his head with the right side of his hair nearing his right eye and the left side swept back. He is quite toned, having strong muscles in his arms, shoulders and upper chest. Jaune is not exactly the most suave individual in Beacon Academy, though he does try to portray himself as such. He is a kindhearted, amiable person and means well, as shown when he helps Ruby stand up after her initial confrontation with Weiss. When asked why, he simply notes that it seemed like a good opportunity to make a new friend. During his fights, despite taking several highly-damaging attacks, Jaune keeps pressing on his opponents, refusing to let their assault intimidate him. This trait persists even during conversations with others, as Jaune never contradicts himself and, while sometimes harsh, is always honest with answers.

Jaune is a fellow member of team RNJR and is permanently Bonded to Ruby Rose. This cannot be broken by any means. While you are the active partner in a Bond, you may use Crocea Mors to protect a player at night. Your closeness to Ruby allows her to use your maneuvers as an opportunity to set up her own, and she will be activated if you succeed in a night action. If you choose to protect Ruby Rose, rather than simply protecting her you will defend her life with your own, killing both yourself and the player that attempted to kill her. This will still enable her night action.

After some unknown catastrophe wiped out humans, and possibly most land-dwelling life on Earth, squids (and some other marine invertebrates) evolved to become the dominant species on the planet. During this "Mollusk era" they developed culture, language, and especially warfare. The humanoid form has a black marking resembling a mask around their eyes, pointed ears, and tentacles that change color in battle depending on the color of ink that their team uses. They possess pointed teeth similar in shape to a squid's beak. Their squid form resembles a brightly-colored cephalopod the same color as the Inkling's "hair" with two long clubbed tentacles, four shorter tentacles, and two large eyes that seem to be joined. In humanoid form, Inklings can splatter a special type of colored ink by using various weapons, such as a gun that resembles a Super Soaker.

When you are voting someone who does not end up getting lynched that day, you will spray them with Ink. Outside of a bond, you may hide in Squid Form near an inked player and determine whether or not they acted or were acted on that night. This game sort of had to be swingy.
The variance between having town active / scum passive in bonds vs town passive / scum active in bonds is massive.
On top of that scum were intentionally given some very strong investigative roles so it wouldn't be difficult to convince town to go passive if they somewhat townread you.

It's notable that scum did not have a roleblocker except potentially one mass roleblock besides for Yume's role: but even that was meant to be deceptive because it triggers at the middle of the night rather than end of night, which could easily be setup specced as being a normal role rather than an active role and start a goose chase.

I designed the game to make it as easy as possible for scum to get townread and dominate the night actions and quickly figure out which slots do what and make the correct nightkills and shut down town's night actions without actually giving them a lot of hard power. On the flipside, if scum are generally scumread on their play they're not going to be doing anything and that will make it very hard for them. The way the game played out, Shiqf died instantly, Dunnstral was leashed, Aelita wasn't allowed to use her ability, and EddieByte never went active. So I'm sure the endgame felt incredibly oppressive and it was considering Random/Alisae's role pms were intentionally written to get them to TR each other and Firebringer's note was meant to clear them both and bringing them both to endgame was horribly dangerous but I don't think that was due to game balance as much as it was due to scum failing the acid test of getting townread and never really having the chance to eliminate the masons.

Both breaking strategies were foreseen from the outset but given the gap between properly utilizing them and not using any of them I think it was perfectly fair to have town have several super powerful combinations if they trust all the pieces in the puzzle: and both were breakable. Alisae being shot disabled Random, Transcend has to be kept alive to cash in on Titus's checks or it has to rely on a scum reporting the results. There was also one other profoundly powerful breaking strategy but it was based off of correct interpretation of Firebringer's results which were intentionally impossible to decipher at a level that you would plan around that.

I felt town played very well and were rewarded for it in terms of night actions and that's how the game should have gone, even if their reads weren't perfect.

I think a best new mechanic nomination might be in order.

It innovated the way mafia was played in a positive way. All the power roles were heavily influenced by the hoods created at night. Hoods in general are always fun to have. In this game, they were almost MANDATORY. Which provided a lot more one on one interactions.
