In post 658, Radical Rat wrote:We see Vax blindly defending Fire.
But so was I, and for similar reasons at that.

However, it is not possible for me to be Fire's partner, so that means at least my unease about lynching him was Town-motivated.
Also, notice how I remained open to the possibility of lynching Fire, while Vax just immediately shut it down.
Rat is scum, and this post is why. He's taking something that both he and Vax did, and then trying to suggest that a small difference in their approach is why he's town and therefore Fire is scum by POE. But he's sneakily burying his argument in rhetoric/sophistry and not actually justifying it at all - the implied point is that Fire is scum because Vax immediately shut down the idea of lynching Fire whereas Rat was open to the idea.

The questions one would have for this argument are:
1) Why does Vax shutting down the idea of lynching Fire mean that Vax and Fire are buddies?
2) Why does Rat remaining open to the idea of lynching Fire mean that Rat and Vax cannot be buddies?
3) Why is Fire scum, independently of anything that Vax or Rat have posted in the game?

There's no evidence that Rat actually has answers to any of these questions, and he makes no effort to address them. RR is a smarter guy than to normally make arguments that are this weakly justified. The entire thing basically just hinges on his "it's not possible for me to be Fire's partner, which means I'm town"
In post 658, Radical Rat wrote:here's also this bit. At the time, I didn't really think twice about it, but knowing that Vax flipped scum, it makes sense that he'd say no one on his side was playing, when Firebringer hadn't actually posted at all for the round yet. And was the Only one not to post.
and this is just semantics

No, the small difference is in addition to the fact that it is mechanically impossible for me to be scum with Firebringer.
It is KNOWN that Vax was scum, and that means there was scum motivation to defend Fire.

Either Vax and I are scum trying to buddy Fire, or Vax was defending his scumbuddy.

I know I'm not scum, so the first option is impossible.
But EVEN IF it were possible, there's one glaring flaw here.

We lynched assembler.
If Fire were Town it wouldn't matter how much we defended him before, because I would be confscum to him, just as he is confscum to me now.
We would have needed to lynch Fire and put him in assembler's position.
Maybe the real Mafia was the friends we made along the way

Of course he doesn’t know.
He made a busy post to look like he was doing something. Fucked up scum slipped. Then admits his mistake sarcastically.
At the stage of the game it’s acceptable for him to self vote.

Irrelevant.
If the goal were to buddy up to Firebringer and gain his trust, lynching assembler renders it all useless.
It just doesn't make sense for scum here.

Exactly. That’s why it’s a scum slip.
It’s the smallest things your subconscious mind does out of guilt.

But it wasn't even subconscious.

It's kinda the whole point of my argument?
If I were scum, Fire would know with 100% certainty, just like how right now I know with 100% certainty that he's scum because I'm not.

So defending him earlier would be a waste of time and effort that could have been used to just shove a lynch through.

You can’t say what is and isn’t subconscious.
It just is.
What you can do is try to discredit it but that just proves the point. You are trying to distance yourself as far away from that idea as possible.

You know who distances?

Scum
