Well something to keep in mind, HST who wasn't overly town read was killed over 2 Masons.
Like unless scum are so far ahead they read the "I won't die which sucks" message and killed him straight up for the fun of it thinking they can't lose anyway.

There is alot of reasons for that. It's all wifom depending on who the scum are and can be painted to suit anyone's agenda. For example I could make the argument that they didn't kill the masons because the masons are doing the scum a favor and lynching town so why get rid of them? Or maybe they would rather hunt power roles rather than two masons who are no threat to them at night while they have such a commanding lead.

You can. Any skilled player can make any argument. Hell I could make the point HST had the scumteam nailed. HST was a nullkill.HST was believed a infinite shot informed townie who knew all the scums.

What matters is the reality. The proper kill was to shoot a mason. The longer the masons remain alive the harder it becomes for a mislynch. The question is indeed why. But until we get a red flip that why is supposition.
