Just spoke to mods about previous post, its fine because its just publicly available stuff about the game, but please if anyone wants to continue talking about RCs game in the context of this thread, please do not mention specifics like how players are doing with those rules or what their post counts are.
I think 10 per real day is a completely reasonable limit.
Honestly, with a self selected player list it could just be fine say to try to have <10 posts per day but if you really really need a few more to deal with something (e.g. Zito's wagon thing) then its okay.
Yeah, I agree. If we take it as read that everyone who is signing up for this game is doing so in good faith, just like "Don't post too much, too much is generally no more than 10 posts per real life day" is enough.
If someone is signing up for the game not in good faith, thats an issue for the list mods to deal with, not us.
Whats crazy to me is that this is the line we are discussing. 10 posts in a real life day used to be considered spamming the thread when I first started playing.
I think 10/real day is more than enough with the bank of 20 overs.
When I ran a day one with a similar post restriction mechanic (Abarat II), a few people infracted right away because they weren't used to paying attention. But by the end only the serial offenders were doing it. And that was with penalites happening north of 5/day. 10/day is already ludicrous headroom - I think in my setup 10 posts in one day meant instant death and ending the day.

Early game is short on information, more interactions help kickstart the game, a chance to goof off a bit before the harsher limit kicks in, that kinda thing
10 is actually a lot if everyone does goes near the limit everyday. Good reason to lower would be if its not sufficient to achieve the desired effect.
I feel like a nice way to do it is just for people to see how they feel as the game goes on and move around the reccomended posting amount accordingly? (e.g. I feel this is still going a bit fast for me guys maybe reccing 5 a day would be better?)
Obviously contingent on believeing that people won't abuse being able to discuss this for alignement related reasons.

hito, what penalties were you using? Was it only instadeath?
My rules were - over five a day puts a permanent vote on you, over seven roleblocks your active ability (but not kill), over nine is death. But I only took such severe stances because this was only for day one of my game - I was attempting to stop the huge D1 bloat that makes these games impossible to find replacements for. Plus I had a concern to make the post restriction feel thematic, which you aren't bound by. I think all you REALLY need is some sort of small consequence so people get feedback that they've gone over, and so having posts per day plus a small bank of overs is great. Losing posts from your bank is the perfect mashup of being a permanent consequence you instantly notice and feel bad about, while not compromising game integrity one whiff.

Yeah I think if I had to do the rules by gut feel, it would be something like:
10 posts/day for the first two rl days of a day phase
5 posts/day thereafter
Unrestricted if the deadline is <24 hours
Bank of 15 posts to go over with
If someone exhausts their bank, they are considered to be the lynch for that day phase. (This means your setup has to guarantee no mechanics that rely on a well-defined "hammerer", but I think small price to pay)

Papa Zito wrote:That all seems reasonable, it's just a headache for a moderator to keep track of.
If you use my system of "replenishment votecounts", where "per day" isn't actually per 24 hours but instead "per these special votecounts I'll post AROUND the same time every day", it streamlines things a lot. You need to skim posts looking for votes anyway, so you just keep up the tallies as you do so. It didn't add too much burden to my VCs (although my VCs are already high-maintenance, giving me something of a tolerance for this).

I find this funny as someone who was considered a spammer in the old days, can't keep up now, and was a 100 percent phone poster from 2011 to this past July.

This is the first draft of a guideline I'm thinking of appending.
Don't push the pace when it doesn't need to be pushed.
If you don't let off the gas, you'll drive the game off the cliff.
Don't forget: you're always speaking to everyone.
Every personal conflict you resolve is observed by a chorus of silent judgment, each waiting for their turn to let it out.
Let them let it out.
Give people room to speak, and you'll get so much more out of them than if you strangle each other with words.
Make your point.
You're trying to get your message in the mix. It doesn't have to be an illegible wallpost - cutting, editing and formatting go a long way. Practice them.
The point is something like - don't say something just because you can. Keep some cards to your vest. Think your engagements over with a strategic mind.
