That's a complete myth of day 1. There is no reason for the "random vote stage" to take place at all. Once any sort of useful discussion happens, it's done. It doesn't matter whether that's before any "random" votes are placed or after everyone has "random voted" multiple times.

Some lurkers are scum and some lurkers are town.

From the games I have played recently, I have seen a trend where people are giving lurkers a free pass. Some scum have picked up on this and use it to their advantage and don't post for several days as to not draw attention to themselves while the town fight over the scumminess of a fellow townie.

I also know that some lurkers are busy in other games and are not really lurking at all. They are just failing to contribute in an already stalling game because they are more committed to their active game(s).

Also, some townies 'lurk' as to not draw attention to themselves to avoid getting mislynched just because they are active. Some idiots, I won't point out any names, JDodge, mistake activity as scumminess. Feel free to meta the games I have been a part of and see how many times I have been mislynched because I was active while the scum lurked and enjoyed the show.

Let me run a hypothetical scenario past you, Sly. Player A gives his opinion on a matter. Player B attacks this opinion. Something happens and a few days go by without Player A's response, and the game stalls as a result. Enter Player C. Player C shares Player A's opinion. Player C now has two choices. He can comment his idea of Player A's opinion, and be looked upon by Player B as scummy for defending Player A, or Player C can do nothing, let the game stall, and be called out for lurking.

In the above scenario, what do you believe Player C should do?

What Player C 'should' do is not for me to determine, but there are many options that Player C could do. It would really depend on the situation and there are too many variable for one blanket answer.

1. Player C could go overboard with his agreeing with Player A running the risk of appearing to defend Player A.
2. Player C could lightly share his opinion that what Player A had stated was an opinion that he shared with Player A while pointing out other actions of Player C that were definitely scummy.
3. Player C could do nothing and theoretically let the game stall.
4. Player C could comment on something else.

There are still

other options Player C could do, but these are the obvious ones that came to my mind immediately. Player C is in no way obligated to comment on every post in the game.

Now, lay something out for me, UA. Please share with the rest of us the time(s) where you think that it is pro-town to misquote another player.

1) "Some things you don't say in public for fear of death". You are an idiot if you, as town, are holding back your opinions so that you can survive. Town's job is to find scum, and if you're holding back your opinions to stay alive you're of no use to the town at all.

To answer your question, Sly, There probably aren't any protwon reasons for misquoting. That doesn't always put it in the anti-town column, however. Misquoting, and then using that misquote as a basis for voting/lynching is very very anti-town. Otherwise, its...not really anything.
