The Patriots will be fine...people just like to pretend that Alex Smith isn't a good quarterback, and so when he does good things it is obviously the fault of the other team.
alex smith is pretty good on very odd days, and when he gets in a certain headspace, you can't really stop him. he's a very good quarterback but he's not very consistent.
I wouldn't say all, but a huge part of it for sure.
He took a mediocre QB (McNabb) and made him a contender. If only he'd spent the majority of his time on a QB with real talent. Smith is waayyyyy better than McNabb was on his best days.

I'm fine. Not a great start to the season but nothing that can't be fixed. The big issue that swung the game was Hightower getting hurt which left Cassius Marsh playing after being a Patriot for like 5 days, and the Chiefs picked on him relentlessly. The Amendola injury hurt too, considering the Pats only had 4 healthy WR going into the game after Malcolm Mitchell went on IR, one of which also was a short term player (Phil Dorsett, acquired at the same time as Marsh). The Chiefs played really well, too (especially Eric Berry, who changed the game with that 4th down stop and was excellent until he left hurt). They really played physical coverage, and while they were penalized a lot for it, there were a number of instances where they managed to get away with it. Very effective, but I don't think it's a reliable strategy just for the risk of penalties. Brady had a mediocre game, but his first game back after the suspension last season was slow, too, and the issues with the receiving corps certainly contributed. Belichick gets a long week to get the newbies up to speed and maybe shuffle the roster to get players in to fill in the gaps, so I'll be reserving panic until after next week against the Saints.
Chloroform girl, how have you been?
Don't let me catch you sleeping again
You're only alive because I like you
It's been three years since you've seen the sunlight
But I know you're having fun
Bound, gagged and chained up in my basement
I don't think the Pats have anything to worry about as far as making the playoffs, but I'm not sure about Brady being the guy to lead the pats to many more super bowls, although Brady's play style lends him to playing a longer careeer, the NFL is just to good for 40+ year olds to be that consistantly great imho. But I think Brady is the best of all time and don't think he has anything to hang his head about. I just think the Patriots need to focus on finding a quartback of the future.
