I don't really have a grand argument to make or anything and I'm not singling out Creature. I also don't know if there has already been a discussion about this or not. I just don't think players should get a say in whether or not a mafia pt gets released. If you don't want someone reading your words because it's negative or you think it will help others read you or whatever reason just don't say it.In post 8337, Creature wrote:Mafia PT (releasing upon all members approvalor after 0 days, 9 hours, 27 minutes)

mafia pt released on endgame
Of all tyrannies,a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I decided to post "haha just don't post that in the main thread", but to get up to date on the main thread first.

When I mod games, I generally put in the private thread that it will be released at the end of the game. Players should be able to see what kind of communication was going on behind the scenes like that."Let it be known that almost everything Boonskiies said is either hilarious or annoying." - Shinobi
Yes, I'mFlavor Leaf. That's my main; I just mod onBoonskiies.-

I think I may have seen one time in these nearly 3 years where someone actually asked for a redaction in the scum PT, and I don't remember what the reason was for (I feel like it was for personal reasons between them and a Townie).
Scum PT's on a whole tend to be disappointing when I read them, so I'd say people are already doing a good enough job of filtering themselves without needing redactions.-

Seems like the consensus from the other thread is that PTs shouldn't be released because the scum might've said mean things behind someone's back.
That argument is trash. You're basically being a dick behind someone's back and expecting the mod to cover it up for you. There are plenty of nice ways to call someone's play or a part of someone's play bad.
In my opinion all PTs should be auto-released, don't even give the mod a choice to keep them private. I can see an exception being made for potentially private stuff being posted in a PT, but honestly, if you want it to be private use a PM, not a PT.Want to help with site development? PM Kison

Personal stuff could come up that was triggered by something that went on in the game though, in which case discussing it by PM would be against the rules. In post 15, ConnorJC wrote:In my opinion all PTs should be auto-released, don't even give the mod a choice to keep them private. Honestly, the odds of this happening are fairly low in my opinion, but what do I know.In post 17, Postie wrote:Personal stuff could come up that was triggered by something that went on in the game though, in which case discussing it by PM would be against the rules.

The one thing that bothers me about this discussion is the elephant in the room: what if mafia members have a strategy that they would want to talk about, or an observation, that could possibly hurt relationships/offend people if it was released immediately? I feel like in this situation it would be best to at least allow them to redact stuff.
For example, a lesser scale one would be scum members saying that a town member never reads them correctly and has low intelligence. Sure, you shoulden't be saying this in theory (be nice, etc), but there's not really a way of doing this that would be tactful to said person, and it's possible they could be friends, etc.
In a perfect world, people would be completely honest with each other, and even moreso in an internet game, but I think that some practical realities have to be faced that some people aren't friends or friendly to the brute honesty degree; some are on a shallower level but no less important to having site fluidity and morale, to the extent that they may not be prepared to say to someone's face that they suck.
Just some rambling thoughts.-

Replaced the striked out comment with any of:
"is easily fooled"
"is easily buddied"
"never has strong cases"
"is usually lynchbait"
"is just generally bad at mafia"
You can easily phrase any character flaws as mafia-related flaws and it then becomes a critique of their mafia abilities and not a personal attack or insult.-

It still has the same meaning.
Would YOU want to be told you are easily fooled from someone you generally get along with? I know we would all like to say to ourselves that we don't care about our public perception, but that's generally not true.
And even if not true, woulden't some people want to hesitate before saying that to someone? The point here isn't if they are being offense; it's if mafia scum performance will deterioriate, even slightly, if people are afraid to say something that they know might ruin a relationship, in whatever terms and interpretations of this that they value to themselves.-

Just don't be a dick about it
If it's someone I get along with and I know they're trying to beat me at the game, then I'll know their comment on my play is a genuine opinion and not an attempt to hurt me. My point is that you can phrase things in ways that won't ruin the relationship, and if somehow someone is the type who gets upset and lets their relationship be ruined because someone recognized and exploited their weaknesses as scum, then this isn't the game for them.In post 22, Mulch wrote:It still has the same meaning.
